Location: The Abandoned Takakonuma Greenland Park
Images:: x, x, x.
General debriefing: Recently, the park opened itself up for a different type of tourist crowd, making itself a fun tourist set for locals, until unexplained deaths began happening to those on-site. Falling beams, uneven flooring, and occasionally, witnesses have claimed that they hear voices, oddly enough of themselves through the fog.
* C class difficulty level (must have a team of three, at least one of them must be an intermediate trainee)

MECHANICS

* MECHANICS: RP assembling a team, as necessary, before heading towards the Lighthouse portal to request a portal to Survey Mission 4B. Once there, roll a 100-sided dice and match the roleplay to the results below, as well as any reactions. Players can continue rolling until any of the players roll a INSANITY ENCOUNTER, in which case the BATTLE PHASE begins. See below for battle phase mechanics.
1- 20: You have a hard time getting past the fog, everything thick and desolate. Finally you see something, a flash of something, colour in the fog. You run over to it to discover that it is a mutilated corpse. Its face has been torn clean off its head, maggots crawling out of the skull.
21 - 40: You notice that some of the rides are moving on their own, from the roller coaster - still taped off with DANGER DO NOT ENTER - to the excuse of a ferris wheel. A body slumps to one side of the ticket booth, dried out. You turn around as you hear a strange hissing noise. As you turn back, the body standing, still, in front of the ticket booth.
41 - 60: You stumble for a second, as if someone, one of your teammates have shoved you, but when you look around, you notice that there is noone else in sight.
61 - 80: You see a mirror maze, and walk into it, your reflection eerie in each broken mirror fragment. Everything suddenly turns an oblique white and as you regain your vision seconds later, all your reflections have been replaced with your body melting, face and skin melting right off your face's reflection. Your reflection continues to copy everything you do.
81- 100: BOSS ENCOUNTER:
- As you continue walking down the sidewalk you hear a large crack, followed by another. A strange gas explodes from underneath, making you extremely dizzy, as you cough to figure out what is going on, fighting for air now. You have exposed your entire team to a hallucinogen, making everything more terrifying than ever as your vision swims and hops uncontrollably and your hearing becomes muted. Something creaks, groans, lurches underneath you, but is that your imagination?

- BOSS MECHANICS: This boss is a mob that has collective 100 HP. Every time you attack it (following the general battle rules), you TAKE 8 damage. AS you can't really see the boss, most of it will have to be dependent on what you can see, if anything at all, from strange faceless figures lurching, half-hopping towards you to the smiling dead coming back and swiping at you. Make sure to tally the boss's total HP (the damage you did to it) at the bottom of your post as well as your total HP and the damage you did that round. If the boss's HP hits 0, you have defeated it, and your team can now take the portal back.

As soon as the possibility to leave was presented, Bix was on it. He answered a mission request for something that sounded particularly creepy, some sort of amusement park, and then just picked some names from his contacts.

Rejam
Come for a mission. I can prove I'm not as lame as I seem. biggrin You can smoke as much as you want.

prolixity
Hey.. need a reliable third body. Don't wanna take any chances. Let's smash this thing.

He waited by the portal with headsets and return pendants for all of them.

Text to Bix: On my way.

Getting off the island sounded like a great idea, even if it was just a mission. They wouldn't be finding any major power sources on a three-person external, but it was a chance to get out, and the portals being clear for use again was encouraging, anyway. Jordan grabbed his mission pack and headed for the lighthouse, idly wondering who else Bix had tapped for this.

"Hey, dude," he greeted Bix, offering the pale man a fistbump before he picked up his headset and looped the pendant over his head. "Where are we going today?"

Text to Bix: Cheap bribery. On my way.

The question was answered by the sudden arrival of Taym, whose face (more gaunt and sleep-deprived than ever) was a careful mask of non-expression when he realized why Jordan was here. Wordlessly, he reached for the headset and the pendant. He'd been looking forward to this, inasmuch as Taym ever looked forward to anything, because he felt an inexplicable need to prove that he'd earned his (literal, he realized) stripes. The promotion had come as a total blindsiding shock, and he was still attempting to figure out whether he deserved it.

He jerked a nod at Jordan, and then at Bix, and said absolutely nothing. Off to a rousing good start, here.

Bix fist bumped Jordan back and slipped his own headset up and over his ears when he saw Taym approaching.

