PuddleClan Camp
The PuddleClan camp is situated in the dead center of their territory on a large island. On one side of the island is a rushing gorge impossible to cross even by the best of PuddleClan's swimmers, and on the other side a deep wide river. When other clan cats are forced to visit they are forced to swim across this river with help from other PuddleClan cats. The rivers are the only sort of defense PuddleClan has to their camp. Besides that its very open and cool. All the dens are built from bracken, moss, and fallen branches as well as river stones. In the east side of the camp is the Large Boulder where clan meetings take place. underneath the Large Boulder is a hollow where the leader sleeps. In the center of camp is the fresh-kill pile.

Embertail woke when the first traces of dawn began to lighten the sky. She stretched carefully when she did, easing the stiffness from her limbs. It was warm in the den, the kind of heat that could easily lull a cat back to sleep. As deputy, she didn't get the luxury of sleeping in, sadly. It was one of the things a cat could definitely miss about being an apprentice.

Making her way carefully out of the den, Embertail padded to the center of camp. She bypassed the fresh kill pile, knowing she could wait until later. She'd eat after she'd organized the dawn patrols. She was planning on leading the dawn patrol herself, pondering who to take with her. It could be a bit difficult making such choices when she was the first one awake. Settling somewhat near the Large Boulder, she decided to watch to see who woke up.

"I can't blame anyone for wanting to sleep in. It's a good morning for it." Embertail commented aloud to herself, licking a paw and swiping it over her ear. A quick bit of grooming before greeting everyone couldn't hurt. Thankfully, her short pelt remained mostly unruffled by sleep. It would be a bit embarrassing to look unkempt while trying to direct the clan's patrols. Very unbecoming. Embertail purred quietly with amusement at her mental image, glad she was already looking fine.

She continued with her grooming mostly out of boredom. More light was slowly leaking into the sky, meaning her clan would soon be waking. For a moment, looking at the camp, she was taken again by the sense of pride that had filled her during her first vigil as a warrior. This was her clan, her home. She cared deeply for each and every cat here, and she loved the territory. For a moment, she wondered how much that pride would amplify if she were ever to become leader. She could only imagine the feeling would be amazing.

Shaking her head at herself, she pricked her ears for the sounds of movement in the dens. After all, she could only hope there were many moons left before she even had to think about becoming leader. She was more than content; being the deputy was an incredible honor. She was certainly trying her best to serve her clan well.

Wise Medicine cat of PuddleClan

I was once a warrior...
I had caught the leaders eye...
But then StarClan spoke...

From inside the medicine den one could movement and the medicine cat, Snowfang, muttered loudly to himself.
"Were low Borage leaves, yes that's important...Need to get more." he stuck his black paw into the small hole he had dug for one of his herbs, tansy. A trouble look crossed his face "Low on this too, need to be careful with this too." the black fur along his spine stood on end. Their whole stock was dangerously low. His golden gaze drifted across the den. And yet there's still so many cats to be tended too. his stomach growled as the thought ended, snapping him from his thoughts. With a roll of his eyes he made his way to the entrance of his den.

As he entered into the camp he took a small moment to pause and allow his eye to adjust to the light. When he was able to see again he felt his chest fill with pride. This was the best clan around! This was PuddleClan, his birth clan and he wouldn't have had it any other way.
Taking a deep breath, letting the scents of his clanmates wash over him he headed over to the Fresh kill pile. It was well stocked today but still he chose a rather scrawny looking water vole for himself. There was no need he should be able to help himself when he hadn't been hunting lately.
He walked in the direction of Embertail, giving her a friendly wave of his tail. When he was a little bit away he flopped down on his side, not caring that the sand cover his white unkempt fur. Dropping his mouse down at his paws before speaking in a bored tone, a yawn muffling his words "If I didn't know any better i'd think the clans got a bit lazy lately." a purr of laughter rumbled in his throat when he had finished yawning. The old tom with the unkempt fur took a bite of his water vole and tore into the tough meat and began chewing slowly.

Referred to as the strongest in the clan!
And rumors spread that I was his next choice for deputy.
And I was forced to follow another path.

нυяτṡ some days. It's okay to be αƒяαι∂

Songpaw's mouth opened wide in a long yawn as she woke up from a deep sleep. She glanced around the Medicine Cat den but found herself alone. With a tiny sigh the young apprentice rolled out of her nest and pulled herself to her feet. She didn't notice it, but her fur had small twigs and leaves sticking out of it as well as some sand. She yawned loudly once again before trotting out of the den and blinked wide blue eyes in the bright sunlight that accosted her.

When her eyesight had adjusted she looked around camp. Her paws unconsciously brought her towards the fresh-kill pile where she found a small mouse to enjoy. Her stomach rumbled appreciatively at the smell of food. She looked around camp once again and spotted her mentor sitting by himself. She purred happily and barreled towards him, carrying her mouse. When she had reached him, she flopped onto the sandy ground and looked up at him.

