It's a simple book.
Bland cover, spotted with tomato sauce
and smelling of oregano and freshly caught fish.

Kept in one of the pockets of his large coat,
Michael nearly always has little log book on him.

It's a well used spiral spined diary,
each page soft like pressed flower petals.
There is however a masterfully crafted 3 chamber lock
placed intricately across the diary's front,
the key around her neck.

The diary itself lies in a locked box within her closet,
that key also dangling from her neck.
It sits on the floor in the back beneath her finest gowns,
the ones from her time as a Cordova.

Her diary lays on her bedside table along with a small vintage alarm clock and an old claw-footed lamp.
A long elegant quill, feather twisting around the wearing cover, sits atop it,
a vial of blackish blue ink near the light.

In the drawer there sits an assortment of colored inks and a decoy diary;
she has brothers after all.

Mathew's journal is practically brand new,
sparse scribbles throughout it only appearing when his parents are watching him.
For the most part the primarily blank book sees his broken pencil
for bored doodles.

It's kept--- somewhere in his room.
Usually between the bed and the wall or in the bottom of the closet.
He loses it a lot but doesn't care enough to find it again.

At the far end of Markel Young's room,
there sits a dusty tool box whose lid creaks and groans
on its own and hangs by little to nothing from frequent use.
Within here, sitting beside hammers and small axes,
scripts and algebraic puzzles, lies Bay's Journal.

The book is worn through and not his first one,
the intelligent little boy having perfected the art
of fine note taking by the age of 7.
He catalogs every advance step he takes.

A small white book, clinical in appearance
sits in Eliza's gym bag, from where it leaves
a begrudging once a week.

It's rehab demanded she keep a journal
in order to track her progress.
It is private, just for her eyes, but mandatory.

Bound with leaves pressed into the cover,
maple, oak, ivy.

Elizabeths diary sits beautifully on the end of her bed or
in the window sill of suite 202.
There sits a pen through its spine,
decorated similar to the book. It is skinny and long,
a pressed vine winding its way up and around
to a leaf springing from the top.