"Creepy amusement park. Apparently there's been murders." That meant a bit more to Bix than a simple haunting. If people were being hurt he wanted to help. It was the need that had put him on Deus in the first place.

"Obi Waaaan." Bix was happy to be able to talk freely again with Taym and handed over the goods. He couldn't tell if the other was being himself or if there was some sort of beef with him and Jordan.. but it wasn't worth questioning really.

He gave the portal operator a thumbs up and with the nod they fired it up. "YOU GUYS KNOW THE DRILL.." he said it loudly over the portal before flipping the headset to 'On' and returning to normal volume. "You know the drill. Get in, investigate, determine the source and eliminate it if possible. Bring back any relevant evidence." He didn't need to go over it with Jordan, he was sure, but Bix didn't know how many off-island missions Taym had gone on.

"In my past experience," He said to Taym directly. "There's always something to fight. So stay on your toes and be ready with your weapon." He gave them both a big grin, a thumbs up, and stepped into the portal to....

.. creep central.

Jordan nodded back to Taym, keeping his expression likewise neutral. Personal dislike or not, this was mission time. His eyebrows did lift slightly at the nickname, but he kept any opinion he might have on that to himself.

"Reported as murders by civilian authorities?" he asked Bix. "Are we going to have to worry about potential police presence, or civilian presence in general?" Abandoned locations were easier than populated ones, but they could and had worked around confused normal humans before. If they had to, they would.

He checked the clip on his bag, made sure that his barrier daggers were easily reachable should he need them, turned the headset on, and followed Bix through the portal.

The abandoned amusement park gave him pause for a moment, reminding him uncomfortably of the greyed-out, ruined park that Rojand had climbed through so many times in the Rift, but he didn't allow it to slow him down by more than a half-step. "I'd prefer to stick together," he said to Bix and Taym. "It'd be easy to get lost or turned around in this fog."

The fog seemed to muffle even footsteps, and the features of the park loomed silently up and vanished as they passed. Nothing seemed unusual, or at least not unusual for an abandoned amusement park, but Jordan was on edge. When he spotted something half-hidden behind a rotting wooden fence, he approached it cautiously.

It was a corpse, the skin and flesh of its face torn messily away to expose bone. Jordan grimaced and backed up a step. Zombie?

Just dead, Ferros reported.

"Well, we've found one of the victims," Jordan told the others. He took his phone out and took a picture for documentation.

Taym's thoughts were running along the same lines Jordan's were, but with a strange fondness. With a weird anthropomorphizing urge, he blamed whatever had settled in the park, and not the park itself. The deaths were the result of a parasite infecting an innocent host. He felt an inexplicable need to defend the place, which reminded him so strongly of the Ruins. The only place he'd felt comfortable. A place where, if he was honest with himself, Amity had felt more uncomfortable than Taym did on Deus.

Gingerly, like a man comforting a snapping dog, Taym reached out to touch a rusted-out railing, running his hand over it and pausing when Jordan spoke.

"I'd rather deal with a monster than the ******** pigs," he said. "Although apparently you're happy having both," he added, under his breath but not quite enough under his breath to keep it from being heard. Abruptly, despite the fact that he was not moving, he stumbled, and he wheeled on what he thought was Jordan with a snarl, only to find that he was still several feet away.

His fingers loosened out of the fist they'd found themselves in.

Bix was not as quiet about things as the others. With the headset, he could speak to them without drawing attention to himself. "Oh hey it's just like that park in the umm.. dream thing."

He stayed close to the them, but not too close and Jordan and Taym were both a few feet to his right. He squinted and looked out into the fog. "Fog's thick.. things seem to move.." He commented quietly. The Sun clicked into the headset line, "Is it bad that I miss the island fog?"

And then he was shoved. He almost laughed, thinking it was one of them indicating how stupid it would be to miss such a thing but.... no. They were still feet away.

"I just got shoved." He said aloud.

"I was just thinking that," Jordan answered Bix. "Goddamn rollercoaster."

He gave Taym a flat look for his comment, but bit back the snappish response. Not right now. He saw Taym stumble, and frowned a little; then the same thing happened to Bix. "Might be a poltergeist," Jordan said. "Keep an eye out."

A broken-down building caught his attention. Had that been a flicker of motion disappearing into the structure? Cautiously, he followed it, and found himself inside a funhouse maze. "Mirror maze in here," he reported briefly into the headset, and kept careful track of the turns he was taking.

