The hot season was definitely upon the lands. Pausing in her work for a few moments, Rhodesia lifted her head upwards, fixing her ruby eyes on the part of the sky she could see with a squint. It was barely midday and already was the air thick with a stickiness that clung uncomfortably to every part of her; made her feel like she was swimming, even, but all without the pleasantness of the actual act itself. Huffing, she bowed her head again and gave her loosely tied-back mane a shake, setting her gaze back upon the scrub brush that surrounded her.

She had wandered quite a distance from her home along the beach this time, tracing along the shoreline to the northwest until she eventually found trees, all gathered in rather unimpressive clumps. It wasn't quite a full-fledged forest, nor exactly proper plains land, but perhaps a mixture of the two, with the sparse and thin trees, and a ground rife with scraggly bush. Not the prettiest of scenery either, but maybe it held the things she was searching for. This heat, however...

The Alicorn gave her head another shake, as if to show her displeasure, causing her tied-back mane to bounce over to the other side of her neck. The quicker she got this over with, the sooner she could return to the cooler temperatures of her home. Or at least locate some shade to rest in for a few hours. A second huff at the thought, and she lowered her head further, returning to her slow and methodical search of the plants around her.

It had been a long, rather boring day for Gatsby. He'd spent it being rather reclusive, hiding in the shade of the few trees that he had found. It was far too hot for him to be out and about with his dark coat, so he had taken to shade the moment he had found it. It wasn't much, but it did offer some relief from the heat and on a day like this, you would take what you could get.

Even if he was out in the open though, it really wouldn't have mattered. It didn't seem as if many were travelling in his direction that day. He saw no other horses, and scarce few of any other creature to be honest. It seemed as if he was the only one in the lands that morning and he didn't like that one bit. It was too quiet, too lonely. He didn't find it one bit relaxing or peaceful. It was stressful, was what it was. It meant that Gatsby was alone with his thoughts and his doubts, and that was not how he liked to be.

He was certain he was going to go crazy soon. He couldn't leave, it was far too hot for that, but he also couldn't stay here alone by himself. He needed some company and soon. Just as he was about to give up and try to find someone, a lovely mare crossed his path. Distracted from his thoughts now, Gatsby hung back and watched her, curious as to what she was doing.

The mare seem particularly interested in the plants that surrounded her, with the way she would nose through them with her muzzle, or poke at them with a hoof hidden under long fetlocks that were the same shade of dusty green as her mane. It was as though she were searching for a certain leaf, a certain flower, and clearly was not having any luck, if that frown plastered on her face was anything to go by.

She didn't seem to notice the earth-toned stallion nearby either, her bright red eyes seeing only the fauna before her. Like she was lost in her own little world, her slender trail swaying behind her to a beat only she could hear as she persisted in her fruitless search.
