Tiger Balm's shop was located down an alleyway. The door was held open today, trying to coax in both sunshine and visitors. Various dried herbs hung from the ceiling and let off a pungent aroma and piles of containers, boxes and cupboards covered most of the floor. Every table surface was covered in miscellaneous items. Tiger Balm hummed as she fluttered around the cluttered space, darting from one side of the front room to the other as she inspected her wares. Her stocks of ginseng were growing low and that would need to be addressed soon.

Hard Truths was not fond of alleyways; partially because of the stigma of shadiness that clung to them, but mostly because they were just so filthy. He wouldn't have entered this one if he hadn't had good reason - very good reason.
He'd been told that he could find Tiger Balm there, and while their first meeting hadn't been exactly friendly, he needed her assistance and knowledge in herbs for what he had in mind. As he drew nearer, the strong, sharp scents from the shop intensified and he could hear the combination of fluttering wings and a humming voice. Peering in, he knocked his hoof on the open door to get her attention, clearing his throat before addressing the filly.
"I'm looking for some herbs," he began, looking around to avoid her gaze as he specified, "For tea."

Tiger Balm came down to earth in front of Hard Truths, giving him a quick look up and down to assess his well-being. "Sure thing." Their first meeting might not have been much, but she remembered him... in a very neutral sort of way. Right now, he was just a customer in need of assistance. "What for?" She asked, presuming by the way he refused to look directly at her, that his particular ailment was a little embarrassing. Constipation, maybe?

Though he entered with an outwardly civil attitude, the colt's easily-provoked temper flared a bit with impatience. "Didn't you just hear me?" he snapped, looking up this time to glare at the flutter. "I said, 'for tea'! You do know what that is, don't you?"
It wasn't Tiger's fault; in fact, Truths had been somewhat impressed with the filly's knowledge and curiosity during their last encounter. Still, he wasn't one to distribute praise freely and his source of irritation at the moment actually had very little to do with Tiger Balm at all.
Yes, he suffered from an ailment, and yes, it was embarrassing, but it was not one that could be cured with any known herb. But Truths would be damned before he'd admit to anyone that he'd become infatuated with a certain tea-loving filly.
"Hmm...so you run this little shop by yourself?" Realizing quickly that he would need to be nicer if he was going to get Tiger's help, though, Truths attempted to annul his sharp retort with a rare, if grudging, compliment. "Not bad for a young filly." Well, the closest to a compliment he was likely to get just then.

She nearly tossed him right out of her shop. He can come to her for help and he dared give her sass? Tiger Balm’s nose flared and she stared at him with a look that promised some serious pain if he didn’t reign in his attitude. She ignored his compliment entirely, not even bothering to acknowledge the obvious attempt at flattery. "Let’s try this again, what is the tea for? Are you sick? Is it just for a pick-me-up? Tea can do a lot of different things. Unfortunately though, I can’t help you with your personality issues."

There was that feisty attitude again. Unladylike as it was coming from the flutter filly, Truths supposed he deserved it this time. After a minute or so of looking everywhere but at Tiger's face, he finally sighed and conceded.
"It's for another phony," he confessed. "Her name is Jasmine Tea. I wanted to have a special picnic for her with fresh ingredients she could use to make any tea she liked. She's...rather fond of tea," he added a little unnecessarily.
He snorted at the comment regarding his personality. "I could have guessed that," Truths answered haughtily, inspecting a jar of dried something. "How could you have possibly hoped to improve my personality when clearly you have so many faults of your own?" He hated to think so, but it seemed they were a lot alike in many ways.

"Do you want me to kick your a**?" She asked him with an exasperated roll of her eyes. I should send him packing, she thought to herself but instead lifted herself into the air and over to where she kept her tea ingredients. After a brief time inspection of her wares, the Flutter perched herself on the nearby table. "You do realise that my teas aren't meant for first dates or a bit of afternoon delight. There is an actual fancy tea store down the street that does all that berry, rose, honeydew flavour nonsense. They even have one called Cleopatra’s Cantaloupe," she scoffed. "Usually how this works is you come in and tell me you've got a problem and I go ‘hey, I can fix that’ and put together a mix specifically for you that will probably taste like crap but hey, we can’t everything and then you feel better and I have some extra money in my pocket."Tiger Balm idly brushed dust off a nearby book and after a good amount of annoyed glowering, decide to relent. "But since you said she likes to mix her own teas, I suppose I can give you some of my stock. Chamomile, cinnamon, dried ginger, ginseng, hibiscus, rooibus... that sort of thing."

An amused smirk made its way to the unicorn's face as he turned his head to regard the flutter. "I'd enjoy watching you try." Feisty as she was, with such a small, petite structure and delicate-looking limbs, he had a hard time imagining her 'kicking his a**', as she put it.
"What I want isn't tea," he reiterated slowly as she came to alight on a table. "I'm looking for fresh ingredients for tea. And, charming as your wares undoubtedly are," he murmured, experimentally tapping a dried root of some kind, "the last thing I would call them is 'fresh'."
"Let's try this once more, shall we?" Truths seemed in faintly better spirits as he slightly echoed the flutter's earlier words, perhaps cheered by Tiger Balm's lively conversation or otherwise relieved she didn't seem like she was going to judge or mock him for his attempts to please a girl. "I have a problem, yes, and you can fix it. But not with anything in here. Or the fancy tea store down the street." Mentally, though, he filed that little piece of information away for future reference. It would be handy, especially if it turned out Jasmine preferred pre-made tea of various kinds after all.
He nodded toward the door through which he had come. "I'd hoped you would accompany me to the edge of the forest to pick some fresh herbs there. Normally I wouldn't desire assistance, but given your expansive knowledge of plants and their uses, I thought it might be better to ask you along. Make sense?"

