Kali followed Han through the maze of hallways, and finally to the kitchen. She walked stiffly, as she always did, where she was from. Her posture was perfect. Her eyes rarely wandered freely but stayed on Han or directly in front of her.

Han seemed uneasy, but she knew that she wasn't helping. She wasn't hungry. She had no money to pay for food but Xavier had assured her that it was all taken care of. She walked in silence and stood in the doorway of the kitchen. Her eyes wandered, taking everything in.

Han led Kali to the kitchen and noticed how she seemed stiff in her movements. Once they arrived at the kitchen, he opened a few cupboards and drawers, gathering the necessary dishes for their lunch. He found two plates, a butter knife, two glasses and two forks, just in case.

"You don't have to stand there," he said, when he looked up and noticed Kali standing in the doorway. "What do you like to eat? You can have anything that doesn't have a name on it. If there is something specific you want, and we don't have, then you put it on the list," he said pointing at the pad of paper that was stuck to the refrigerator door. "And someone will go get it."

Kali glared at Han, knowing full well that she didn't have to stand in the doorway. In fact, the doorway was the least safe area to stand, because her back was towards the hallway, where anyone could try to sneak by. Then again, she knew Han's power, standing with her back against a wall would prove just as dangerous.

Kali wandered to the tall counter and took a seat on the stool. "I don't like meat," she said plainly. "I will eat eggs, and drink milk. I have seen too much blood, in my lifetime, to like meat."

Her emerald eyes studied Han before glancing at the blank list, on the refrigerator door. It looked like a few sheets had already been torn off. She could only guess that someone had recently done the grocery shopping.

Han noticed the glare, but ignored it. He realized that he had just stated the obvious and she seemed like she was a pretty smart girl. Then, she said she didn't like meat. That didn't bother him. Han knew a lot of people who were vegitarians to some extent. But, her reason for not liking meat, bothered him.

She said that she had seen too much blood in her lifetime. He wondered what she meant by that, but knew from experience that the past of others were very touchy subjects and he didn't think that hers would be any different. Her attitude seemed to say that she only said what she wanted to and if she didn't want to tell you something, then she simply wouldn't.

"Okay, so no deli sandwiches," Han said with a nod. "There's some left over salad, in the fridge....I don't think anyone put meat on it." He turned to check and pulled out a large, clear bowl with a dark blue lid on it. He set it on the counter and opened the lid. "No meat...you can have something else if you would like."

Kali peered into the salad bowl and sighed, a small sigh, of relief. There was, in fact, no meat. The dark green leaves of spinach were decorated by bright, red, cherry tomatoes, shredded carrots, black olives, crutons and some shredded parmesan.

"Salad is great," she said. It looked so good and far better than the disgusting trays where she had lived before. No one, there, cared that she didn't eat meat.

She sat at one of the bar stools and felt her injured side, where Han would not be able to see. She felt something rip and she knew what had happened. She hid the pain and worry well. She felt the warmth of her blood begin to seep into the white bandages that bound her side.

"Do you like it here," she asked Han. "Do they give you freedom?"

She thought that now would be a good time to see, exactly what she got herself into. Although, she wasn't given much of a choice on what she would do. Either way she was staying, this choice was a little more promising than sitting in a cell.

Han smiled and traded one of the plates for a bowl, when Kali said that the salad was fine. He scooped some salad into the bowl and handed her the bowl and a fork. "Dressing's in the fridge," he said as he put the lid back on the bowl and returned it to it's place on the shelf, in the refrigerator.

He began to make himself a deli sandwich, with contents that he took from the stainless steel refrigerator. "Freedom? Yeah, we have freedom. Not many of us go out of the school, because there are a lot of humans that would like to see us killed. We have field trips outside of the school...other than that, we have free roam around the school. We can do anything we want, as long as we follow the rules. Most of us are pretty, well left alone. Our parents don't come with us so we learn responsibility and how to handle ourselves. I like it here..."

