Taym had bet it had never occurred to the dainty trainer to back out of the competition after she'd gotten hurt. It hadn't. Not until he'd said something, but even after the idea had been planted she hadn't made any move to contact Bix to take her name out of the tournament. Maybe she should have. Maybe it would have been the wisest course, but Peyton had always been stubborn, and she'd never once walked away from a fight. Standing on the edge of the muddy field, she had to wonder about her self. < It's called tenacity, Halfpint. You got this, even one handed.> Pale lips pressed in a thin line, eyes narrowing down to the sea of mud and filth. She hadn't bothered to bring her coat, she didn't want it getting dirty, but now that she saw what they were going to be expected to fight in it was probably a good idea to remove anything she didn't want ruined, or at the very least unwearable until the power was back. Over shirt, hat, boots and socks all got removed, folded, and set somewhere safe. She stood with her toes in the mud, hair back and braided, and weapon summoned and at her sides. Her opponent was an unknown. She'd never met him. Well, she'd meet him today.

To date, Ripley had only been in one fight. The whole mess with that giant monster didn't quite count in his opinion, as it was less fighting and more get thrown at a giant monster and hope you do something. So really, using Trainee to describe him was probably putting it nicely. He had never met his opponent before either, which was both a good thing and a bad thing; good because he was actually meeting someone, and bad because, well, they could be at his level of trainee or they could be an almost-intermediate trainee. Either way there was too much opportunity for a bad impression, and he was admittedly a little nervous.
That was, of course, until he saw the muddy field they were to battle on. That was a good enough distraction.
"Well, this is...something." Ripley murmured, grimacing as he felt the squish of mud under his shoes. Like Peyton he had left his nicer clothing at home, instead opting for more comfortable clothing for now. Mostly because he wasn't sure what to expect, but largely because he didn't want to get his nice uniform dirty before the power came back. So, like Peyton, he was glad he did. He didn't imagine walking away from this with any piece of him clean.
His gaze eventually trailed to the petite girl opposite him on the field. "Peyton, I assume? I'm Ripley. It's nice to meet you...you know, under the circumstances." The pale haired trainee pushed his glasses back up his nose, looking back down at the mud as if considering something important. Namely the fate of his glasses.
"So uh...I guess we just...pretend there's a starting bell?" He hummed lightly as if making an awkward joke, summoning Wilhelm and holding the two-toned sword at the ready.

Something was one way to put it. If there had been another girl across from her Peyton would have assumed the mud had been strategically placed. But the pale haired youth across from her was not a girl, so that theory was moot. She blinked at the bespectacled young man and his two-toned sword, then smiled. Perhaps the friendliest smile she'd ever afforded someone standing across from her in a fighting ring. "Nice to meet you." Her head tilted minutely at his hesitance, and a little of the warmth leaked out of delicate features. "We just begin." Teeth flashed, bright and white, and she was darting forward, kicking up mud as she ran full out towards the other trainee. She was one of those almost-intermediate trainees that he was right to be worried about. A Sun no less. She charged forward with no hint of hesitation in her, closing the gap between them in a manner of seconds. < You can do this.> I know I can.

"I thought so." Ripley murmured, still looking over the girl and her weapon from where he was. He didn't see an obvious weapon, but it seemed like there was something on her hands; perhaps that was it? Maybe she was the close combat sort? Probably best to keep her at a distance then. They just kind of started apparently, which was easy enough to understand. All he had to do was...dodge this oncoming attack?! Peyton ran at him with a shocking speed and Ripley moved on reflex, swatting her side with Wilhelm's flat edge while scampering back, trying to keep some semblance of distance between them.

They had barely started when Bix happened by the fight. And he froze.
"OH. MY. GOD."
He grabbed the string that roped off the arena. "OH MY GOD GUY.. GIRL.. GUY HEY GUY!! ARE YOU ALBINO ??? PALEBROS FOR LIIIIFE."
Ripley would probably be hunted down after this.

