Sueno stretched and grabbed her gloves before heading out into the predawn gloom. Videe, her pet Vlidean was already up and squawked a greeting to her. She shushed him and looked back at the house. Hopefully her parents and brother didn’t wake up for another hour. Sueno held out an arm for Videe to land on.
“Ah’m a-going to try to catch a freind fer ye!” She whispered to him with a grin. Videe looked at her and bumped her face with his in a demand for scratches. She sighed and scratched him. Maybe this time she’d be able to do it alone. It had been a year since she’d helped Sameal to capture Videe and she wanted to see if she could do it herself. Maybe, maybe not. But I can certainly try! Plus it’d help convince my parents that I’m ready for it. She grumbled to herself as she walked into the woods. She’d had a growth spurt in the past year and was now taller, but she knew they still saw her as small and defenseless. How am I ever going to get any practice training non farm animals if I don’t try? Sueno thought with disgust. I know that Pa’s disappointed that Madryn isn’t showing interest in the farm, but still! He can pay attention to me a bit more. Pouting she scratched Videe as they wandered near the place where she’d found Videe himself. Or at least, where she thought he’d been found. She heard the shrill cries and screeching soon after passing by a large field that look familiar. Videe perked up and looked about before fluffing himself and going back to napping in Sueno’s arms.
“Sometimes Ah think ye must view yerself as the master and me as the servant.” She said with a smile as she looked down at him. “Ye’ve got wings, ye should use them!” VIdee looked up at her and snorted before rolling onto his back for her to pet his stomach.
“Spoiled, that’s what ye are!” She chuckled affectionately as she obliged.
A loud screech above her startled her and Videe. She stopped and looked up as Videe squirmed around and hissed at the other VIidean. It was bright pink and looked pissed. Videe jumped out of her arms and flew above her, his feathers fluffed up to make the young vlidean look bigger. The adult vlidean flew screeching at him, claws extended for battle! Sueno flared her wings up and grabbed Videe as she flew upwards. Holding him tightly, she zipped back towards home. She could only hold her wings for a short time, but it was long enough to get her and Videe out of there. Videe squirmed and squawked angrily, he could have taken it on. Sueno kept a tight grip on him; she knew that while he protected her, that didn’t mean he knew how to fight! He was all sound no bite from what she’d seen! She didn't want to risk herself or Videe getting hurt, so fleeing it was!

“Oh hush, Videe! Ye couldna fight it anyways! Yer much too small!” She sighed as s he trudged back home. “No sense in fighting, so Ah guess Ah’ll have to try for an unguarded nest next time.”
