Currently I am pretty busy, and can't even manage to read through some of the work here, which I will get back to once some things settle; so, I just randomly got curious as to what you guys tend to name the people you create?
Honestly, some of the names I give mine are just awkward, but once they stick...they just stick and it's like, "that's totally you man, do you like your name?" Most of the times my characters do like them, some of the more arrogant ones scoff at them but who--I am sounding crazy...
Please don't snatch my names...I trust you guys to make your own, but here are some of the names of my characters: Augustus Plum, Canterbury McDappernickle III (See that? That's what I call weird, just...don't ask, he likes his name), Robert Highborne, Dr. Ivor Chopiak, Clydia Deverto and Dorsey Tran.

you're not the only one making strange names (atleast trying to) like Oushio Junius which was named by my friend Bob.

Mine are so much less interesting, and more based on origin.
Fujino Masako gets her last name from Fujino Shizuru of Mai-HiME, her original attitude inspiration. Her first name is written with the kanji for "truth" and - usually - "child" (a common name ending for Japanese women), but the second kanji can also be written as "fox" without changing the pronounciation.
She has evolved quite a bit since then, and Katherine Harkin takes her name from Sinead Harkin, the lead in Within Temptation's The Unforgiving, and her first name because it fits with being Irish.
With three exceptions, everyone in her stories is named after two people who had a influence on me in high school or college, one first name and one last name each. The exceptions are because of a pun, and because of being named long before Masako was running around.
Rory, I've explained in her story thread.
Verónica García Montilla, the lead in my NaNo story, gets her name largely from wikipedia. redface I confess I don't know much about Spanish culture.
Ashley Reynolds, the "sexed" lead in my abandoned love triangle, gets her first name from an Ashley I knew in high school - who was nothing like her. Reynolds comes from Firefly. That should tell you my intent with her.
Andrew Jacobs, the male lead in said love triangle, doesn't really have any special name origins. Just names I saw when I was looking for his.
Lydia ? - the "pure" lead in the triangle, was named because I was thinking about Beetlejuice not long before I created her. She never got a last name.
The rest of the names in that story were pretty much out of a hat, but happen to also be first names of people I used to know during high school.
Rose, the name of the companion/spy character whom I sometimes free write with, just seemed appropriate on every level. She's supposed to be pretty, have thorns, and, well, in the area I currently live in, it isn't uncommon to think of the name as a stripper/porn star name. She has no last name.
Her assistant, Jennifer, has no special meaning. Nor do any of Rose's clients or marks.
In an earlier abandoned work, I had a character named Jennifer Olivia Yates. Jennifer abbreviated to "Jenny," which is what I initially envisioned her being called (she was only 8 ). However, She had a nanny who went by Joy, who happened to be her older self. Olivia and Yates were the first two o and y names that came to mind to have her full name shorten to Joy. That was a damn convoluted story.
The only other stories I can think of involved characters used for RPGs (D&D, so no fanfics), and a Yume Verde. Yume's name means "green dream" in a horrible mix of Spanish and Japanese. Just like you should never mix Latin and Greek roots.
Bleh. I put way too much thought into some names.

Dj Amyz you're not the only one making strange names (atleast trying to) like Oushio Junius which was named by my friend Bob. Oh that seems a little hard to pronounce. Do you just randomly name them?
In my writing process, when I start out with the story instead of the character, my person is always PersonaUno and usually stays that way until at least 6k words in. I try to search for names but nothing suits them, so I just wait until the name finds my character.

Ushio is the name of some famous anime character (can't place him right now), and adding "o" in front of a name can signify respect. Or, ya know, is just part of their name.

LiaThistle Katherine Harkin Yume Verde. Bleh. I put way too much thought into some names. Those two really stood out to me. And what? Putting thought into names is wonderful! I do that with some characters, like Jade Blackwell. Her name is Jade for the belief of the stone that encouraged bravery and honesty, and Blackwell seemed powerful enough to tie it all together. But most of the time I just let their names come to me. You know how you continue to just write the person, and you know them so well by the end, and then there is just that name that comes out of nowhere and you realise "that's them"?
Edit: thank you for going into the detail of the Oushio name (:Haha, wouldn't doubt its existence. You have any other interesting names?

I can never go through sites and just randomly choose, I am really bad with doing so because it wouldn't feel right to me. Haha, it's like naming my own child and knowing they will forever be called such; I have to make some connection with it.

I just noticed that with your example of Momo, Mimi and Gigi, I actually had a friend named Gigi in high school--and most used the name to refer to someone being too skinny in my school lol

Edit: thank you for going into the detail of the Oushio name (:I used to be fluent in Japanese, which is why I'm fairly familiar with the kanji and the trickery in Masako's name. Fortunately, learning to read the roman interpretations is easy. All a's are "ah," all e's are "eh," all i's are "ee," all o's are "oh," and all u's are "oo." Everything else is phonetic. Understanding what you're saying, though...is much harder. Yume is a name I came up with in high school, for my writing class there. I was just beginning to get into Japanese then. Katie's name sticks out? Huh. Her name is the one that keeps surprising me. There's a Harkin Theaters that one of my friends lives near, and I named her just before Princess Kate was announced in England. sweatdrop Add to that, I keep finding random Harkins and Katherines, and...yeah, my head spins. Jade Blackwell is good. Jade, the stone, was also supposed to be able to hold a portion of one's soul, and could be quite the gift.