"Gooood Morning!" She chirped happily, swishing her tail in the sand and continued to watch him for a few moments before finally digging into her breakfast. A simple good morning was all she needed to say. She was always more of the silent type anyways. Being silent gave her time to think. She loved PuddleClan. She really did. It was the only home she had ever known. But all 6 moons of her life, she had spent wondering where she had really come from. Her only clue was where Snowfang had found her. She would never leave PuddleClan not for anything or anyone.... but she still wanted some answers.

                                                                          Everybody нυяτṡ, everybody ṡ¢яεαмṡ

Embertail returned the Snowfang's friendly tail wave as he approached. She wondered if he had just gotten up, based on his unkempt coat. She really didn't mind, and it certainly didn't make him any less good at healing, but she couldn't help but notice. She was probably paying too much attention since he was the first one awake aside from herself.

"It's nice to have some peace, even if it's coming from laziness." She commented, unable to think of much more to say. She couldn't even really comment, seeing as she was currently sitting around waiting for another warrior to wake up. It was good weather to be lazy in. She watched as Songpaw came out of the medicine cat's den, pelt ever more ruffled then her mentor's. At least she seemed cheery in the morning.

"Good morning Songpaw." She knew the greeting hadn't been directed to herself, but Embertail felt rude not saying anything. They were the only three cats out in the camp. She couldn't even be sure the apprentice had really noticed her.

I was once a warrior...
I had caught the leaders eye...
But then StarClan spoke...

Taking another bite of the water vole the sound of paw steps sounded behind him. He didn't have to look to see who they belonged to. He'd know his apprentices paw steps anywhere. As he lifted his head she was next to him enjoying her meal after telling him a cheerful good morning. The simple greeting caused a rare reaction, one only she could get out of him. A purr rumbled in his throat as a small smile crept across his lips. "Good morning to you too, looks like you slept well." his golden gaze drifted to the bits of twigs in her fur. He knew he couldn't scold her for not taking care of her coat seeing as he rarely cleaned his own. But she was a beautiful she-cat. Even if she was a medicine cat there was no reason for her to not show just how pretty she was.

After taking another bite he looked to his apprentice "We've got some restocking to do, up for herb searching?" before she could answer he glanced in the direction of Embertail, giving her an annoyed look "If you really think we need escorts you better make sure the cats are up soon otherwise they can find us by our scent trails." Every cat knew that Snowfang hated being accompanied by a warrior, always having to point out that he was a warrior himself before he was a medicine cat. But sadly the deputy and leader insisted that one always come along. "Better you have back up then go against a patrol alone." was the argument they always gave him.

нυяτṡ some days. It's okay to be αƒяαι∂

Songpaw nodded her head quietly in response to Embertail's greeting. Snowfang was honestly the only one she was really comfortable around. Even now after being in the clan for a little over 5 moons. She chewed on a piece of meat as she smiled brightly at Snowfang. She blinked as his eyes roamed over her and tilted her head before looking at her own pelt. She giggled nervously and quickly finished her mouse. "I didn't even notice my coat....." She said quietly, fidgeting and rubbing her paws in the sand nervously. She knew her mentor was never very neat with his coat, but she figured he'd expect better from her. She yawned widely, which only proved to remind herself that she had only just woken up. Her messy pelt was excused slightly because of that.

With another nervous giggle she sat up and started picking twigs and leaves from her coat before grooming her fur flat. As she cleaned herself she listened to her mentor's suggestion and his complaints towards the deputy. Songpaw stifled giggles at his annoyed tone. She knew how much it annoyed him when they were forced to have warriors follow them around. He had been alone when he'd found her.... and that had ended perfectly fine. She yawned yet again and smiled at Snowfang.
"Herb searching sounds fun." Her tail swished happily as her cheery tone returned when she addressed her mentor. Unbeknownst to her, she had missed a couple twigs and leaves near the back of her neck and had a fluff of fur sticking up right on top of her head.

                                                                          Everybody нυяτṡ, everybody ṡ¢яεαмṡ

Embertail watched the medicine cat and his apprentice interact. It was sweet to see it. Songpaw clearly trusted Snowfang, at least. She wasn't horribly insulted that the young apprentice wasn't very interested in her. They walked very different paths, after all.

Snowfang's comment about having a warrior with them made her think. Well, no one was awake yet. Surely everyone could handle themselves for one morning? The leader couldn't fault her for protecting their healers. Certainly they could both handle themselves, but it would be better for them to have someone. Just in case another clan decided that the two cats were easy targets.