He plated his creation and took a seat by Kali, after he put the remainder of the contents away.
" So, where ya from?"

Kali ignored the salad dressing and began to eat the colorful salad that sat before her. She watched Han make his sandwich, and listened to him talk about the freedoms that the students had and didn't have. Either way, the mansion was, simply, a bigger cage than what she was used to.

Everything seemed like a cage to her. A building was simply a cage within a cage of the property lines. That was placed in a bigger cage of the city, then the state, then the country, continent, world. Everything was a cage. Humans had freedoms to be whoever they wanted and go wherever, without the fear of being hated. Granted, Kali had certainly given the humans to hate her and mutant kind. She had given mutants a good reason to hate her and human kind. Either way, if anyone found out what she was, she was dead, no matter which side found out.

Xavier knew. She was pretty sure that their Dr. Jean Gray knew, but beyond that, no one had seen her memories. No one had seen her mark. Scott and Logan may have an idea, they weren't stupid but she assumed that outside of them, there probably weren't many mutants who knew what she was. Neither mutant nor human, but a combonation of their worst nightmare, the product of chaos and mother of destruction.

Her mind thought of her wound, and she wondered if she would be able to take care of it. She tried to calculate the amount of blood that she had lost and decided that her body wouldn't have had enough time to replace all of it. The trickling of the red river that seeped out of her side was the hourglass of time that she had left, before a total blackout. Blood...her head spun and she suddenly felt sick.

"That depends," she said, in answer to Han's question. "I've been a lot of places. Where I call home? Well...I haven't known one for a long time. The last home I had was in Arizona. That might answer your question."

Kali put her right hand up to her head which was still spinning. Her face paled and her heart beat faster. The small trickle of blood turned to a weeping river. She could feel it.

Han took a couple bites out of his sandwich and watched Kali eat her salad. He smiled, finding it odd that she ate her salad without any dressing. She seemed content by it though. Her mind seemed to wander somewhere and her face hardened. He wasn't sure why, but he left her to her thoughts while he ate and visited his own.

He thought of his sister and wondered when she would write back to him. He hoped that she still had the strength to. He prayed that she was getting better that, perhaps, they found a cure, or a way to slow down the process until they found one. He looked forward to her letters and he knew that she looked forward to receiving his.

Han watched Kali eat. Her face seemed, less hard and more concerned as she was lost in her own thoughts. She played it off well by answering his question.

He nodded. "I moved around a lot too," he said. "It is difficult to call a place home, that you aren't attached to."

Kali's face paled. She looked like a ghost. She didn't look good at all.

"Are you okay," Han asked. "I can get you to the infirmary in a matter of seconds...my power..." He glanced around for the nearest wall.

Kali tried to calm the spinning in her head.

Water!

"I'm fine," she grumbled as she gripped her empty glass. She stood up and held herself steady as she planned her next steps to the sink. She filled her glass as she watched Han who was searching around. "I know you can get me there in mere seconds, but I don't need the infirmary."

She shut off the faucet and wondered if she could last through the rest of the tour. She closed her eyes, sipped the water and slowed her heartbeat by sheer will. The out pour of blood slowed back to a trickle and she felt safer. As long as she could keep her heart rate normal, and as long as the tour was short, she would be able to make it.

Suddenly, she felt a shock in her spine. All of her nerves felt as if someone had just tazed her.

"s**t," she mumbled just before she fell to the ground. Her glass dropped and shattered on the floor. The water puddled and found it's quick way to her bandages. Her head hit the tile floor and her world went black.

Han decided that the wall under the counter would probably be the best one to use.

"You don't look that great," he told Kali when she said that she was fine and only needed water. She was at the sink before he could protest. He was out of his chair and then everything seemed to happen so fast.

She took a drink. She closed her eyes. She looked a lot better and then, she fell as she swore under her breath. It was all too quick for Han to react before her head hit the floor.

