Any reviews on GameSpot that have made you just want to backslap the reviewer?
For me, it was Greg Kasavin's review's for Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening and the Sepcial Edition of the same game. In the first review, he dropped his scroe because the game was apparently too difficult, but when he reviewed the SE, he complained that it was too easy compared to the original. They fixed the problems with the difficulty, and now he complains question

Actually, I know that feeling well. I mainly get really peeved when they first review a game, only to turn around and review it again.....because THIS TIME they actually PLAYED the game. Geez, I just love to slap people like that.
Another thing I notice is that some reviews only seem to give a review only after playing the game for 30 minutes. To me, that's not really enough time to really give an opinion, biased or not. If you plan to review a game, give the game a real chance first, not just base it on a few short moments of what you played. I notice this with some of the action games.
I also notice that Gamespot seems to give really bad reviews on games that actually got good reviews with just about every other gaming mag or forum. Not to say that Gamespot is a bad place to go, but if they tend to review the game, at least KNOW what you are talking about.

It's oftentimes said that if a game is given an 8 or higher on GS, then it deserves that score, because they're so toough with their reviews, but I've played a few games they've given good scores and not liked them much at all.

I hate people that either give it all zero's or all ten's and just fill the review up with: Love it Love it Love it Love it Love it Love it Love it Love it Love it Love it Love it Love it Love it.

Has anyone else noticed that, if a game catches your eye and looks fun to you, and the score is above 6.5, you'll probably still enjoy the game? biggrin

I've had fun with games that had a score less than 5. I think I had a great time with a game that got like 3 or something but I forget the name of it.

I just don't understand how Chrono Cross is the only game produced by Square that received 10. I'm not discording Chrono Cross worth 10, but don't give 10 to FF8 (9.5) or FF10 (9.3). I simply disagree.

Feh. They're not as bad as the reviewers from Game Informer. I think they're a bit biased while I remember reading that Gamespot's reviews were targeted towards fans of the genre.
Hence, I believe this explains why the average non-fan of, say, GTA: SA would say "The game got *that* high?!" while the average fan would say "That's it?!"
Of course this is just personal conjecture and little more than that. :/