Taym had envisioned a certain... milkmaidliness when he'd proposed the idea of a mudpit. Peyton was not what he would have selected, and Ripley damn sure wasn't. But he'd promised Peyton he'd come watch, and he was vaguely optimistic that round two might procure more... you know...
He didn't look, outwardly, even remotely worried by Peyton's slightly handicapped state, the image of slouching, pokerfaced nonchalance with his hands in his pockets and a toothpick in his mouth. A toothpick he nearly choked on when Bix's screeching suddenly erupted at his ear.

Peyton was really starting to dislike large swords. Admittedly this one wasn't as large as Gir, but still.
The flat of the blade smacked into her side, pushing her off course, and she slid a little in the mud before she could correct the change and come at him again. Her right fist went back and she darted forward, past his arm, and aimed a low right hook at his side. The mud was sucking at her feet, slowing her down. It made it hard to move.
But it made it hard for him to move as well.

Finished with her own battle, and still damp from having jumped into the ocean after a very muddy match, Kat found herself coming across another mud pit battle. Recognizing one of the opponents faces, Kat stopped to watch a moment and cheer the fellow Sun on.
"Come on, Peyton!"

Suddenly, someone was yelling at him. In the short span of time it took him to glance to the side at the pale Hunter, Peyton had gotten much closer. In the immediate aftermath of the low right hook he slipped in the mud, managing to somehow kick her in his majestic and graceful plummet to the squishy, squelching ground.
"--Not the time, buddy!" He cried out to the pale one, already trying to scramble to his feet and reclaim his footing.

Well thank you, Bix.
Peyton heard Kat as well, and she knew, without seeing, that Taym was there. He'd promised after all. So even as the flailing kick to her high in the stomach, she was grinning. There were people there for her, cheering her own. It bolstered her confidence, rekindled a little of that lost love of the fight.
Ripley was down, and Peyton could have taken advantage of that, but she didn't. Instead she reached down to grab the other trainee's hand so she could jerk him back to his feet. Perhaps a little less gently then she could have, but hey, this was a fight. "No lying down on the job, Bro." When he was up she took a few steps backwards, watching, waiting.

He tensed as Peyton leaned down, knowing he was at a complete disadvantage on the ground, but to his surprise she merely took his hand and moved to help him stand. "Err, thanks." He stared at her owlishly for a moment, thrown off. That was awfully nice of her, considering they were in a competitive battle. Since she gave him some space he felt comfortable enough to take a second or two to regain his own footing before darting forward, sword swinging.

Solomon wasn't sure why he was there. All he'd known was something was going down and he now needed to be a part of it - the fact Peyton was there? Totally a silver lining to watch the girl prove (maybe only to herself) that one arm down was totally not a big deal.
However, his idea of cheering was to give awful advice at this point in time - "JUST POKE HIM IN THE EYES!"
Solomon was the most helpful ever.

It wasn't so much nice, as sporting.
"Stay on your feet, next time you're down it won't go that way." It was warning, but her voice was pleasant enough as she brought her hands up, the right significantly higher then the left, but then that wouldn't be surprising for anyone that knew what handicap Peyton was operating under at the moment.
A voice from the sidelines called out some rather awful advice, but it was so very familiar. Heat crawled up tanned cheeks, teeth pressing together before she made her move, reclaiming the space she'd given him to bring her spike tipped knuckles around at his shoulder.
<Ooo, look who showed up to cheer you on.>
Shut the ******** up, Warrick!

"No more mud baths. Got it." The Trainee nodded, the last few syllables a little winded. "I'll keep that in mind..."
"....AND THAT'S A TERRIBLE IDEA!" Ripley sputtered in a panic. He needed both of his eyes, thank you very much! This time he more or less saw the spiked punch coming, and instantly brought an arm up to try and smack away the offending hand, even if to avoid getting the full brunt of the spikes. The blow still landed, but he knew it could have been much, much worse.
Using his own momentum he swung his free hand out, aiming to punch her shoulder despite still holding his sword.
