The Academy infirmary has been newly renovated. After the scare at Winter Ball and with rising numbers of students, the nursing staff wishes to ensure the health and safety of all members of the school.

On any given day, four sterile white beds line the walls, each with its own bedside table, curtain, and digital chart. Four more beds are collapsed against the wall in the event of emergency. All eight beds are on wheels, and can be moved as needed. There is an intercom system on the wall near the nurse's desk next to the lightswitch and thermostat.

There are windows on both ends of the room, overlooking the north and south ends of the Academy grounds. The windows behind the nurse's desk show off an impressive view of the front lawns, and at the right times the riding students can occasionally be seen. The windows behind the rows of beds look out on the lake and bell tower.

The nurse's desk sits at the head of the room, facing the beds. The double doors to the infirmary are to the desk's right, opening into the room. They are almost never locked, as someone on nursing staff is typically in the room at all times.

If the room IS locked and empty, Sister Eleanor can be found in room 305 or summoned by a doorbell-looking mechanism on the outside of the double doors.

Sister Eleanor returned to the infirmary after Mathieu made his announcement. The infirmary's complete overhaul still felt a little unfamiliar, but she suspected she'd soon know the ins and outs of every cabinet and drawer quite soon. Even the floors and windows were new... considering the entire building had collapsed last year, the infirmary looked to be in great shape.

She sat down at her desk and began looking over the files she'd pulled from the headmaster's computer. The student body this year was quite diverse... she'd have to do some research into the races she saw that she was unfamiliar with. That... might end up being a lot of research.

Eleanor leaned back in her chair, taking a count. There was no way to know who exactly would show up for flu shots. Or, for that matter, any shots. Should she need them, she had them, but until then they would stay where they were.

She returned her attention to the files. What on earth was a Spellweaver...?
But in the end, our choices make us.

Alice walked in quietly. She had a horrible headache, and didn't understand why. "Um, I'm sorry to bother you nurse, but...I don't feel so good" she said quietly, giving a bit of an akward smile. She wasn't used to talking to other races and certainly didn't understand their cultures so didn't know how to act around others. She stood by the desk, patiently waiting for the nurse to turn her attention to her.

"Oh!" Sister Eleanor set down her files, looking over the girl who'd walked in. "Please, have a seat. Let's see what we can do, hm?"

Eleanor stood up and directed the girl to the bed nearest to the desk, opposite the door. "So, what's troubling you?" she asked, turning back to her desk and picking up a clipboard with a blank intake form. "And do forgive me, but would you kindly give me your name and race? I haven't learned who everyone is yet, and it might take me a while," she explained.

Eleanor draped her stethoscope over her shoulders, letting it hang down her neck. "I've got flu shots and other vaccinations as well. Would you like me to administer those, or would you rather wait until you're feeling better?" she asked. All the inoculations were voluntary, but Eleanor always tried to encourage them. An ounce of prevention was worth a pound of cure, after all.
But in the end, our choices make us.

Alice sat down on the bed she was directed to. "Ever since I came I've felt very light headed and extremely warm" she replied. She took a deep breath to try and slow down the pounding in her head. "My name is Alice Fukawa. I'm an angel...and I'll take some flu shots" she said, not sure what a flu was. Sickness wasn't easily spread around in her home as it was down here, and they never really had much need for shots other than for special cases.

An angel? That was new. Hmm... "Ok, Alice. Would I be right in say you spend a lot of time at high altitudes? What you're describing might be due to the change in altitude and air pressure," Sister Eleanor explained. "The air might feel a little thicker to you now that you're at sea level. You're getting more oxygen in your body and you just need to adjust."

She rooted through a cabinet on the wall. "Altitude headache by itself shouldn't last more than a day, so if you're still not feeling one hundred per cent by tomorrow, please come and see me again before going to classes. If you're not feeling nauseous, I'll give you something to take until your body normalizes itself." Eleanor pulled out a clear bottle of small, white pills. "Here. Take one now and one again with dinner," she said, shaking two pills out and handing them to Alice.

Passing Alice a small paper cup of water to take the first pill with, she turned back to the cabinet and pulled out a flu shot kit. She pulled on the gloves and checked the syringe before picking up a cotton ball and some sterilizing fluid.

"All right, flu shot. Which arm, right or left?" she asked. "I usually recommend the dominant arm since you'll use it more, you're less likely to be sore at the injection site that way."
But in the end, our choices make us.

"Altitude..." she thought to herself, remembering a bit of what she had learned in science. It makes sense and seems completely normal. She took the white pill and swollowed it, drinking some water with it so the taste exits her mouth. She watched as the nurse took out a syringe. "Right please" she said, nervously looking away from the long needle, hoping it won't hurt.

Sister Eleanor smiled kindly, seeing Alice's nervousness. No matter how helpful, there was no denying that shots were mildly unpleasant at best, and painful at worst. "All right. Just a moment."

She blotted some sterilizing fluid on the cotton ball, and swiped it over a patch of skin on Alice's arm. "Ok. See that cabinet behind me?" she asked, picking up her syring. "Pretend there's a candle over there. Try to blow it out on three, all right?"

Eleanor readied her syringe and a clean white bandage, gently pinching at Alice's skin to ensure she wasn't injecting into muscle. "Ready? One. Two. Three."

She worked fast, poking the syringe into Alice's arm. The nurse injected the shot as quickly as her training would allow without making it painful, and plucked it out after a few seconds. "There."

