Nevada blinked at the life techs.
She blinked once, then twice. Maybe a third time. They were asking a half blind girl to go out, finish a training segment on Argus trainings with a trainee and come back with its findings?
Like she didn't have enough to do with all the mission reports from death flooding over to the mist team, as well as most of the team already working in life labs and pods to make sure the power sources remained stable.
And her partner was someone she didn't know that she had to go collect?
Using what little phone battery she had left, she sent a text message to the trainee and fired up one of the computers. She'd have to focus on a lot to get this training done.

He left her waiting for a while--not out of intention, but simply because he had his phone off most of the time. It was almost entirely luck--and the head's up he'd gotten that he could expect to make himself useful today--that he caught the text as soon as he did. Making himself useful was all he wanted, at the moment. With the power down and DIANA off the table and his cigarettes on a rigorous self-imposed rationing schedule, Taym was a jittery nervous wreck of a human being by now and desperately craved something to occupy his time and keep his thoughts from wandering. He tried to straighten himself up, to focus, to look nonchalant, but the man that slunk tomcat-style into the Argus testing labs looking for this Nevada person was outwardly every bit the mess he suspected he was. He had not helped himself out by relinquishing shaving in the currently-dark dorm showers and having, as a consequence, the sort of mangy stubble that was just toeing the line of unacceptable beard. And there was a computer and the back of someone's head, so he coughed meaningfully to get her attention.

With the computer set up, the headset prepared and the mic all checked, Nevada had taken to waiting for this Taym to appear. Which in fact took a bit, but it was easy to wait for him. Among the life labs, some tech had gone through and done various small computer games.
She was in a very intense set of solitaire when Taym came in.
"Just a second Handsome, I am almost done." She moved a card over and sat back in satisfaction as the computer finished her moves for her. "Solitaire."
The chair swiveled around, revealing a small petite brunette with green eye and a bandage covering her left eye.
"Taym?" She studied him, sensing a familiarity...."Oh....Amity!" She pointed at him, smiling. "How you doing Handsome?"

The fact that his expression did not actually change said more about his reaction to that greeting than any twist of his mouth possibly could have. That stoicism was a worse giveaway than a flinch. That was the expression of a man whose face just shut down. So no matter what he was about to say, it was pretty obvious that he remembered her at least a little. "Taym," he said. "Not Amity." Somewhat cruelly, he took in the bandage and added: "You must have something wrong with the good eye, too, if you're going to bandy that word around."

She watched his face completely shut down, resting her chin in her hand, elbow to folded knee over her other leg. It wasn't hard smile at him, she didn't mind the ones that shut down, she didn't mind the ones that didn't respond.
"Taym with a few memories of Amity, and pretty sure I am one of them." She waited a beat, "Pretty sure you told me that in the tear too." Pausing, and trying not to be self conscious of the eye comment anyways.
"Regardless of my sight, and the worse wear all of us are under, You're still handsome." She continued to watch him, a lazy smile playing her features. "but that's not why I am here. Today I am your partner for Argus. And just so you know....I will be the one guiding you." She tapped the headset.
"Do you need anything else before you go out on the field?" Her fingers tapped her cheek.

He held out one hand for the headset, and the fingers were skinny and wracked with a tremor that seemed more physiological than nervous. He had an odd and aggressive way of meeting someone's eye, like he didn't know when the actual time to look away was. It was like watching a stray dog stare someone down. "They gave me a run-down," he said roughly. "So was their decision to put you in the driver's seat in your condition a cruel joke against me or a cruel joke against you?" It went against every instinct he had not to repay her comments in kind, so he defaulted to a sort of callous bullying.

She handed the headset over, still smiling at him. Any nervousness on her end was well masked by the lazy droop in her eye and her relaxed features. She wouldn't allow her tenseness over the comments show.
Especially since she was well aware how her eye affected some of her capabilities as a hunter.
"Lucky for you Handsome, My superior doesn't take jokes very well, so putting me here is probably a way to test that I continue the good work I have been doing." She let the smile fade before swiveling in the chair. "But we can pretend it's on you and a test to see how well you cope with instructions from a beautiful woman like myself. Or how you do under pressure...."
Oh and she added in,
"Be careful on your left side handsome...It's my weak spot."
She wouldn't let the comments bother her no. She would just have to prove to him that she could do this. Firing up the computer, she prepared visuals and then turned the headset on.Quote: -Bzzt- Testing 1, 2, 3. Let me know when you hit rendezvous point and I'll send the Argus out Taym.

He spared her his chatter until he'd made his way to the appointed spot, nerves rising. He'd been a pretty thorough ******** at everything he'd tried so far and was having grim visions of the same. The words shields are down were at the forefront of his thoughts, but he shoved them away. Quote: Is this thing on? Ready when you are. You've gotta work out a new nickname for me, by the way. Handsome isn't going to fly, especially now that I know you call everyone that. Well, she had said it before she'd known who it was.

That was dripping with sarcasm. He maneuvered through the underbrush, making a snide aside in his head to Fionnghal about her lack of a cutting edge that got a prim silence in return, and had laid eyes on the gleaming disc of the Argus when he was interrupted. Nevada moved the disk as soon as he got it out, circling around the hunter since that's all she could do. A sound escaped her much like a snort. It was too early in the game for him to worry about this right? She hoped that he wouldn't fall under the pressure......Quote: Oh those things. - A pause - Then I guess I should assure you Cupcake, that while I am severely lacking in perfect vision standards, I can probably princess carry you out of the jungle if you wish... There was a vague thumping sound as Taym shook a shadowling off his leg like it was a rabid squirrel and sent it flying (causing, presumably, a tiny orange dot to go sailing across the screen). At least that was satisfying. The discomfort he had with having a weapon in his head was apparently nothing compared to the discomfort he had with a weapon in his hands.

A final squishing, skittering noise, and a return to peace. Quote: ... Where were we? And are we sure this wasn't a joke? He gave himself a shake, but he didn't desummon his weapon. Presumably she could see that too, the runic signature of Fionnghal a teal sliver among the foliage. Whatever they did next, he'd prefer to be armed in advance this time.
