Duke Bussiness

The realm is getting busier as the days go by, and just one silly rabbit king is not enough to keep things pretty and orderly. Sepona is looking for two dukes to help him run the Somnum realm from now on.

The responsibilities of a duke are:
- First of all, writing stuff. Sepona is terribly bad at writing and is seriously ashamed of every single sentence he writes. A duke should be able to write nice introductions to events, explanations, puzzles and instructions.
- Second, a duke should be able to tend to the dreamers’ needs. This includes solving doubts, being active in both the thread and guild, keeping the thread active and peaceful and spreading love in Somnum.
- And last but not least, manage all kinds of stuff, from trading to checking journals and activity.

What I’m looking for in a duke is:
- A high sense of responsibility.
- Time to help run things.
- Eagerness and enthusiasm.
- Honesty and professionalism.
- Friendliness and empathy.
- All of that sweet sweet stuff a nice person and a leader should have.
- Love for the shop. For this particular reason, only people who have been active in the shop for 2+ months can apply!

- The deadline is 01.15.14th

Things you should have in mind:
- Both Anidara and Sepona will remain the main mods, but we (specially Sepona) need lots of help.
- We will be giving our two new dukes 20% of all sales. Meaning that if, for example, we manage to win 500K, each duke will be getting 100K.
- We’re only hiring two and only two people.
- We prefer applicants to be owners, please!
- We might add some more rules later.
- We’re expecting Sepona and the new two dukes to hold meetings once in a while.

I wish to thank Sem for giving me a useful reference.
This was heavily referenced by Eidolon's post on hiring.

What is your username?
    TheLimeTree

What do you like to be called?
    Lime, to avoid confusion.

Do you love Somnum? Why?
I do, I love the concept most of all. It’s mystical, it’s interesting and it allows for a very diverse group of characters. There’s nothing stopping you from having a character based on a myth, folklore or even a phenomena. I like the diversity, I also like the progression and am interested to see where it goes.

Why would you like to keep Somnum alive and kicking?
It has amazing potential with the right motivation. The plot’s there, the artwork is adorable and the community it’s drawing is awesome. Overall it’s a nice niche that honestly needs a little corner in the B/C. I have a quest myself of course and working with you over Skype has really opened my eyes to how much creativity can be let loose with the concepts.

Are you currently employed in any other B/C shops? Which ones? What is your role?
    Noooope.

What has been your experience in the B/C?
I co-owned and did old horrendous art for Intervalic Underpass Junction [x]
    I also owned Feardoc’s Symphony [x]

What can you offer Somnum? How would you make it a better shop?
I’m a team player, I promote communication and motivate people for a living. This is a softer representation. I know that for myself B/C provides a creative outlet for the characters in my head and I want to facilitate that safe space for other people. I’m organized and run on an efficient timeline. I appreciate a faster pace than most and I am always looking for something new to incorporate. I love working with a huge variety of people, as a social person myself, and want to befriend evverryyyyoneeee [it’s a problem actually].

Are you good at teamworking?
Yes I am. Huge believer in the battle buddy system and am not afraid to trust teammates so long as they trust me. A mutually trusting group is the best type of group. They are motivated sheerly by not wanting to let anyone else down, and I never want to let anyone down. Positive experiences for all.

Show me some good writing skills aw yeah!

Anything you might want to add?
I am in EST, PM me for contact information. Totally game with shop meetings via skype or phone.

What do you like to be called?
    Snoof!

Do you love Somnum? Why?
Oh my god I really do. Everything is so cute and creative, it has so much potential. There's a lot of stuff to discover and I really enjoy the atmosphere of the world you've built up even if a great deal of it is still a mystery! Even in a cutesy sense (which is being quickly dispelled by the current meta which is really interesting; grimdark children--), this shop, setting, these characters, they have a lot to offer and I think everything about this place could be a lot of fun. It already is fun!

Why would you like to keep Somnum alive and kicking?
Oh man oh man oh man I just – there's such a big window of opportunity right now for this kind of place. It's absolutely lovely. It might take some work, every shop and each event in it is a trial and error process, but I want to see this place thrive and succeed as best it can in the current B/C climate. I can tell a lot of love was put into this concept and I would never ever want to see that go to waste. I want to do everything in my power to see the love put into this place poured out to its participants so they can pour it right back in! I've had tons and tons of b/c ideas since I first entered these forums and working on these kinds of projects with and for people is a very fulfilling process for me, emotionally, so I'd love to do anything I can to help.

Are you currently employed in any other B/C shops? Which ones? What is your role?
I am currently a head manager/co-owner of the b/c the Plague Doctor where I function as an informant, assistant, writer, critiquer, and event coordinator. I take a proactive role in assisting people with their character plots, making sure their characters fit into the setting, and generally keeping the atmosphere light in the main thread while answering any questions they may have.

What has been your experience in the B/C?
Oh my lordy. I think I came into the B/C in... 2007, just about. The first shop I took interest in questing in was Lab 305, then shortly after I found Ashes of the Wind where I briefly quested before entering into a concept contest ORP. Over the course of several years I've come to enter and participate in various shops, either just by questing and chatting or managing to acquire characters; Life Dust, Daemonolgie, Full Moon, Code Wars, and various others. I've had a kind of EMBARRASSING amount of interest thread attempts, here are a few worthy of note: Bathhouse of the Gods (a Spirited Away b/c), Mind Over Matter (a b/c which may receive a revival attempt sometime 2014), and a currently open but semi-hiatused project Apotheosis (an interest thread based on the game Journey). I applied to Plague Doctor in 2009 and have been on staff ever since it opened. I'm very familiar with a variety of shop types, from RP required to sig candy, and well acquainted with numerous b/c regulars.

