XXXXXXX[Biscuit]

He had left his son in the care of Ashura over a year ago and during that time he hadn't been the best at coming to visit. His curiosity had been satisfied by Ashura's missives, indicating that all was well and that his son was recovering. According to the reports, Cinnamon had been responding well to her company and more vitally, to the hobbies and activities she had given him. His mood swings were less apparent and he was much more patient - he was no longer provoked by the simplest of words or phrases and more importantly, he no longer had those dreams. For all intents and purposes, Ashura's influence had proven to be the turning point in Cinnamon's life and she had become an invaluable ally.

Or at least this is what Biscuit had thought when he had left Ashura in charge of his son. She had offered to provide the intervention he so desperately needed and she had upheld her end of the bargain. She had had no ulterior motive, nor had she hoped for anything more than to aid him - granted she wanted to rescue him in that respect, but not in the manner that other females had seen him.

He was a project, yes.

Did she had illusions of him falling for her? No.

Nevertheless, Biscuit really should have known better, for in the grand scheme of things the two had developed from allies into friends. While his son was stubborn, Biscuit had always had the belief that deep down, he would come to realise that there was more to life than bitterness. Much to his pleasant surprise it had been Cinnamon who had discovered that for himself, and it was Cinnamon who now wanted to make the first move - his son was in love with his psychiatrist, someone who had been a bone of contention for him for quite some time.

Even more to Biscuit's delight, Cinnamon had already told her as much and she had, tentatively indicated that his feelings were matched.

Of course Ashura had notified him immediately of this change in circumstances, indicating that she would have understood if he wished to find someone else to help...but Biscuit knew better than that. This was why he now found himself trudging towards the home of his son and soon to be daughter-in-law. Some things were better said face-to-face, and informing Ashura that she was the only one for the job was one of those things.

...Besides, he was a tiny bit curious as to how much of an indignant look Cinnamon might give and whatever he might say when he found out Ashura thought she might be replaced! After all, Cinnamon didn't need to say anything to let anyone know he was annoyed.

XXXXXXX[Ashura]

He was coming, he was coming! Oh dear gods she wasn't ready and their home was an absolute mess! Cinnamon had never been a tidy soul, and he was so focused in his project, something to do with cross breeding roses, that he often left items strewn all around their cave. Whether it be sacks of soil, little ceramic pots (though she could never work out where those were from), or fallen leaves...there was always something in the way. While she was generally fine with this when they were alone, she couldn't allow it to remain this way whenever they were going to have a visitor.

...Especially one so important.

Cinnamon had thought nothing of it when his father had said he was coming to visit, he had assumed it was a check-in as was the case most of the time. After all, Biscuit was often travelling for long periods of time and he was accustomed to his father showing up at random intervals. Thus he failed to see why she might be in such a tizzy but... Well he didn't know that she often sent messages to him by bird, updating him on Cinnamon's progress and ultimately on the fact that she had been compromised.

It wasn't that she had meant to fall in love with Cinnamon, it had just happened and now she had no doubt that he would want to find another to supervise his son, though she Would insist of staying here anyway.

However the fact that he was coming to visit meant that she had to make sure everything was clean and as a consequence, she was bustling around to and fro, here and there, attempting to at least hide all of Cinnamon's equipment out of sight. She knew that she couldn't throw it away as it was generally important, but she could make it symmetric or something - at least presentable. She had placed the sacks of dirt in a row, taking care not to damage the sproutlings...and now she sought to hide all the remaining things before he got here.

...Alas, she could already here the approaching hoofsteps and well...

Her home still wasn't very presentable at all.

"Would you at least help?" she gazed at Cinnamon in exasperation and shook her head. "Most of this is your mess!"

She was in one of those weird moods again - he'd known her for a year and he hadn't the foggiest notion what was wrong with her. You would have thought that by now he would have known at least something, worked it out, but it always seemed to be something different that set her off. He was supposed to be the one with the mental instability, that 'trauma' that he had finally gotten Ashura to explain to him, and yet she was occasionally the most neurotic female he had ever met.

