The Destiny City Holiday Fair is usually jam-packed with people -- close enough that it can, during the busy hours, be hard to get into some of the booths, people waiting their turn to slip in to look at that selection of spoon rings or hand-knitted scarves, to buy the speciality cocoa to drive off winter's chill.

Where better, then, to collect energy?

General Ilmenite decided that this year, clad in heavy winter coats to obscure their uniforms, armed with holiday cheer, sweets and hot drinks, the Negaverse will take advantage of the crowds to fulfill their quotas -- and even, perhaps, to surpass them...

_______

This is an ORP training event that takes place at the Destiny City Holiday Fair! It will end at 11:59pm on December 13th. Unlike the Come as You Aren't event ran back in August, this event will allow for interaction with civilians if desired, more lengthy back-and-forth RPs -- or, if preferred, you could simple stick to solo-style interactions with NPCs!

Negaverse Characters, both Officers and Corrupt Senshi, were asked to sign up in our previous sign up thread. This time around, however, sign-ups are not closed! If you missed the window but are still interested in joining in, please just post in the sign up thread before you leap into this thread, so that I can easily keep track of who's in the running for the Mystery Grand Prize.

Here are the participating agents of Chaos:

[Mistress Morbid] / Sailor Azurite
Asahi Kumoru / Sailor Acanthite
Bluefire Dragonz / Lieutenant Cinnabar
ChibiGingi / Super Vespa
Die Fluegel der Freiheit / Lieutenant Erythrite
Fallen_kitsune_thief / Lieutenant Zircon
Holy Blasphemy / Lieutenant Chernobylite
Ivynian / Captain Schorl
kurotomato / Lieutenant Aurostibite
MoonKitsune / General Wolframite
Rejam / Lieutenant Bornite
romeo wilco / Captain Avalon
Silent Spy / Super Typhon
Sylent Nyte / Super Cyllene

Order characters and civilians are allowed to participate as well, wandering around the Holiday Fair, making purchases at various booths, but they will not be allowed to power up, as there will be eyes on everyone at all times, allowing no opportunity for privacy. Anyone is welcome to post in this manner; no sign ups were required!

Dark Moon Senshi can come, but must come in civilian form, as their energy gathering methods won't work in this setting. They'll be given black flower pins to keep anyone from draining them. Anyone is welcome to post in this manner; no sign ups were required!

The supplies

In order to aid his recruits in their energy-gathering efforts, Ilmenite has claimed booth number 42 at the fair as a supply station. Here, he has several things that might aid them in getting closer and avoiding suspicion. A trip to the grocery story came back with several cartloads of chocolate chip cookies, now unwrapped and on platters, along with dirt cheap hot cocoa made mixed with water, and Richard Moreau of the Sugar Shanty has donated some of his lower-end chocolates.

There are also quite a few paper printouts with the lyrics of famous Christmas songs and hymns printed on them...

As required, during the course of the invasion, they are welcome to come collect any of these goodies from booth 42 where Ilmenite and Zinkenite are settled in heavy coats over their uniforms and scarves. As they take what they need, Ilmenite gives them one last reminder: under no circumstances will there be any killing or starseed ripping at this event.

The Rules

Unlike in the Come as You Aren't event that happened over the summer, there are no rounds this time around, nor any limits on how often you post. Instead, the only limitation is that you can't post twice in a row, you must wait for at least one other person to post before you can dive in again! Also, please make sure to have a generous number of words per post, to go along with your roll.

You welcome either to make up an NPC that you're draining a bit of energy from each time you post, or you can RP with anyone else who happens to be in the thread -- that is up to you!

Please note that greater participation might mean you're more likely to win, but it could also mean that you're more likely to get bounced...

____________________________________________________

As with the Love Bites and Come as You Aren't events, participants have three options --

Low Risk/Low Reward: Collect chocolates, cocoa, or cookies from Ilmenite at booth 42 for this option, and hand them out as 'free samples' to people at the fair. As you pass them out, gather a bit of energy from your victims...
  • Roll 1 20-sided die. 1-4 means you've been flagged; 5-20 means you successfully drain 1 energy point.

Medium Risk/Medium Reward: Pick up one of Ilmenite's pre-printed carol books and sing to bring in some victims. Gather from them as they get closer, and hope your voice is enough to keep them distracted...
  • Roll 1 10-sided die. 1-4 means you've been flagged; 4-9 means you successfully drain 3 energy points.

High Risk/High Reward: Who need gimmicks? Walk around the fair and gather from people without any kind of aid in doing so, and just hope that no one thinks it's strange you're not buying anything.
  • Roll 1 5-sided die. 1-3 means you've been flagged; 4-5 means you successfully drain 5 energy points.