What can you offer Somnum? How would you make it a better shop?
I have years of experience in dealing with the B/C, as well as how to run or staff at shops. While many of my own attempts at shops did not get off the ground, it has allowed me to learn from my mistakes and see what things really work in terms of staffing versus what doesn't. I have experience running all kinds of events, I'm ready and willing to write whatever is needed of me, and I'm a very good brainstormer! If we have a plot predicament, all we need to do is sit down and talk it out – we'll definitely reach a viable conclusion! I'm especially confident in my ability to provide character critiques and assist in making sure everyone's characters fit into the given setting without being too restrictive. My main priority in any situation is for people to have fun but we still need to have structure, so I look to uphold that structure while still allowing for a great deal of creativity. I pride myself on being approachable in threads and always try to keep a friendly atmosphere. I also have no fear in tending to problematic conversation or situations in thread but I will always check before I handle a situation and do my best to deal with it smoothly and privately. I also have experience with world building and would love to try and utilize that skill in a fantastical setting like Somnum where most limitations are based on the scope of imagination itself!

Are you good at teamworking?
I love! Working! Together! I love plotting and planning and discussing! I love talking to people! There are definitely times where I may not know what to say or I feel a little overwhelmed in bigger social situations but teamwork is a really great thing that I would never ever spurn! I have a lot of practice dealing with multi-staff situations, as my experience at Plague Doctor has almost always revolved around a four person staff, and we always work together with one another to ensure efficiency and accuracy. In general I think I have good people skills, I'm a decent judge of character, and people often tell me I'm very patient!

Show me some good writing skills aw yeah!

Anything you might want to add?
I'm in EST (GMT -5) and almost always available for group meetings. I am able to be contacted over Skype in chat or voice, by PM here on Gaia, my tumblr is five-5-sixers, and if it would be beneficial I am even able to be contacted by phone but I'll leave that info for later! If I won't be available for any reason I will always give prior notice. I'm extremely flexible in terms of planning and just generally agreeable about most things.

What do you like to be called?
Sem, or Unity, or Sembu, whatever

Do you love Somnum? Why?
    Y E S.
This overall theme of the shop is unique and beautiful. I feel like it have many different directions it can go. I love playing Altair and um... offering you unsolicited opinions coughs. The world right now is a great base to turn into something even more lush and awesome! It feels like it's my duty to give something back to the shop and help it bloom even more.

Why would you like to keep Somnum alive and kicking?
It's beautiful here. There is beautiful artwork, a beautiful basis, the dreaming is so unique!
I would love to see where everyone takes their characters. We already have unique characters, partially due to the concept, so there's a lot of potential both there (and in new people to come) that I do not want to see wasted. Right now, there is a dearth of animal-based sig-candy shops, which is fine. But this shop fills a dreamy humanoid roleplay void that I never knew existed. The ability to both roleplay within the city, the nursery and to also create dreamworlds? That's what I want to keep alive.

Are you currently employed in any other B/C shops? Which ones? What is your role?
Not really, I volunteer for bits here and there, but it's few & far between. I also freely offer critiques to any questers. It's always refreshing when someone says I've been able to help them!

What has been your experience in the B/C?
I have wandered the b/c since 2004, but stuck to roleplay guilds for a bit. The first roleplay-required shops I joined were both Gods Reborn and Nightmares in May 2005. Since then, I entered various flatsales here and there, but never really quested until 2012. I tend to prefer building a character around a basic concept rather than becoming set on one idea of my own. Right now, I currently participate in My Little Phony, Plague Doctor, Puella: Symphony, Life Dust, Eidolon, and, of course, here. These shops are both rp-required and not.
The most welcoming shops have been ones where the staff has been active in thread and been available for questions.

What can you offer Somnum? How would you make it a better shop?
I want Somnum to have clear and thorough information presented neatly within both the guild ad thread. I'm not looking to just help maintain a roleplay space, I'm looking to help flesh out a world. Asking and answering questions is what I'm best at: from critiquing entries to brainstorming to laying down the rules. I will cover all your bases. If you don't want to be strict with rules, I will be strict for you. If you're stuck on something, you can rely on me. I'll be here to fill any holes you need filling. Providing a strong foundation for roleplayers to build upon is the most important part of any b/c shop. I feel as though once this background is the sturdiest it can be, people will feel a sense of freedom within the world.
I also oddly love doing the really menial stuff, like counting activity requirements and coding posts...

Are you good at teamworking?
Talking with people is what I do best! The best shops always have a strong, communicative team at their helm and that's something I want to bring here as well. I'm almost always available online for anything anyone might need. I want to know the people I'm working with not just as co-workers (or co-conspirators ehehe), but as friends as well.I know I can rely on the people at this shop.

Show me some good writing skills aw yeah!

Anything you might want to add?
I'm in EST and I really like potatoes.
Also you can contact me via skype, aim, pm, or phone.
Did you know that there are 29 different shades of red crayola crayons?
There's also a crayon called Fuzzy Wuzzy.
