Today was no fun at all. The bright rainbow patterned dogfox sat hunched under the trunk of a fallen tree in a think dark forest. She stuck out like a sore thumb with her bright colors contrasted again the dark, she knew but there was no where else she knew to go. Thunder cracked overhead and the rain that had already been falling for hours, at least half the day, thickened into a while wall in front of her. Her ears drooped as the rain fell harder around her. Mishka was soaked to the bone, cold, and shivering. This had to be the worst place ever. Hunting here was nearly impossible but she would have to find food at some point. And what about shelter? She couldn't see anything in all this rain. Filled with sadness, she let out a few small yips that turned almost into a howl at the end. She felt as if she'd never get out of this place and see sunshine again. Mishka didn't have to be able to see the sky to know that the clouds showed no sign of stopping or letting up any time soon.

Reyes was not having the best day. The storm had hit unexpectedly, taking the whole Tribe by surprise, jolting them out of their afternoon sleep. He wasn't supposed to be awake for another three hours, at least, but no, he'd been conscripted to help the scouts secure the borders.
"Stupid storm," Reyes muttered under his breath, a growl emerging from his chest. "Stupid, stupid storm." There was nobody around; everyone had retreated into the mountains or found other dry parts of the tribe; he was almost positive the entire tribe was safe and dry, except for him and the other dumb scouts who had to check the perimeter.
Then he heard, just barely over the storm, a couple of sad, plaintive yips. Was that--had he imagined it? Then he heard what we was pretty sure was a howl and he realized he had to follow it. Ears pricked forward now, alert to any other small noise. What if...oh Deities, what if someone was injured? What was he supposed to do? Nobody had told him what to do if he actually found someone!
He spotted a soaking wet, rainbow patterned body shivering beneath a tree. Before he even knew what he was doing, he was dashing over and skidding to a stop, mud splattering up but avoiding the tiny vixen.
"Are you okay? Are you hurt?" he blurted, silver eyes raking her body for any obvious malady or wound. He didn't see any, but he knew that didn't mean that there weren't any there. "Can you walk?" Please say yes, please say yes, he chanted mentally, because he was no healer, and he didn't think he could carry a fox all the way to the caves--if even the tribe proper. Please say yes.

Mishka had given up on the hope of being found by anyone awhile ago. The sound of the storm drowned out almost all other sounds in the forest. Only the sound of the thunder crashing over head could be heard over the drum of the water beating the earth.
So of course the male that materialized in front of her took Mishka by surprise. One moment she was all alone in the storm, the next moment, frantic eyes were taking in her soaking form and asking her questions. It took a moment for her to register what was happening. Someone had found her! There was another fox out here and he'd come to save her. Mishka had run into ill willed foxes before but she didn't feel the need, or the option really, to be fearful of the fox who was standing before her now.
"N-not h-hurt." She spoke through chattering teeth. "I...I think s-so." New adrenalin rushing through her, she stiffly rose to her feet. She hadn't realized how much energy she had used up shivering under that tree branch without food for so long. All of her muscles felt numb and stiff and ached when she rose. After a tentative step forward she nodded to dark male before her. "I can walk."

Reyes let out a breath of relief when she not only spoke but stood up to prove she could in fact walk. Lightning flashed in the not-so-far distance, revealing more of her rainbow coat, but Reyes for once didn't focus on the female's looks; he was entirely honed on getting her home safe.
"My name's Reyes," he said over the running thunder. "C'mon, we can take cover with the Tribe, it's not that far," he assured her, trying to find a balance between the full-out running that he wanted to do and the quick walk that seemed to be all she could handle at the moment.
He had never before wished to be any species besides his own, but when he was walking with her and trying to keep another person safe, he found himself wishing he had a pair of wings to shield her from the rain or the ability to carry her and fly them both to safety.
Thankfully, they weren't as far from the caves as he thought they were; they found a deep, high-ceilinged cave that was just waiting for them. He let her dive in first, then squirmed in after her, their bodies pressed close. He could feel her heart beating through her--was that a harness?--which meant she could probably feel his hammering away.
In spite of himself, he felt the need to try and recover some of his 'cool' factor, so he said, with as much mirth as he could manage (which wasn't much), "Hey there, nice to meet you,"

Mishka hesitated for one brief moment before falling into step with Reyes. Take cover with the Tribe he had said. So she was on tribe lands? If Reyes was a member of a tribe, he probably had that tribes tattoo somewhere on him, but Mishka didn't even attempt to spot it. She was doing good just to keep up with his dark figure as they traveled. Many foxes she had previously encountered were part of tribes or had told her of many different tribes and she hoped Reyes was taking her to one of the good ones.
So focused on her thoughts and keeping up with Reyes, Mishka didn't even see the opening into the cave until it was right in front of her. She wasted no time before darting into the cave. A small gasp escaped her as Reyes pressed against her. The heat from his body suddenly pressed against hers was a pleasant but unexpected surprise.
The running had warmed her up slightly so her teeth were no longer chattering and her shivers subdued. She turned her face towards Reyes and laughed. It was a quiet laugh but was full of joy and relief.
"I can not even begin to describe how nice it is to meet you, Reyes." She shook out her fur lightly, trying not to douse Reyes with any more water than necessary. "My name is Mishka. Thank you for getting me out of the rain."
