The code of Chivalry is supose to be the code in which the mid-evil knights lived by or also "It is the sword with which the knight combats injustice, and the shield that defends against corruption." The code has been added to three times and now ends up as=
The Code and Measure.
THE CODE. Thou shalt respect the weak and constitute thyself the defender of them. Thou shalt love the land to which thou hast sworn fealty. Thou shalt not recoil before thine enemy. Thou shalt make war upon evil without cessation. Thou shalt scrupulously perform thy noble duties be they not contrary to the laws of the land. Thou shalt be generous and give freely to everyone. Thou shalt never lie and shall always be faithful to thy word. Thou shalt be everywhere and always the champion of the Right and the Good against Injustice and Evil.
THE MEASURE. A Knight is sworn to Valor; His heart must know only Virtue; His Perfect blade must defend the helpless, And his might shall uphold all weak. His breath shall bring a word that speaks only truth. His justly wrath shall undo the wicked.
The Virtues of Knighthood.
Prowess: To seek excellence in all endeavors expected of a knight, martial and otherwise, seeking strength to be used in the service of justice, rather than in personal grandizement.
Justice: Seek always the path of right, unencumbered by bias or personal interest. Recognize that the sword of justice can be a terrible thing, so it must be tempered by humanity and mercy.
Loyalty: Be known for unwavering commitment to the people and ideals you choose to live by. There are many places where compromise is expected; loyalty is not amongst them.
Defense: The knight is sworn by oath to defend his liege lord and those who depended upon him. Seek always to defend your nation, your family, and those to whom you have sworn to protect.
Courage: Being a knight often means choosing the more difficult path, the personally expensive one. Be prepared to make personal sacrifices in service of the precepts and people you value. At the same time, a knight should seek wisdom to see that stupidity and courage are cousins. Courage also means taking the side of truth in all matters, rather than seeking the expedient lie. Seek the truth whenever possible, but remember to temper justice with mercy, for the pure truth can bring grief.
Faith: A knight must stand firm in himself and in his beliefs, for this faith roots him and gives hope against the despair.
Humility: Value first the contributions of others; do not boast of your own accomplishments, let others do this for you. Tell the deeds of others before your own, according them the renown rightfully earned through virtuous deeds. In this way the office of knighthood is well done and glorified, helping not only the gentle spoken of but also all those who may be called knights.
Largesse: Be generous in so far as your resources allow; largesse used in this way counters gluttony.
Nobility: Seek great stature of character by holding to the virtues and duties of a knight, realizing that though the ideals cannot be reached, the quality of striving towards them ennobles the spirit. Nobility also has the tendency to influence others, offering a compelling example of what can be done in the service of rightness.
Franchise: Seek to emulate the Code as sincerely as possible, not for the reason of personal gain but because it is right. Do not restrict your exploration to a small world, but seek to infuse every aspect of your life with these qualities. Should you succeed in even a tiny measure then you will be well remembered for your quality and virtue.
In addition to the Virtues of Knighthood, Knights of Syraandor must uphold the Code and Measure, a number of tenets or commandments, which embody the meaning of Nobility. The Code and Measure are similar in many lands throughout the world, suggesting they originate from an ancient, widespread source. Some sages speculate that good Dragonkind began the tradition, but there is no way to be certain.
This all may be so, but what if an Knight were to go against any of this? Discuss- Punishments The Real Punishment

O_O
In the book "Tirant Lo Blanc" (which I'm currently reading for Medieval Mediterranean Lit), non Chivalrous Knights are tied up against a wall where everyone goes on about his disgrace, and they strip off all his armor piece by piece, pausing between each one by dumping a bucket of boiling water on his face. Then they tie him up and make him march backwards into the church while the knights all throw stuff and yell at him where he must renounce his name of knighthood and be given a vile name that he must bear for the rest of his life in shame.
Oh yeah, read about Tirant. You'll then learn more about Chivalry than you ever want to know.....

The only problem with modern society is that no form of chivalry seems to exist anymore. While I don't think people should be humiliated and punished for not being chivalrous. I also think it's not THAT hard to open a door for a lady.

There's politeness, then there's chauvanism; unfortunately, Chivalry tends towards the "incapable women" category of chauvinism; feminism, in a way, killed chivalry by making the category of chauvinist likely to be chivalrous be afraid to do so.

I also think it's not THAT hard to open a door for a lady.Well I take my time to be chivalrous to women and men alike, but the reason may be because most everyone thinks they're in a rush to be somewhere fast, and therefore, don't have time to give a damn and open a door. Which brings me to this topic: What do the people here think of modern society?

Koiyuki Which brings me to this topic: What do the people here think of modern society? Personally, I like it. I'm free to marry who I want, to live how I want, and to get the education and the privileges that only rich people used to dream of. I'm able to socialize with people of all races, ethnicities, and ages, and no one makes me wear make up, uncomfortable clothing, or act in a silly feminnine way against my will. I personally think that most people are QUITE concientious of one another and I've had many people be polite to myself and others around me, while I've done the same for others. Pay it forward, I always say. The good that you do for others will radiate outward and affect SO many more people if you do.

Koiyuki Which brings me to this topic: What do the people here think of modern society? Society in general disgusts me. Most people of this day and age fall into 2 categories, both of them self important and self-serving.
First there are those who run around with their head shoved up their own a**. They don't give a damn about others as long as they achieve their own ends. This is the type of person that will watch somebody get shot, step over him and continue on about his business. It's not necessarily greed that motivates them... just blind ambition.
Then there are those overhelpful people who want to help you do everything. Your all of a sudden incapable of taking care of yourself. These people offend easily and try to change things you do with INTERVENTIONS. Your either saying things they don't like, doing things they don't like, or watching things they don't like. They are going to interrupt your life and try to change it because they want to help you. Bullshit, they want to mindlessly conform you to their point of view.
All the normal people seem to have departed from society. There are a few of us still around...you just have to look for them. Not knowing the people of this guild very well, I make no judgements as to where on this scale of mine you fall. Hell, I'm unable to place myself on the scale at times. However, there you have it... My overall view on modern society: Contempt and Disgust.

It would make sence that the punishment would be so severe... but still ouch...

Well, I think Modern Society is starting to go insane - in terms that we are becoming too materialistic for our own good, and here I agree with Erich Fromm that we really need more love in our lives, not coldness.
I am tired of the fact that one needs to be a stick in order to be perfect mating material - one would think the bigger a female is, the better chances of survival of both mother and child is better. No offense to any ladies in here of differing sizes! I don't understand why we need to make ourselves look perfect in order to be considered normal - normal is supposed to be the happy average, not what's above or below average.
I am tired of all these companies pumping junk in our veins just for the sake of profit, at the sake of our health. I know we can "say no". But honestly, how many health food restaurants are present in comparison to junk food outlets? And at the same "affordable" price?
Whatever happened to family life, one of togetherness and enjoyment of each others' company? Right now we appease our children with gifts of toys or grants of money, instead of spending quality time. If we are to punish them, few parents lecture their kids anymore it seems, it's more of a case of "No more internet for you for a month!!"
There is a lot of good that remains in our society, but it's starting to get bulldozered over by modern technology and the change of norms and values that are rapidly taking place.
