The last attempt had gone... badly. A lack of strategizing, mostly. Waking up clawing for air had been an unsettling reminder of bad memories he kept pushed to the back of his head, behind more pressing concerns like whether he'd actually eat today and whether there was enough to keep him busy until he collapsed exhausted to sleep sitting up at his desk.
Right. Deep breaths. No panicking.

Mercifully, the trip down was uneventful.
Unfortunately, all this did was make him leery. It was too peaceful, too quiet.
At some point, things going well for Taym had begun to seem ominous. He could have blamed this on Deus, but truth told, this had been the case for quite some time before.

Sometimes finding a runestone was like finding a vein of gold. If you looked in the immediate area, you'd find more.

Not a LOT more. But some was better than none.
All the buoyant joy he'd felt on his first attempt had drained out of him completely by now. He should have known better than to ascribe to competency that which could be adequately explained by beginner's luck.

He felt it advisable not to stray too far from where he was looking until he'd managed to bump the number off thirteen. Luckily, fate provided.
