Obeah was homesick, though he was loathe to admit it. It has been months since he had been bcak to his kingdom, but his mission was yet to be complete. He needed more heirs, and like before he was exceedingly picky. They had to be perfect if he expected to bring him back to his family and his queen.

But for now, he was tired of the hunt and was trying to get some relief from the summer heat. He headed into the river, wading up the way towards the meadow. The water came up only to his chest, but he would dunk his head under occasionally to keep him moist and cool.

It had been through her mother's encouragement that she had finally flown from the nest. If she was going achieve what she aspired to, without her father meddling in her affairs, then she was going to find some level of independence. Admittedly, this was proving to be more difficult than she had intended - why, you might ask? Well this particular soquili was not the strongest, fittest or sportiest being the world. Pampered and coddled, she was about as strong as a foal and as helpless as one too... It made every experience somewhat inconvenient and difficult!

Suffice it to say that she needed a rest.

A long one.

Much to her great pleasure the fates had smiled upon her, for the sun had risen and cast its loving gaze on the meadow. The heat was rising and the phoenix mare was beyond content to simply bask in the sun...

Marconius tossed his feathery mane and sighed inwardly. It was an exceedingly bright day, and not one that he had prepared for. The sweltering heat seemed to drain the stallion of a lot of his energy, and he despised how it made him feel. sticky, sweaty, and disgusting. He plodded along, looking for a respite when the mirrored glimmer ahead caught his eye. His ears pricked. A lake, and a crystal clear one at that. As much as he disdained such foalish frivolity, the impulse was there to dive in and quench his thirst and immediately cool off.

But, it wouldn't do if there were any others around. Certainly he couldn't be seen doing something as uncouth as that. He picked xhis way forward, hoping the coast was clear. But then, no - something raised its head with a mess of dark curls. No gator as he had originally surmised, but another stallion, and one it seemed that did not have any reservations.

He inwardly chided himself for the thought and finished his approach in order to take a drink.

" I don't suppose if you have quite finished," Marconius began, "That you would mind if I were to slake my thirst in your bathwater." There was no sneer on his face, but the tone of his words carried through some of the stallion's disdain. To say nothing of the fact he had been tempted moments ago to do the same himself.

Marconius had yet to spy another visitor, also with her eyes on the meadow and lake

Obeah observed the fiery mare approaching, his eyebrow raising in interest. She was quite a beautiful sight, though, from his experiences delicate mares such as her were generally weary f his serpentine appearance. But before he could go over to introduce himself, he was interrupted by another stallion.

He turned his head to look at the blue stallion and gave a fangy smirk. "Enjoy yourself," he said, a hiss in his voice, as he hoisted himself out of the cool water; the the water sliding off his scales with ease.

Fascinating.

Tranquility's eyes widened as she observed the approach of the flutter male, and then, as he spoke, turned her attention to Obeah. Her powers of observation clearly left much to be desired as she hadn't noticed him when she had initially taken her place beside the lake. However now that she had been made aware of his existence a curious smile crept on to her lips, her head tilting to one side as the pair conversed. Both were unusual and she was fairly certain she had never been exposed to either of her species, but it was Obeah who held the most interest... He had scales, she'd never seen that before!

...Alas, neither Obeah or Marconius were actually the male she had been hunting for when she had decided to leave home.

Polite and hospitable as always, the mare gave herself a quick dust off with each of her wings and straightened her braid. Only when she was satisfied with her presentation, did she turn a warm smile back upon the pair, oblivious to the disdain that either one might have for one another in those moments.

"Wonderful weather wouldn't you say?" she offered conversationally, raising a brow as she caught sight of the trinket in Obeah's ear. "Oh I say, is that a skull?"

"Charmed, I'm sure." Marconius forced a smile and looked dubiously down at the water for a moment, eying the rather reptilian looking stallion as he exited the pool. He sighed, he was thirsty, but having just seem someone bathing in it moments ago left a bit of distaste in his mouth. Still, he was not so naive to think that this was not often the case with most lakes, even when the culprits were not so readily visible.

