Nathaniel Calabri, or 'Nate' as he likes to be called, comes from the Karanese District, where his family has lived since his parents had been married. Along with himself, he has an elder brother who is 20 named Stuart and a twin sister named Rosalyn. His father Jacob and mother Alicia own the local Baker's shop in town. Nate's brother and father never got along very well, and when Nate was 13, his brother left the family one morning early to join the Military. Surprised and angered by this, Jacob forbade anyone in their family to every leave the city again. As the weeks went by, the Calabria Patriarch became stricter and more possessive with his children.

It was two years later when everything went down hill. One night when he was trying to fall asleep, Nate heard the sounds of crying coming form his sister's room.Quietly, he went to check on his sister only to see a horrible sight that would scar him. His father was attempting to makes advances on Rosalyn, holding her down to the bed. Nate burst through the door and attempted to stop his father from the sexual assault. Using all his strength, He managed overpowered his father and save Rosalyn. Rushing out of the house with her, they decided that they had to find a new place to live from now on.

With their old home deemed too dangerous, the twins decided that they would head to the Inner Wall, where they knew their brother was stationed. Over that 2 year time, the twins would send letter back and forth with their brother. They had found out that he had become a member of the Military Police, and lived with in a nice home with his newlywed wife. It was there that they were welcomed with open arms by Stuart. There was only one issue: Stuart only had one spare room in his home. Knowing that there was no way he could allow Rosalyn to return home, he told Stuart to give the room to her. He stated that he too would join the Military so that all three of them could live together peacefully.

However things wouldn't go exactly as planned. While Nate was a strong and smart cadet, a field exercise gone wrong nearly cost him his entire career. A Titan that had made it through a destroyed and abandoned city had managed to wander onto the training that fateful day, ransacking the Cadets, as well as devouring 10. While he wasn't killed like the others, he did end up losing nearly a third of his left leg to the Titan. He was then moved immediately to a hospital, where he would recover for a number of weeks. Despite all of this, his scores still managed to gain him the rank of 16th overall, though he believes he would have made Top Ten if it weren't for the surprise attack.

One day nearly a year and a half later, a member of the Scouting Legion visited him in the Hospital with a proposition; He was a doctor who wanted to use Nate as a test subject to a new invention he made: A prosthetic leg that was built to be aerodynamic, and that would allow him not only to walk again, but to fight. The only catch was that he had to once again go through Cadet Training.. Nate agreed to the conditions without a second thought. Back to the present day, 2 years after the incident and six months walking: Nate has finally finished his rehab and is now re-entering the Cadet's Corps. While he is still wary of others and his disability, he believes it to be more of a second chance than a curse.t.