If you're flagged three times, total, then you'll be bounced from the event, because you've acted like creep in some way. Bounced officers will be asked to write an exit post and leave the premises.

Please link to past rolls in every post you make as part of the contest, so that blue can more easily see what you've been doing, and more easily tally your score.

____________________________________________________

In addition to your dice roll, you must write an RP post that roughly gives an idea of what you character is doing.

At the end of the event, the person with the most energy points will be crowned the winner. Bounced officers will still be in the running, but will be penalized 5 energy points.

____________________________________________________

Any civilian characters or DMC Senshi can post as often as they like to participate, but absolutely do not roll! You guys are just, basically, on a fun shopping event, meeting people you've never met before. DMC or out of uniform officers can come get free cocoa and cookies if they'd like...

Ilmenite was there early -- five PM, but it was already dark as he dragged box after box of cookies into his booth, grumbling to himself as he set up the water boiler and put up his ridiculously overpriced sign.

Booth 42 was Bedlam, and it was -- bare. Behind the cheap desk, with a cheap holiday-themed table cloth over it, was exactly one shelf, a bin full of cookies ad chocolates, the electric kettle, and two chairs. Technically, they were open for business, selling all of the above from hastily put-together platters and styrofoam cups. At $8 a glass or $10 a cookie, though, mostly it just got brief looks and was then dismissed.

Those prices were criminal. That was the point.

He settled into his seat and checked the time; not quite 6pm, with a good four or five hours left before shops closed down and everyone went home. It left plenty of time for officers to enter the holiday fair -- now bustling with people who had just gotten out of work, looking for gifts and sweets and strange foods. The grounds ripe for the plucking.

________

This energy gathering event is now open!

You're welcome to write up your Officer collecting freebies from Bedlam, Ilmenite's booth, or you can just hand wave it -- that's up to you! I advise against actually looking for a reply from Ilmenite, hough, since my reply could take a good long while and delay your participation elsewhere...

If you didn't sign up, but are still interested in joining in, please be sure to post in this thread before your Officer enters, so I can keep track of who's playing.

Now have at it...!

“Not a bad idea.” Zink admitted, so far he was staying close to Ever, well, Ilmenite. He was likewise in uniform, though it would be so much harder to tell. He was using the crimson crystal to give himself the appearance of a civilian, casual but warm clothes and…well, he looked like a girl. Just close enough to his own face to border on disconcerting, but distinctly curvier. He’d taken a few ‘Lena’ fashion tips, copying the appearance of skirts and ‘Ugg’ boots, but still maintaining the cover of a long coat that brushed nearly to his ankles. The closer to reality he stayed the more believable the illusion would be if someone –touched- him.

“You should spike that, you might actually get sales.”

‘She’ flashed a wicked grin. “I realize that’s not the point, but it’d be worth a laugh.” He grinned.

“How do you think we’ll do today?”
PostPosted: Fri Dec 06, 2013 6:35 pm
Zed got one look, brief, and then Ilmenite's expression shut down -- dark eyes sliding away to the rest of the crowd to hunt for other Officers, his expression just about begging them to come up to his booth for supplies. He didn't grin back. For once.

"You don't exist right now." It was joking -- mostly. Maybe not entirely. Female Zach made him a bit uncomfortable at the moment. "You are not even a figment of my imagination, because I would never imagine that."

Someone would show up to rescue him.

Knight in Shining Armor, Unlikely Candidate #1: Sawyer.

Or rather, Bornite, bundled up into a heavy duster and a stocking cap and looking appropriately elfin and red-nosed and rosy-eared. In the way of Sawyer he appeared out of nowhere. In the way of Bornite he gave Ilmenite a nervous grin.

He eyed Zac sideways but aloofly withheld comment. "You're a ******** genius," he informed Ilmenite, sticking out a hand as if in congratulations. "Go ahead. Maybe some of it'll rub off on me. I spent ten minutes on twitter last night trying to figure out how to spell 'differentiate.'"
PostPosted: Fri Dec 06, 2013 8:07 pm
He was, remarkably, the first of them -- and while still studiously ignoring the female Zed at his left, Ilmenite pushed cookies and a book across toward Sawyer, to give him the choice of weaponry.

"Your choice. It's probably safer to go with the sweets, but might be more festive to go for the song."

"Sir, yes sir," he chirped, taking the cookies. This was perhaps unsurprising given his non-too-impressive run at the speed dating event.

Sawyer had a natural advantage in this arena, and was aware of it. There were days Sawyer deeply lamented looking like a bedheaded fifteen-year-old. Today was not that day. Today he turned this very much to his advantage, and swooped on a middle-aged woman wearing too much holiday-themed jewelry.