The look she gave him clearly she suggested that despite her size, she’d give him an a**-kicking he’d never forget. “They’re not 'fresh', because tea, if you haven’t noticed, usually consists of dried herbs. That increases their potency and flavour.” Tiger Balm gave a frustrated sigh. She did not relish the idea of stomping around the forest with this annoying male, no matter how cute she thought his attempt to please his lady friend was. “Making tea with fresh herbs is entirely different game. Mint does well, but many others need to be dried first. Of course, you can make green tea out of just fresh tea leaves and I have a few plants of my own out the back.” Maybe, she thought as she gave him a sour smile, she could lose him out there. “But if you really want to waste some time, I’ll take you.”

"...Well, maybe I wanted to try something new," the colt countered, his tone betraying his uncertainty. He hadn't seemed to have been counting on the idea that dried herbs would be better for tea-making than fresh ones. "Have you tried making tea with fresh plants? Dandelion leaves, maybe?" Those were edible, right? He couldn't recall that well, but he dearly hoped they were. This filly didn't seem the sort likely to let him ever live down a momentary lapse of judgement.
Oh, good. She knew some. She may have had a stubborn streak and a nasty attitude, but at least her intelligence was reliable. He grunted in approval. "We can start 'out the back', then, wherever that is. I don't know how you leave in this dump of a back alley, but I guess if you enjoy surrounding yourself with smelly, dried dead things..." His voice trailed off as he continued to grumble to himself. "What other plants can you use besides mint and tea leaves?" He hesitated. "And why are they called 'tea leaves'? Are they used for all teas?"

"Think about it. You go out, pick a dandelion and drop it in some hot water. What do you think the result would be?" Tiger Balm tapped her hoof impatiently, but she was making an effort to give him the information he wanted. "You can eat dandelions, but is it good in tea or not? Certainly not fresh."In a quick flutter of wings, she left her perch and landed in front of him. "Tea is generally made with tea leaves, which is why it’s called tea in the first place. More often than not you’ll have tea leaves in your blend. Of course, there are variations now which don’t… most of mine are mixes of other herbs and plants, without the tea, since their purpose isn't to be tea as such, but to help heal an illness."She inhaled sharply, reigning in her temper. "And yes I enjoy surrounding myself with smelly, dried dead things and if you insult my home and shop again there is nothing on this earth that will save your miserable a**."Kitomyx QUICK TEA RESEARCH WIKIPEDIA HELP

Truths seemed to share her impatience, but instead of tapping his hoof, he simply glowered. "I wouldn't know. I don't drink tea. Jasmine does."
He followed her with his eyes as she landed and continued to elaborate on teas and tea leaves. Neither of them really seemed to want to deal with the other just now, but the unicorn was determined to do what he had to for Jasmine's surprise picnic. She was the only thing keeping him there to deal with the angry, fussy, feisty flutter.
"Suit yourself," he grumbled in response, biting back a retort to her threat. "But I need something unfamiliar to her. Something she isn't likely to have in that tea-making kit she carries around with her. I've heard some people make their own brews that are different every time, but they have to have an idea of what they can and can't use, right? And then I've heard about some unusual things like tea that changes color. What do you know of that? I want to - " He hesitated, grimacing. "I want to impress her."Ruriska (( XD You can do it! "For someone who doesn't even drink tea, you’re spending a lot of time correcting me about it."Tiger Balm rolled her eyes. "You know girls aren't that picky, right? They’re impressed if a guy just tries to make them happy. You could climb a mountain for some rare tea plant but in the end, she’d be happy with something from the local store, as long as she knew you were thinking about her."She grabbed her satchel from beside the door, putting it over her shoulders. "Whatever. Come on, we’ll walk and talk." She pushed past him out the door, still talking. "Sure tea can change colour, depending on what’s in it. There’s also these ‘blooming’ teas. It’s packaged so that once it hits the water, it blooms like a flower. I can’t make that sort of thing though."Nobody could ever say Tiger Balm would stand in the way of true love.

"That right?" the unicorn asked, his mouth turning up in a crooked grin at her eye-roll. "...Very well; I'll keep that in mind."
That didn't mean he didn't still want to go, however. Following after the flutter, he listened as she led the way. "Blooming teas, hm? That sounds interesting to look into...thank you. I'm sure what you do know how to make will be good enough, though."

"Yeah, well, let’s get this over with."She was quiet after that, refusing any further conversation and they hurried into the forest. It was only then she began smiling, ignoring Hard Truths as she fluttered from one bush to another, inspecting the multitude of plants that grew there.