The sudden whiteout had nothing to do with the fog. Startled, he met his reflection's eyes in the mirror in front of him as he regained his vision, and was sorry a moment later as he watched the reflection's face begin to melt off. He touched his face, glanced down to make sure that he was still physically unaffected, then looked around to note that all of his reflections were showing the same bizarre, unsettling dripping, melting-wax effect, though they followed his movements as a normal reflection would. "My reflections appear to be melting. Possible hallucinations," he said into the headset, "or some kind of Fear effect on the mirrors."

Not two seconds after Jordan's report from inside the funhouse, Taym found himself knocked nearly off his feet again. The unsettling realization that there wasn't a damn thing he could do for it had him falling back yet again on sarcasm, his thumb running nervously along the ring that was Fionnghal, twisting it around his finger over and over. <******** hell. Keep an eye," snorted Taym into the headset, "on the thing that is by definition ********' invisible. Master tactician."

He was trying to stick close to Bix, and in order to make it look like he was doing anything useful, he turned over a bit of debris with his foot, uncovering exactly nothing useful.

"Last time we popped out in fog like this something roared out of it pretty much instantly. What are we ********' looking for?"

"Don't go too far Jordan.." He was in the mirror maze and by himself. Bix stuck with Taym who seemed to have gotten the brunt of the invisible assailant's attentions.

"We'll know when we find it I guess. Or when it finds us. Pushing may be residual, or minor spooks that the big baddie has drummed up." He could not the annoyance in Taym's voice but there wasn't much he could do for him at this point. Thankfully Bix was in work-mode so he was much more focused than usual.

A flash in the corner of his eye led him to turn, touching Taym gently on the shoulder if only to indicate he'd moved. "Found another one."

He snapped a picture of another corpse with it's face torn off. He frowned, "Hot."

"Enlightenment," Jordan replied dryly to Taym's question.

He stepped out of the other end of the mirror maze, leaving the twisted, dripping reflections behind with a silent breath of relief. He moved slowly back towards where he'd last seen the others, but paused when he saw that the nearby carousel had begun to turn on its own, slowly but surely. "Do you guys see that moving?" he asked, and turned to look for them.

Beyond one of the fences, a kiddie coaster rattled a little as one of its cars rolled creakily down the track. Beside the ticket booth for the ferris wheel, another body slumped, dead-eyed and looking weirdly dry. Jordan took a picture of that as well, then turned as he heard an odd hiss off to one side.

Nothing was in evidence, and he looked back to where the ferris wheel rotated slowly on its own, and jumped a little when he realized that the body was now standing in front of the ticket booth, still as a statue. "Got a body that just changed positions," he said, and summoned Ferros. "In front of the ferris wheel."

Jordan's update had him summoning Fiona as well, and although she at least looked like a weapon now instead of a utilitarian tool, she was no more impressive than she had been before, and he was feeling the lack.

He waited a few tense seconds for some sort of fight to break out, and when nothing did, he tentatively peered into the depths of a ramshackle ticket booth, and immediately wished he hadn't.

He threw a rock at it. Nothing moved, so all he gained from that little exercise was desecrating a corpse.

"Got one here but it's not moving," he said grimly, feeling sick as he followed Bix's lead and took a photo. "Not yet, anyway. That's a hell of a silence. Updates, Roj--Jordan?"

He didn't like that the corpses were moving. He'd found another one too. He snapped another photo, face missing like the others.

"Bodies everywhere." He frowned. "You think they are moving on their own, or something unseen moving them for fun? And why the faces?"

Jordan moved forward and carefully poked the corpse with the pointed finial on Ferros's barrel. It collapsed like a puppet with its strings cut and didn't move again.

Doesn't taste like zombie, Ferros said.

"It collapsed and it's not getting up again," Jordan said into the headset, watching the corpse, still and tense. "Ferros says it doesn't taste like zombie, so tentative theory, it's something else moving them."

Something shoved him hard, and he almost stumbled onto the corpse. When he spun, there was nothing, of course. He looked back to the body hurriedly, and was only half relieved that it hadn't gotten back up. "Just got shoved by the invisible thing," he reported.

[41 - 60: You stumble for a second, as if someone, one of your teammates have shoved you, but when you look around, you notice that there is noone else in sight. ]