He moved on with a giddy sense of early success, and a pair of paper antlers she'd insisted on bestowing before the drowsy eyes set in. This was, he felt, like improving your raid gear at level one: natural advantages were now supplemented with appropriate attire.

"'Tis the season to be jolly, fa la la la la, lala la la!"

Super Sailor Vespa wasn't the best when it came to singing Christmas carols or even singing. In fact, there were times when others, even his own family, would beg him to stop, and one girl had once told him that his singing voice was equivalent to dropping a few atom bombs within their ears and therefor an crime against humanity.

But much like his career as a senshi seeking redemption through the Negaverse, Vespa was willing to do whatever was necessary to succeed, and if that meant belting out a few tunes, as ear-wrenchingly off key as they were, then so be it. He was bundled up, and covering his bug-eyed visor was an even bigger visor, meant for a colder and harsher environment, and ready to lure others over for their energy.

"Don be now our gay apparel, fa la la la, lala la, lala la, la la la!"

Someone had made a rude remark about his own apparel, but Vespa kept singing, managing to snag some energy from a nearby civilian as a reward for his effort.

So, this was probably one of the last places you would have expected to find Cinnabar during her off time. She had no kith or kin to buy presents for, no notable friends she wanted to please with a gift... and yet here she was. At least this was 'work'... a good way to train this new ability she had gained. She needed to show her superiors her strength and cunning if she ever hoped to move up through the ranks and gain any real power...

Hoping to off set her punk attired when she was powered up, the lieutenant had added a long black duster to the outfit, concealing much of her clothing in its voluminous length. Buttoned up, tied around the waist, she could pass as a civilian, albeit one who preferred a rather lot of black and red, versus red and green. At least she had a cheery red scarf around her neck to warm her face with as she stalked down the aisles, weaving her way gracefully between people.

The idea of singing was more or less out... she wasn't good at it, at least in her opinion, and the idea of trying to make nice with people while passing out treats had made her skin crawl. These were her prey... beast she was here to feed from... playing nice for them just grated on her. So, the black-haired woman had decided to take a bit more brash approach and drain as she walked... which paid off from the beginning as she brushed by a pretty young teenager and pulled a snippet of energy from her. The girl seemed to sag a little, and then shrugged it off, going back to her animated conversation with a friend.

A cruel smile moved over Cinnabar's face as she moved on, looking for another likely target.

Zac sighed and rolled his eyes. “Sorry.” He moved and hugged Ever from behind, a very… normal feeling hug despite the fact that looks said ‘girl’.

“Just remember, looks are deceiving. And if people think that General Ilmenite is … strait, then maybe I won’t have to worry about someone else deciding your –terrible- boxers are attractive. Think about the energy… I can still change a little, but I needed it to look normal in case something happens…”

He squeezed and moved away again.

“I didn’t think it’d bother you this much.”

Azurite glanced about as she walked in, the lovely Erythrite on her arm. "You ever done one of these things before Ery?" She asked as she spotted the booth, tilting her head in the direction. "Would you rather we split after or do you perfer to work with someone?" There was a grin plastered on her face as she grinned at the purplette. When they got to the booth however, Azurite blinked, canting her head as she stared at the 'girl'. "Ugh.. I am jealous of this guys swag. How come he gets all the hot people?" First Zac, now this chick? Unfaaaaair. Azurite took some of the chocolates and then headed down a path. "I'm going this way." She said waving a hand as she waltz right up to some confused looking patron.

Vespa kept on singing, for once feeling awfully good about himself and what he was hoping to accomplish. Maybe he wasn't such a screw up after all? Maybe he could manage to pull his weight and then some, and make others proud to have him be part of the team? It was worth a shot.

"Hark the harolds, angels sing-!"

"God have mercy on us if you keep on singing!" Someone from the crowd shouted, catching Vespa off guard and causing his song, and jolly mood, to drop. There were murmurs among the crowd and while he wasn't sure exactly what they were saying, he knew them to be talking about him. And what was worse was that he caught a guard's eye...

"Sorry, I'll just... take my holiday spirit elsewhere..." Vespa muttered, slinking away with a sigh. So much for that idea.

The off-key singing going on across the fair was grating on the ears, but at least it drew attention away from Cinnabar. While people were looking off that way, whispering to each other, it let the lieutenant that was right beside them slip by completely unnoticed.

Taking the opportunity, Cinnabar leaned in between two shoppers who were looking off the other way, pretending to appraise the items out for sale as she discreetly sucked a bit of energy from the tall man while he spoke to his wife. After a moment, he rolled his neck and shoulders as though easing some stiffness and by then, the tall woman had glided off down the aisle.

This was going well so far! Hopefully she wasn't jinxing herself by saying it to herself. Lifting her leather gloved hands to her face, Cinnabar blew on her fingers to warm them and wandered towards the next group of shoppers.
