I actually believe this is false. Lesbians are more sexualized by society. *cough* Patriarchy *cough cough*

However, I do believe that gay people that can "pass" as straight are the most accepted, because everyone seems to get uncomfortable and pissed off if you try to challenge gender roles/play with gender. (Trans*women of color are, sadly, the most likely to be hated).

Overall, I don't think we should play "oppression olympics" like who has it worse, or compare scars, but I know that for most of my life I believed that lesbians were more accepted than gay men, until someone explained it to me this way. Now my perspective has changed and I just wanted to share this thought with you and see what you think. Maybe reading this will change your way of thinking, too?

Personally, I don't think that at all...

It doesn't matter who's accepted more into society, not all lesbians, especially trans aren't always accepted. The same goes for gay men as well.

Society is truly unfair sometimes...

I completely disagree with this ... its more about how vocal you are about being gay /lesbian ...not which you are!

Straight men tend to glorify lesbian behavior while straight women glorify gay men.

It's a consistent trend but it's not all inclusive.

That's pretty much the gist of it, straight men accept lesbians moreover than gay men, and straight women accept gay men over lesbians. The issue is more over how much said person feels towards society, like myself, I do believe lesbians are more accepted, but this is only because I base myself on the views of straight men. Just like a lesbian may base how she thinks and acts corresponding to straight women thinking that gay men may be more wildly accepted. This, of course is just my view on things.

i totally agree with this guy. i am super gay and because im not super butch or put the fact that im a lesbian out there im accepted more. I know alot of manly gay men that are accepted by some really big bigots and the only thing they say they dont like about gay men is when their super flamboyant.

I tend to agree with this :/ one issue being that a man's acceptance is preferable to female acceptance within an unfortunately patriarchal system...

One thing I hate is how after coming out as a lesbian, all of my experiences telling straight men has led to "That's hot." "Can I watch?" "I'd love to have a threesome with you." etc. It seems like just standard protocol of what a lesbian should accept when coming out to a straight man, and it is so frustrating.

I think we're taught to believe that "lesbians are more accepted" because of their inclusion (although I think mainly as gag/joke type roles) in tv and movies, or that women are more comfortable of the idea of women being gay than men are, but I think because women's views are not as valued in society as a whole, the er lack of acceptance of gay women by women is more understated so we believe that lesbians are more accepted.

I disagree. if you are a woman you are going to be called a hoe or slut sometime during your life no matter what you do or who you like, that just how women are treated

as bisexuals we can have an easier time passing as straight.

There's something about bisexual erasure though that I want to point out, I'm sure we've experienced this but this person put it in good words:
Bisexual guys are assumed to be secretly gay, bisexual girls are assumed to be secretly straight, both are assumed to secretly like men.

We live in a patriarchal society, men assume themselves to be the center of everything, and thus the focus of the attraction of others who are bisexual and like two genders (notably by most definitions men and women). Bisexual girls and women are often assumed to be “posing” for some sort of queer-popularity related reasons, and not to like women, but to like men. And bisexual men are assumed to be hiding homosexuality-liking men.
This is because of a combination of biphobia and erasure, and of living in a male-centric world. After all, if one was to assume bisexual people did not exist but lesbian, gay and straight identities did and the world was not biased towards men, the erasure would mean that bisexual people had a 50/50 chance of being gay vs straight in other people’s assumptions, regardless of their gender, but this is not the case.

I've never been called a hoe or slut just for being a woman. My own mother has told me that bisexuals are hoes and confused as well as they can't make up their own mind.

I think that people can find a way to hate you whoever you are, this is the sad truth about us as people. However I do think that straight males give gay males more of a hard time than lesbians, and straight females can also be very cruel towards lesbians more than towards gay males. But then again, this is just what I have seen, others could have very different opinions about it based on what they have seen, so really, I think both gay males and lesbians get the same amount of hate, but in different ways.
