Thrift stores. They were a thing that existed. But weren't exactly a thing Molly understood. She'd been told by one of the techs that they sold discount or used items, but how exactly that applied to things didn't fully make sense. Molly had looked in the regular stores for items before and those were expensive. She made very little working tiny odd-jobs in town. Would items at the 'Thrift' store be more in line with her measly budget that was earned at those jobs and put together with a child's allowance?

It was time to find out, the girl decided as she headed determinedly into the store.

Vÿnl was already in the thrift store. She was looking for things that she could call ironic, in quotations. Maybe something for 8îght-Trac [Eidel]. She was eying up a #1 Grandma sweatshirt in a dusky rose color which had names embroidered on the back-- Trevor, Molly, Toby and Gwendolyn. Presumably these were the grandchildren. As Vÿnl eyed the shirt up and down the shiny thread the names were designed in danced under the industrial standard lighting in the shop.

Molly headed over to look up at the racks of things. She noticed an odd girl looking at a sweatshirt and wandered over to try and read it and see what was so interesting.

"Sign thingy..1...grand...ma." she blinked several times then looked at Vynl then back at the sweatshirt. "You aren't a grandma, are you? Who are those people? Do you know them?"

Vÿnl let out a gutterance that would rustle the jimmies of every gorilla nearby. Provided there were any gorillas nearby. "Of course not!" she said, with a nasal inflection which she hoped to convey that she did not wish to be bothered by a little girl. She clicked her tongue and checked for stains.

"Well why do you want that then?" Molly asked, wrinkling her nose at Vynl's reaction. What an unpleasant person. "It's an ugly sweatshirt that doesn't apply to you and you don't even know the people on it."

That made absolutely no sense to the small girl. Who would wear a shirt with the names of people they didn't know? Or say they were a number one grandma if they weren't? What a strange silly thing to do.

"It would be ironic because obviously I am not a grandma, duh." She was clearly irritated and tried to sound as disinterested in the girl as possible. She couldn't be more than seven or whatever. "Where are your parents?" she asked, in a dismissive tone.

Vÿnl checked the size, then remembered she didn't get her new... associate's... proper size. Eh, weren't sweatshirts meant to be a little baggy?

"I don't have parents, stupid, I'm a Hatchling. Not everyone gets parents. And what is ironic ANYWAY?" Molly peered at her firmly, crossing her arms over her chest.

Partly, the girl could see she WAS disinterested but she didn't care. This person was so unpleasant, Molly was going to talk to her anyway. Just to irritate her.

Vÿnl stuck out her lower lip in general disapproval. "Yeah, I didn't get--" she started to say before interrupting herself "If you don't know what 'Ironic' is go to a library it's not my job to teach you." She clicked her tongue again and turned away from the other girl, though not quite as aggressively as she could have.

Molly noticed the little pout and seemed to at least soften some. "Oh, you didn't get parents either?" she said, cocking her head to the side some and patting Vynl's arm sympathetically before looking at a stripey pink skirt that highlighted an iridescent green in light - it was not the best.

"Anyway, if you like Ironic so much you can tell me what it is. How do I even know you really know?"
PostPosted: Wed Jun 19, 2013 8:50 pm

God, this kid was like a bad rash. "Ironic isn't something that you can just define you have to learn what is, or what it isn't. It's like manners." Vÿnl had some disdain still in her voice but it lacked the significant and intentional hostility from before.

If Molly acted like a bad rash, Vynl looked like one. "Yup, you don't know." the girl said firmly, and went around the rack to look at what was there.

On the other side were all sorts of stockings - including pre-ripped ones, and she laughed, holding a pair between the rack,s "Haha look, people are selling broken leggings like you have."

"The rips and tears tell a story." Vÿnl insisted. "And that makes them ironic." she added. She pouted her lips again and folded her arms. Was this child going to go away? The idea that she could choose not to respond had not crossed her mind and was not likely going to any time soon.

"That makes no sense, I think you're making it up. I'm pretty sure you just hatched with ripped stockings." Molly said, eyes halflidded as she leaned over enough to give Vynl a dirty look.

Really, this girl wouldn't know what ironic meant if it smacked her in the face, obviously.

"You just don't 'get it'!" even if she had hatched with then, Vÿnl knew that something must have ripped them. She was frustrated and a little angry, and even though she was not actually angry with this crotchfruit she decided to direct her anger outward at the child. "So what if I didn't rip them! Something did! And that makes them special! It gives them a soul! Unlike those corporate mass-produced slave labor pants everyone else wears!"

"How do you know what everyone else wears? They sell rippy stockings in stores that are already ripped - like the ones right here that are still in the package! The only story they tell is that someone mass producing them heard that ripped ones were popular and decided to make em. Besides, I didn't say your stockings were BAD, I just said they're selling stockings that have holes in them like you have. Why're you all upset just because they exist now? You don't have to explain them if you just like wearing them. Liking stockings with holes in them doesn't have to make sense - it's not like wearing a shirt that says grandma when you're not a grandma."

Molly pouted, her brows furrowing, and stomped a little. Weird girl!