He lowered his muzzle and whet his lips before raising it again. "I do hope that this crystalline river was suitable to your washing needs." He murmured, keeping the ever-present note of dry sarcasm to his voice.

Marconius turned his head quickly as there was a glimmer of movement from the tall grasses and he realized that there was another present - and a lovely mare at that. His brow raised and he gave a courtley nod of his head at her arrival. "Milady," He dripped an overly sacchrine honey in his voice as he seemed to appraise her with his eyes.

"It is a rare day indeed that can contest with the blazing heat of a pyre..." he seemed to agree.

"Perfect weather," he said to the mare, a bit surprised that he approached her, but not disappointing. When he mentioned his earring, he tilted his head a bit, catching the light. "Its meant to look like one," he said with a smile, though this one," he looked down to the horse skull hanging from his chest, "is quite real."

He took another step towards her, though he took a long sidelong glance at the other stallion coming up and rolled his eyes dramatically.

Marconius certainly had a way with words and despite his rather dry tone, she couldn't help but release a small gurgle of laughter. Evidently he was not a fan of heat in quite the same manner that she was, then again there were few that were. She had her father and his genetics to thank for that, given he'd always radiated a great deal of heat... perhaps that was why they had elected to live in the mountains to raise their children? She shook this thought from her mind, chastising herself for her rudeness - inner monologue was inappropriate in a social setting!

Nevertheless she did release a coo of surprise as she gave Marconius a proper look - was his hair made of feathers? Her eyes positively glowed with delight at the odd pair of males that she had stumbled on this afternoon. One with a feather mane, another with scales, they just didn't make them like this in the mountains. Unsurprisingly the mare hadn't the slightest idea where to look first, her gaze flicking back and forth between both stallions as both spoke.

She didn't want to ignore either of them, she had so many questions for them both, but where to begin?

Both? Her mother could hold many conversations at once, surely she could too!

She cast her gaze down to Obeah's neck as he made reference to his necklace and no sooner had she caught sight of the necklace than her lips had pursed. She was beginning to suspect that the soquili beyond her home were unique in many respects, including social customs. "Why would you carry one of our skulls?" she asked at last. "Is it a dead relative?"

How very morbid!

Then there was Marconius and his feathered mane - what on earth was he?

"Your hair is made of feathers," she stated and shook her head. "Are you a bird? I've heard of creatures who can turn from one form into another..."

Marconius's eyes narrowed very briefly as Obeah fully emerged from the river and drew attention to his necklace. It did certainly look genuine. However, he didn't flinch, just eye it with a not eof curiousity and intrigue.

"I say... did you earn that yourself, or merely scavenge it somewhere.." Marconius postulated.

He looked back to the fiery mare, "Oh, my dear, no.." ther ewas a note of pity in his voice as if one were speaking with a small child, or someone who was touched. "My mother was a harpy - a beautiful but dangerous, and granted, somewhat avian, soquili. But you, my lady, you bear wings of feathers, and some in your long mane as well. Do you become a bird?" he said with a wry smile.

"It's an omen," he told her, his eyes shining as he remembered, his jaw nearly quivering as he talked. "You see, many moons ago, I was looking for a new homeland. A place to build my magnificent kingdom. I found this, and inside was the most magnificent serpent you'd ever see. He chose me, you see, and I decided then and there that would where I would build my kingdom. I carry him with me as a sign of respect, and a way to keep my home with me, even when I'm away."

He looked at her, wondering if she found his story as exciting as he did. He stepped closer still, bumping his hip against Marconious, nudging him out of the way so he was more squarely in Tranquility's vision.

She had the decency to look sheepish as Marconius pointed out that she too, had feathers in her hair. Granted they weren't quite the same as his and it came down in a single large tress, but with this in mind, his point was valid. If she could have feathers in her hair then he could most certainly have them in his without being a spirit creature. Clearing her throat, she gave herself a few seconds to recover and then placed the smile back on her lips - she'd never been one to watch her words very well, these slip ups were common.

