One warm October evening, a chipper young monster and her churlish demon beau strolled across the campus of Amityville Academy, hand in hand. Tonight marked the anniversary of the annual school dance, and although the evening wouldn't go down in history as having been universally detrimental, plenty of students would have their own memories of the event, memories that would leave them smiling nostalgically or squirming uncomfortably for years to come.
The monster and the demon were fated to make some interesting new memories that evening as well, memories that neither of them could have imagined they would make when the night began.
It all started with that perfectly innocent walk from the big top to the fun house...

West cleared his slightly strained throat as he peered off in the direction they were headed, toward the bright neon sign that denoted the entrance to the dark carnival's fun house. There seemed to be quite a lot to do at this year's prom, but the night was young and they had plenty of time to get to it all. In any case, they'd already danced, which was what these things were for anyway, right? They had also... sung, which was not at all what proms were for, but anything that made Levi react the way she had while he'd wailed away on that stage was worth breaking tradition for.
"So, yeah, even if ya liked my singin', don't think yer ever gettin' me t'do it again," he teased, casting a sidelong glance her way and breaking into a grin as soon as he looked forward again. "Never again," he said, voice airy with amusement. "Only did it this time 'cause... well..." He sobered a bit, his tone evening out for a moment. "It was a shitty thing t'do. Darin' you without doin' it myself." West's brief burst of sincerity fled as quickly as it had arrived.
"So, whatcha think's gonna be in this fun house?" he asked. "Bugs an' wailin' banshees? Or somethin' that's actually scary?" As a scareling West had never really wondered why so many city dwellers had such odd ideas of what was actually frightening. It was only after spending some time in the human world, especially following their recent field trip to that odd little fair, that he was beginning to understand where it had all come from. In an effort to emulate the humans who had helped to create them, many of the Halloweeners he had grown up around made fun houses in their image. It certainly made for some lame scares.