He had been peering at each of his plants, tending to each in turn while she bustled about, but as she began to move his plants to a different spot and organise them into rows, he had been forced to at least pay some attention. It had been then that he discovered that she had hidden all his things, or at least organised them so that there was some form of order to the chaos. In those moments he knew that he was never going to be able to find some of his things every again.

Even if he asked, she would just say she put them with the others.

He knew better and he mourned the loss of some of his tools.

Nevertheless when she spoke to him, he gave her a very level stare and lifted a brow. She had already cleaned up to the point that he couldn't offer any further help, short of doing a sun dance and scrubbing down the cave walls, he was at a loss. She'd never been this peculiar around his father before, so what made today any different?

"You are aware it is just a visit?" he asked and shook his head. "He has seen far worse, you really should stop panicking..."

"It is not just a 'visit'!" she snapped before catching her tone and shaking head. "It's not just a visit," she repeated, softening her tone as she bustled about and finished off the rest of her cleaning. To her own eyes it wasn't perfect, but it would do and it was at least presentable. She could at least rest easy knowing that Biscuit wouldn't think she had been allowing Cinnamon to wallow in dirt and grime in his absence... granted he used to do that any way but that was beside the point.

"We haven't seen him in a year and a lot has changed," she pointed out. She released a sigh and turned to inspect Cinnamon, her eyes darkening as she realised he was covered in mud up to his knees... and his nose wasn't much better either. Sadly she didn't have time to send him to the river to clean himself off, his sorry state of affairs was just going to have to be something that she claimed as an oversight.

"You've gotten a lot better, he'll be pleased to see that, but you and I have also..." she trailed off with a sigh.

"If you are referring to the fact that you are now in a relationship..." Biscuit had slowed down somewhat when he detected a faint hint of panic in her tone, allowing her to have a few more moments to prepare before he arrived. However his son's laid back reply had only served to provoke her and it was perhaps for the best that he put her out of her misery. After all, she had never been quite so panicked before and she had been the epitome of professional, it was quite the shift in character!

"I can assure you that there is no better individual to help a stallion, than a good mare," he glanced at the bemused expression upon his son's features and then back to Ashura, a wry smile on his lips. Stepping over a number of obstacles near his feet, he moved closer and gave her a gentle nudge - unsurprisingly she was as tense as a highly-strung deer.

"Now, what was this about another psychiatrist, Ashura?" he mused, peering at the mare with renewed curiosity as she shuffled uncomfortably. Just as he had expected, Cinnamon's bemused expression had quickly transformed into one of confusion... His son was really very expressive when he wanted to be, it was a talent to say the least!

XXXXXXX[Cinnamon Whirl]

"Wait, what?" he rarely spoke, but at this point in time he deemed it necessary after his father's brief exchange with Ashura. His face had contorted into one of confusion, and now, just as his father had predicted, it was the definition of indignant. It had taken him a year to accept Ashura into life and even now there were occasions when he was a problematic and awkward pain in the backside. He had gotten used to her quirks and he appreciated that she kept to herself when he needed his space - to think that she was going to replace herself didn't just baffle him, it infuriated him.

He was not going to train another damn psychiatrist, he'd bloody well kill them! In fact, he didn't even need a psychiatrist any more, he was fine as he was and he could control his own temper. He had his garden, his pet projects and he had Ashura to rant at when things weren't going his way so why did he still need one in the first place?

"I am not getting a new anything." he snapped, a semblance of his old temper re-emerging as he glanced between his father and Ashura. He simply had no other words than that - he was at a loss as to what he should or could have said beyond that. He had made it absolutely clear in that statement, yet he still struggled to comprehend why Ashura had decided he might need one.

"Why?" he said at last, rounding on Ashura. "You said I wasn't an inconvenience!"

"And you aren't!" Ashura replied, still flustered by Biscuits sudden appearance and his lack of tact when it came to bringing the discussion up. She knew that Cinnamon would have reacted with hostility towards the idea of someone else coming into his life... That was why she had wanted to address the subject calmly and with reassurances that she wasn't going to go anywhere. She had assumed it was the right thing to do, but Biscuit had now trampled in over that assumption and asked her why on earth she would require additional help.