"I confess that I do not know what a harpy is -" she offered, though she couldn't afford to provide any follow-up as Obeah pushed further into her vision and provided her with his explanation of his necklace. All in all it was an intriguing story, and odd as it might have seemed to others, it seemed perfectly plausible to her. The fiery female had been graced with many tales as she aged and each one had always been filled with magic of some kind; what might seem impossible or unrealistic, wasn't always the case.

That...and carrying a piece of home with you was a novel idea.

"I see," she murmured thoughtfully, her lips pursing softly as she took the time to dwell on what his kingdom might look like. Was it murky, full of water, a swamp? Did it have unusual structures that occasionally graced a place due to the influence of two-leggers? She'd never been terribly adventurous but her curiosity was piqued by that and for a moment she could appreciate why Solstice might be driven to disappear without warning.

"What's it like, your kingdom, that is?"

Marconius was stunned at the flagrant diregard and rudeness that the serpentine stallion had treated him with.
"Ex.... excuse me?!" Marconius interrupted, his voice raising an octive as he let his formality slip for a brief moment as his eyes flashed. His featheres ruffled, raising on his neck as he snorted.

No... no. He would not slip to that level. He set his jaw and strode a distance from Obeah, to a different side of the possibly simple mare. He spoke as he walked, determined to draw her attention away from him rather than let him bask alone in that spotlight.
"Well, I am sure that it was a great accomplishment to aquire a piece of detrius that was left behind by someone less... suited to whatever grand territory it is you have claimed. Surely, it must be a magnificent herdgrounds if whomever that one was could not bear its majesty." Marconius smiled to himself.

"As to the nature of a harpy..." He continued, focusing his words on the mysterious mare, "Perhaps one day you shall meet one yourself. They are clever beasts, but my parentage has brought me the refinement of my father. Their ferocity tends to run strong in those of the traditionally weaker sex." He mused, distancing himself from them in a sense. "But where are my manners... I am known as Marconius, and you, sweet lady, what name has been given to one such as yourself?" He eyed Obeah briefly, "I do not know if such creatures as those even bear names," he said with a dubious disregard.

"It's wondrous," he said, with a near chesire grin. "Beautiful in every way imaginable. There are great lakes and ponds, the grass is so green, and there are flowers and gold everywhere," he breathed, the nostalgia think in his voice. "And, best of all..."

His gushings were interrupted by Marconious's scoff. He stopped and narrowed his eyes at the stallion, his mouth opening a bit in disbelief when he actively tried to draw her attention away from him. He sneered, letting his long fangs show. "My name is Obeah," he growled at the stallion's accusation that he may not have a name, and trying to get the mare's attention again.

[[Lmao, I can't decide who I like more out of these two...Marc is positively obnoxious and Obeah is just as bad!]]

"I..." Tranquillity hadn't been prepared for Marconius's outburst. While she could appreciate that he had grounds for distaste and frustration at Obeah's manners, she wasn't entirely sure of whether or not it was a cultural difference, or a genuine case of poor manners. Obeah seemed to come from an entirely different land so...perhaps that was how they were? It wouldn't have taken a genius to realise that Tranquillity was the definition of naive, nor was she terribly good with conflict. In those moments the mare opted to remain silent until she sensed that neither stallion was about to come to blows; though even then she wasn't sure if she was accurate in her assessment.

Nevertheless she did have to correct Marconius on one thing, for her mother wouldn't have approved if she didn't. "All creatures bear a name and identity, though you may not necessarily be aware of it, you shouldn't assume that those you deem unworthy are not of value and note to someone else..."

"And my name is Tranquillity," she said at last, smiling at each stallion in turn. She had made a mental note during her silence to ensure that she paid equal attention to both, or at the very least, she would give her best attempt. "Though most call me Lilly, so you can call me that if you prefer," she added and took a small breath, "It's a pleasure to meet both of you."

"I should very much like to meet a harpy in the future, though if they are indeed as ferocious as you say then I suspect I should take some care," she murmured. She furrowed her brow and then promptly shook her head, as a creature who was not inclined towards conflict she would have to be more than just careful, she would need to be guarded!

"As to your home Obeah, it sounds glorious," she continued with genuine warmth. "But if it is so beautiful, why on earth did you decide to leave it?"