"I'll come with you. I'll even help you carry herbs back so you can gather more." There was no real point in waking anyone just to escort the medicine cats. Providing their timing was right, she could come back and no one would have really noticed her absense. And if they did, well, she wasn't a kit anymore. She was entitled to prioritize her clan's most important cats. Maybe she was just too soft for not wanting to wake anyone. Besides, surely an extra set of jaws could help?

Of course they'd be escorted, he hadn't really expected the deputy to allow him and his apprentice to go off by themselves. Yet as he rolled his eyes, seeming to be completely annoyed by the added company he was silently grateful for it as well. Snowfang knew if a patrol did try to attack them Songpaw would be a major distraction for him. He cared for his apprentice as if she were his own kit.
Rising to his paws, with a small deal of effort, his golden gaze landed upon young Songpaw. He couldn't help but chuckle a little "You clean yourself like an excited kit." he playfully joked as he removed the remaining twigs from her fur and licked the fur upon his head. Taking a step back he looked her over then gave her an approving nod "There ya go, you'll make all the other she-cats jealous." as he spoke his chest seemed to feel with pride.
Knowing that Embertail was around he tried not to fret over his apprentice too much. Most cats thought him to be grumpy and hard to deal with, no need for the clan to know old Snowfang was a big softy. "Now where should we start?" he asked addressing both cats but looking to his apprentice.

Songpaw grumbled under her breath as the deputy basically demanded she come with them. They could take care of themselves! Well.... Songfang could take care of them. She blinked and frowned slightly when he told her she was like a kit, but she realized he was just joking and smiled up at him cheerfully. A small giggle escaped her lips as he cleaned the parts of her fur she had missed, rolling her eyes at his comment. "Why would I care if I make them jealous or not?" She asked bouncing up to her paws and prancing around him excitedly. She supposed she did act like an excited kit sometimes.... but he was like a father to her and she liked when he was proud of her.

She purred happily and rubbed against his legs affectionately. Quietly, Songpaw took a deep breath and sat on her haunches calmly next to her mentor. She looked at Embertail quietly and then returned her attention back to Snowfang. As soon as blue eyes had found her mentor a smile returned to her lips and purr rumbled in her chest.
"I heard you talking while I was still half asleep. You said we were low on Borage right?" She paused, thinking quietly. She was trying to remember just where Snowfang usually found his borage. "So umm.... the willow forest?" She asked curiously. She wasn't actually sure if she was right though. She tilted her head, looking up at her mentor with wide innocent eyes and a small smile.

                                                                          Everybody нυяτṡ, everybody ṡ¢яεαмṡ

I was once a warrior...
I had caught the leaders eye...
But then StarClan spoke...

The white tom had noticed how his apprentice was acting, how she was only this friendly with him for the most part. He knew as her mentor he should say something but in all truth he could care less. One day Songpaw would be their medicine cat instead of him and as such she could act however she pleased.
Her affection was returned as he rubbed his muzzle against the top of her head. Trying his best not to respond to her last comment. Of course she wouldn't understand why he wanted her to make the other she-cat's jealous. She had chosen a path in which kits were not allowed, a path where the whole clan would be her kits. But that didn't mean she couldn't have been a great mate to some cat if she had chosen the life of a warrior. Sometimes deep in his heart he wished she had chosen to live as a warrior...It would have been a much easier life for her.
He waited to hear her answer, taking pride in the thought she put into it. Oh how he was so proud of her. His smile widen when she told him the answer. He gave a small nod of his head "Very good, now lets get going. Sadly we can't take a day off even if it's such a beautiful day." he told her. He cast one last glance toward the deputy and told her with a bit of a frown upon his lips "You should be able to make it back before the other cats get too restless if we leave now."
As he walked toward the camp entrance he didn't even bother to see if Embertail was following him. Most cats were use to this treatment by him, not like it was anything new. But most cats were smart enough not to open their mouths about it as well.

Referred to as the strongest in the clan!
And rumors spread that I was his next choice for deputy.
And I was forced to follow another path.

нυяτṡ some days. It's okay to be αƒяαι∂

Songpaw smiled widely when he nodded at her answer. She was right! She felt pride beating in her chest when he praised her and bounced to her feet. She couldn't believe all the things she had already learned and she hadn't been an apprentice for even a moon! She padded after her mentor, turning to glance at the deputy when he did. She tilted her head slightly as she watched the deputy. Such an interesting cat, Songpaw supposed. There were so many cats and so much to learn about each one. It was a bit overwhelming at times. With a small shrug, she turned back around and followed Snowfang from the camp.

Songpaw bounced a couple steps forward to catch up to him.
"I used to ask a lot of question about you." She said quietly, flicking blue eyes on her mentor curiously. "The she-cat who took care of me when I first got here said you used to be a warrior. Is that true?" She asked. Her eyes were wide and innocent. She had gathered a lot of information on him when she was younger, but that didn't mean any of it was true. She had to know the truth, and he was the only one that always seemed to tell her the truth no matter what.