...The fact of the matter was that she didn't, she never had done, it was just 'right'.

"But it's a conflict of interests," she stated glumly, lifting a hoof to make a circular motion as though she was attempting to work out what to say. "I'm in love with you so I won't be able to give a critical or objective analysis regarding your behaviour, whether you need further treatment," she sighed and dropped her foot to the ground again, lifting her gaze to look towards Cinnamon.

"And I'm not saying you need any more help, but in the event that you did, how would I spot it?" she remarked. "I just thought your parents would appreciate a more objective view, but I wouldn't have left you alone, I would have still been here."

"The same way you spot it when he gets into a bad mood," Biscuit replied flatly, disregarding his son's indignant protests for the time being. He had noted that Ashura was lacking in considerable confidence despite the success she had achieved with his son. She had succeeded in calming him when no one else could through use of some rather unorthodox tactics, even if he had wanted to find another to observe his son, he doubted he would find anyone as capable. In fact, he would have bet all his possessions on the fact that any one else would change those tactics and cause Cinnamon to revert back to square one!

"The same way you would spot if someone had a stomach ache, if they were unhappy or sad," he raised his eyes heavenwards and heaved a deep sigh of exasperation. "If anything being in love with my son does nothing more than heighten your intuition to when he needs you most, more importantly, to what he needs most," he returned his gaze to Ashura and offered a wry smile, his gaze then flicking towards his son.

"You're right, you don't need another one at all," he said teasingly and chuckled. "With all due respect Ashura, you are more than capable of taking care of my son and vice versa," he pointed out. While Cinnamon may have needed emotional support he wasn't vulnerable, he provided just as much support and protection to Ashura. "And it would do you well to realise that."

"I won't be sending anyone else to observe my son when he has made it perfectly clear he might kill the unfortunate soul when crossed."

He settled relatively quickly as the situation was clarified and what had once been an indignant expression became more than just a little exasperated. For one so clever, his mate was absolutely oblivious on occasions, he was seriously beginning to suspect that she was neurotic and she had simply hidden it well up until this point. However, when she made it clear that she had only had his best interests at heart and that she felt somewhat obligated to remain professional, he could do nothing more than sigh and raise his eyes heavenwards.

"Not so much kill as...strongly discourage them," he replied to his father's jest, his lips pursing as he returned his attention to his mate. She was fidgeting again, decidedly uncomfortable under the scrutiny of both males and obviously extraordinarily embarrassed. Thus, rather than render her completely uncomfortable he turned his attention back to his father and lifted a brow. After all, it wasn't often that Biscuit made the trek to see him, had he really come to say that and only that?

"Am I correct in assuming that you came to say that rather than to check up on me?" he enquired mildly. "Because I am fairly certain that she would have sent a message if I wasn't," he pointed out, affording himself a smile as Ashura gave a start.

...Ah yes, her antics hadn't gone unnoticed even if he chose to ignore them!

"Some things are better said face-to-face," Biscuit replied, a warm smile creeping onto his lips as he regarded Ashura's embarrassed, or perhaps even mortified expression. Bless her, she'd had Cinnamon's best interests at heart, but ultimately they had been misplaced. A missive wouldn't have had as much of an effect as an indignant lover and a bemused father-in-law. After all, tone was impossible to convey, particularly if you didn't find a suitable messenger!

"That and it had been a while," he pointed out, raising a brow as he provided the silent reminder that it had been over a year. Even if it was only an annual event, he at least had the decency to show up properly now and again. While his immediate concern had been to address Ashura's definition of professionalism, he had also been curious to see how his son had been doing as of late.

...Especially now that he had seen all the flowers.

"What's with the flowers though?" he asked at last, at which point a flicker of enthusiasm crept onto his son's features and he promptly launched into an explanation of his garden and his experiments with cross breeding certain species.

Suffice it to say that with Cinnamon thoroughly preoccupied, Ashura would have more than enough time to recover her composure and absorb the information she had been given, both vocal and otherwise...