Frozen with fear and uncertainty, Han wondered if he should move her or if he should bring in someone from the infirmary.

"Yeah, you said it," he said in agreement to her swearing. He bent down, and scooped her into his arms, with surprising ease. She was a lot lighter than he expected. Then, he moved to the cupboards and touched the wall with his right hand. A dark blue portal opened, tall enough to accommodate him and wide enough that Kali's limp body would fit through, as well. He thought of the infirmary and saw it on the other side.

Kali walked through the portal, and back into the kitchen. Her mood was not lightened, in the least. In fact, she was furious. She was told that she was not allowed to kill, but killing had solved most of her problems. She wanted to kill Han and not in a metaphoric way, she literally wanted to kill him.

Kali paced in front of the high counter, where her salad bowl rested. She heard Han's footsteps and immediately turned on him. "What the Hell was that about? Why couldn't you just let me be? You had to go and bring Beast into it and now he isn't going to stop asking questions. You don't know what you've done!"

Her eyes were fully engulfed by bright flames, at this point. She was trying to keep herself under control, if for nothing else, so she wouldn't have to revisit Dr. McCoy and get her stitches redone.

Han stepped through the portal after throwing Hank a rather worried look and it closed behind him. He didn't even have time to breathe before Kali turned on him, eyes flaming.

He wasn't going to lie, she was kinda pretty when she was angry, but maybe that was just the fire. She was also very scary when she was angry and right now, her anger was directed at him.

"Alright, my mistake," Han said, calmly as he grabbed a bag of potato chips and began to eat a few. "I'm sorry for saving your life. I could have left you to bleed out on the floor, but I didn't. Next time I will."

He walked towards the counter and picked up his empty glass as he headed towards the refrigerator. "Those wounds were pretty nasty, what'd you do?"

He knew that he was prying but if he could keep her talking, he hoped that she would calm down. It worked with some people. It worked with his uncle when his temper flared. As long as he could think, he was dangerous but if you kept his mind on other things, it worked to your advantage. Not many people learned that..

Kali followed Han with her eyes. Her face darkened when he said that he saved her life. She really wanted to kill him. Her left hand turned into a fist and she tried to fight off the urge to punch his lights out.

"You didn't save my life," she seethed. "I know how to mend myself. I would have been fine to the end of your little tour and then I would have done it myself. I wasn't bleeding that bad unless my heart rate picked up." Her eyes watched him constantly. Her mind was racing, again.

Why did it always do that? It was impossible for her to stop thinking. She wondered why he was trying to keep her talking. She didn't hit her head, she wasn't going to pass out again...

"I got in a fight," she answered carefully. "Stabbed in the side, the blade grazed my arm. The arm is nothing, the side is a hindrance, nothing more."

She moved around to where she remembered that she dropped the glass of water. Her hand lit with flame and she knelt down to clean up her mess, placing the inflamed hand, on the puddle of water while the other hand began to pick up the shards of glass. She was still ready to fight.

Han poured himself a glass of grape soda and wandered back to the high-counter. He noticed that Kali was watching his every move and he didn't doubt that she knew how to fight. She would have to know something about fighting, with that attitude.

He smirked when she tried to argue that he didn't save her life. It sounded like the 'hero' image wouldn't work on her. It was strange. He was attracted to most girls he saw, but Kali was different and he wasn't sure if he liked her simply because she was new, or if it was a whole different ball game.

"A fight," he said with a nod. "That had to be a long blade, even to go through you. You are lucky no major organs were skewered. And the arm on the same side," he paused. He wanted to ask who she fought, but he had a feeling that would only add fuel to the fire. He didn't want to pry. Not now. She was new and already on the defense without his help. "At least you're okay. "

He glanced at a bowl of fruit on the counter, grabbed an apple and handed it to the red head. "Here," he said with a smile. "In case you get hungry on the tour."
