Lost

Nan 2013

Baer looked around at her surroundings, there were noises everywhere and she had no idea where she was. She was trapped, lost in the concrete jungle. It was a really stupid jungle. Nothing like the quiet Wilderness she was used to with only the sounds of the wild animals and the Rustling of the leaves on the trees breaking the Silence. The only sources of light were the sun, moon, fire and a few weird devices the others managed to find. She hissed softly, she needed to relax thing clearly there was no need to panic. No one knew she was here other than the other Nightmares, she was safe no one would be after her as long as she was smart and stuck to the shadows.

But here it was different there were lights everywhere little suns on poles, street lights they were called although she wasn't sure how she knew that, it was something she just knew. It was weird that the source of light was coming from below her instead of from above. The noises were strange, unnatural whirrings and beepings, honking horns and ringing phones. She scrambled up the side of the building she was one, she was lucky that the groves in the bricks were deep enough for her to get a foothold in.

From her perch high up she scanned the city to see if she couldn't find any of the other nightmares that were possibly lurking around. She twitched a bit, feeling the desire to attack, to rip things apart crawling up her skin. Rip, tear, destroy them, and show them that they could not keep her imprisoned. Yes, then she'd have nice human pelts too. Would her powers work on a human she wondered, it worked on animals and humans were animals to right? So it should work. It would be fun to find out wouldn't it? Yes it would be. But no it was a bad idea to just jump down there and rip apart the next passerby as much as she wanted to it was best to sneak around jumping from one shadow to the next, that way they wouldn't be seen. If she was seen they would send the dreamery staff after her. It was foolish to fight without knowing the way out, how to retreat and who knew what would happen if she got caught, something bad no doubt. Imprisoned, tortured, death? Baer shook her head, she was smarter than that. She would find out how far her powers extend another time.

She could find her way out of this false stone monstrosity and back to the wilderness without being spotted and on the off chance she was spotted, she could out run most anyone she ran into. Spotting the edge of the city that when to the part of the wilderness she lived with the others she headed in that direction. Climbing and jumping her away over the obstacles she found.

She growled softly seeing that there was a large gap between the building on which she was resting and the side that was closer to the wilderness. It was to far to jump, so she would have to jump as far as she could and then run. She checked the area to make sure no one was around to spot her before leaping and then scrambling up the side of the nearest building.

Maybe she should turn into one of those gecko things; it would be easier to climb up walls. But they were so tiny; it would take a lot of them to make a good sized skin for her to wear. Would it even work if she combined the skins of more than one animal of the same type? That was something to test latter on, it would be interesting to find out. It was possible one gecko skin would work but it could only be turned into a bracelet or something because it was so small. it was useful for spying and climbing but a gecko didn't really have that man good advantages, still it was something to look into.

A few quick movements over the roofs and she made it to the end of the city, now all that lay before her was the empty wilderness, home. Once again she looked around to make sure no one was watching, she didn't want to lead anyone to the Nightmare Squad's camp. She jumped down and ran off, glad to finally be free of strange false stone city and happy she wasn't lost anymore.

Boundaries

Nano 2013

Baer growled scurrying up a tree, that stupid druid had been around again, as if the fuffy tailed fox thing wasn’t bad enough she had this stupid black haired lady keep poking around in her business. The stupid fluff butt was smart enough to stay out of her territory but the weird lady just wouldn’t back off. It didn’t matter how many times Baer attacked her; her so called ‘guardian’ didn’t seem intimidated. Why? She was scary, so what if she didn’t have good control, or much control at all of her abilities, she could still do a lot of damage without her powers and with them she was terrifying wasn’t she? Most people, normal people would run far way. At least that’s what she though normal people would do. It what the other people she had run into had done. She shook her head it didn’t matter the next time that someone came to close she would teach them why others feared her, why she should be feared; they’d taste her claws and her fangs.

Stupid jerk dragged her off world and away from the other nightmares. That was the dreamery’s plan all along wasn’t it? To separate them so that they wouldn’t be a cohesive group wouldn’t be a threat. She huffed again before moving in the trees to see what it was that her so called ‘guardian’ had left. It had been a while since the other had gotten close enough that Baer had left the need to attack but the druid-lady still got to close for comfort. From her vantage point in the trees she peered down at the ground. It looked like she had once again left that food stuff. At least Baer assumed it was food, she had seen her and that fox chic eating it at a table when she had been stalking. She was curious, watching them sometimes from afar without them knowing. The same why she had followed and watched the people in the city when she had been with Toxkickity and the others.

Why the guardian kept giving her food baffled Baer to no end, it wasn’t like she was going to eat the stuff. After a few weeks she figured that would be obvious. She could live just fine off the animal she killed; sometimes she’d eat the fruit and berries she found. She didn’t need their handouts. She had her den and her food, what did she care if they had a ‘bed’ for her. She had a home and what she needed was to be left alone, or better yet go back with the other nightmares.

There were boundaries and they were not to be crossed. They had there space and she had hers. That was the way it was and the way it would stay. The sooner that the others learned that the better off all three of them would be. She liked it that way and that was the way she wanted it. They’d watch each other from afar. The druid would make sure that she didn’t go off and kill people or destroy to much of her precious forest and Baer would watch, study them. For now the barriers, the boundries that Baer had set stood tall and imposing, but someday, maybe they would start to blur and fade away.

Death

Nano 2013

Warning Blood

Baer moved stealth fully through the trees her lips curled in a ferocious smile. She was stalking. There was a deer up wind it wouldn't smell or she her coming, the hunt thrilled her, excitement coarsening throughout her. She silently inched forward keeping her eyes on the prey she moved closer, the unsuspecting deer continued to graze peacefully unaware that it's life was about to come to a sudden and violent end.

The deer looked around seeing if there was anything nearby spotting nothing it moved back to grazing, eyes focused on the ground and the dirt. Baer jumped down aiming for the deer which looked up as it saw a shadow descending on it. The deer tried to bolt but it was too slow and its body buckled and fell crushed under the weight that had landed on it.

Delight spread across Baer's face as she stood up looking at it. She had managed to break its spine and the deer was twisted unnaturally. She slashed its throat with her powerful claws just to be sure there wasn’t chance that it had survived. She watched as the eyes glazed over becoming lifeless and dull, she wondered why that happened, not much else seemed to change when she killed thing, but the eyes did.

She licked the blood of her claws as she thought about it, what exactly was death? The answer to that was simple was it not, the creature was simply not living anymore. A rumble in her stomach distracted her from her thoughts and she made another cut in the deer, this time she reached inside the cut and pulled out a chunk of meat. She quickly ate the fresh warm meat she had hunted, it tasted wonderful. It was savory and moist with blood. She licked the blood of her claws as she went back to what she was thinking about earlier now that her stomach was placated for the moment. When things were dead you could eat them, food was made of dead things wasn’t it. Then there was the fur, people used them for cloths, blankets and she could use them to get stronger. Death of others meant food and power. Yes that meant that death was a good thing, a very good thing.

Now that that was settled she could get on with the more important things there were to do, like dragging her meal back to her territory and eating it. Baer grabbed the deer carcass by the back legs and started to drag it back, making sure that no dirt got in the slits she had cut in it. It would take long to move it this way and her fur already had blood on it from earlier so she stopped and grabbed the front legs as well and brought the deer onto her shoulders so she could carry it faster without worrying about dirt. Once she was finished eating she would clean her fur, dried blood was not the easiest thing to clean out of the long fur.
