* As suggested by Deeg: It's absorption skill starts out really weak and gets stronger as it manifests. Initially it has next to no luck digesting anything not meant for digestion or taking it in through anything other than an orifice (get your heads out of the gutter). So at the hatchling stage they can eat but they can't eat just anything and gain nutrition from it.