Placing the syringe safely in the biohazardous waste lockbox, Eleanor unstuck the bandage from its wrapper and spread it over Alice's shot. "All right? You might feel a little sniffly for the next day or so, but that's better than a fully-blown flu, isn't it? Make sure you use your arm so you don't get sore."

Eleanor took off her gloves and turned back to Alice, marking off "flu shot" on Alice's intake form. "Is there anything else I can do for you today, Alice?"
But in the end, our choices make us.

Alice looked at the cabinet as the needle went into her arm. She winced slightly, but it didn't hurt as much as she thought it would. "Thank you" Alice said, and shoke her head. As far as she knew she wouldn't need anything else. "I better get going" she said, getting up off the white bed and headed off to the dining hall.

Sister Eleanor smiled and waved as Alice scuttled off to the dining hall. Well, one patient down. That's one fewer that'll come down with a flu this year.

She sat back down at her desk and wrote a few notes in Alice's contact log, writing up SOAP and reference notes. Angel. Lightheaded. Reverse alt sickness, potentially at risk for... She paused. If Alice was an angel, would that really put her at risk for anything? She supposed so, the altitude appeared to have an effect on her. What exactly did being an angel entail?

Eleanor frowned a bit, thinking. Perhaps she could run any questions she had by the rest of staff at the banquet. For now, she finished her notetaking and filed them away for future reference should Alice be back.

But in the end, our choices make us.

Robert ushered the princesses in before him and signaled for them to wait. "Sister Eleanor! How good to see you again!" he called cheerfully. He gave her a large smile and continued, "I trust you've had a relaxing summer?"

His expression darkened a bit and he turned to the girls. "It seems there was a situation in the dining room, the details of which I have yet to sort out. I was hoping you could take a look at that gash on Princess Maeza's head?" he asked.

Sister Eleanor looked up at Rob as he entered. "Good morning, Robert," she said, setting down her file. She smiled, gesturing to the redone infirmary. "Well, I wouldn't call it relaxing, per se."

She got up and listened. Two princesses, a "situation." "Goodness sake, the sun's barely up and already?" she lamented, directing both princesses to opposing beds. "Sit. What on earth happened?"

Eleanor peered closely at Maeza's head. "Oh, good. This is shallow. Sort of like a papercut, it likes to show off and it hurts but it's not that serious." Compared to the disasters she'd seen in the recent past, this was nothing. She pulled over her tray of triage equipment, and dabbed a sterile cotton ball into some neosporin. "This might sting a bit."

She cleaned up the gash and unstuck a clean, white bandage from its wrapper. Smoothing it over the gash, she surveyed the fairy princess. "Well, my dear, that appears to be all I can do for you."

But in the end, our choices make us.

Maeza stood straight as a board while Sir Robert got Sister Eleanor. The Night Fairy ignore the colorful princess next to her. She didn't say anything as the Sister looked at the gash on her head and ignored the slight stinging the medicine brought. It almost tickled, compared to everything last year. "Thank you Sister Eleanor," Maeza said, giving the lady a grateful smile. She walked back to Sir Robert and the other princess.

Robert stood next to Princess Haidee and waited as Sister Eleanor treated Princess Maeza. When the young Night Fairy walked back over, Robert thanked Sister Eleanor and ushered the princess out of the room. "Now, explain what happened in there," he said, giving both girls a hard look, but directing the request to Princess Haidee.

Haidee took a deep, shaky breath. The calmness of the infirmary was helping her to regain her composure. With a little huff, she began. "I was speaking with a prince," she began. "I had no chance to get his name, but we were speaking about colors."

Sister Eleanor raised a suspicious eyebrow, but said nothing to interrupt her. It looked as though Eleanor had some underlying idea of what had happened. Surely, that was impossible: the nurse had not been there.

"And in the middle of our conversation, this, this..." She looked Maeza up and down, trying to find a good word. "...this ruffian lands full on top of me and knocks me to the ground!"

Haidee held up her hands, displaying the bright purple and blue bruises on her pale skin. "Now I have been bruised and my day has been ruined."

That was a bit much and Haidee knew it, but drat if she was going to let that ruffian get away with what had happened.

"Let me see, Princess...?"

"Haidee."

Sister Eleanor took Haidee's hands, examining them. "This really..." Trying to remain sensitive to the clearly bothered princess, she took a breath. "I can fix this. Hang on."

She fetched a tube of something out of her triage kit. "Princess, this is a bruise gel," she explained. "Rub this on andβ€”"

Haidee violently shook her head. "Not a chance."

"Excuse me?" Eleanor asked, more confused than accusatory.

"I cannot use that. In my land we are barred from using chemicals. We use exclusively natural remedies," Haidee said fearfully. "I cannot break this law of my land."

Eleanor sighed. "Ok. Ok, I can fix it, but..." She looked to Rob. "Might take a bit."
But in the end, our choices make us.

Robert listened carefully as Princess Haidee told her story, glancing over at Princess Maeza occasionally. The Night Fairy looked far from sorry, and Robert knew why. He waited for the princess to finish speaking before saying, "Princess, I apologize for the poor introduction to Princess Maeza. Have Sister Eleanor look at your hands." While the sister and the princess spoke, Robert turned to Princess Maeza with a stern look. "I know what you did, and I am appalled that you would behave in such a manner. You're going to work in the kitchen today. Am I understood?" he said. The Night Fairy's face clouded with anger, but she nodded and turned stiffly and stalked to the kitchens.
