Beg favour of the tongues. That no interruption come by careless, or ominous, word. Nor deed. Nor aught that moved that was fearful or foe. Thraen sat securely up a massive Oak on Woodland Avenue, a residential lane with sprawling Victorian and Edwardian manors that now belonged mostly to new money. The grand vista yards had been parceled off for newer, two-by-four and drywall manses during the dotcom boom. It was an exclusive neighborhood, which seemed to mean it was pretty quiet in the evening. There were less affluent neighborhoods nearby, but they didn't have trees nearly so old and large.
There was a 'primer', how depressingly elementary school, on the phone that the fluffy cat had given him, and he was slowly thumbing through it. It mentioned a radar sense, which seemed useful to try out. Really it made him think of comic books and 'spidey sense', difficult to take seriously except for the fact that he had jumped straight up into the tree he was in without problem and was ....wearing whatever it was one could describe his 'uniform' as...none of it among his primary personal fashion choices.
He shifted to the high branches and closed his eyes, listening to the night sounds painfully, slowing his breathing, trying everything he could to reach out with his awareness. To feel as if there were something to feel. Some 'friendly' or 'dark' sense in the neighborhood around. There was something...but he had no idea if it was 'friendly'. He wasn't feeling warm and fuzzy like hot chocolate or blankets from a dryer anyway. He didn't feel like vomiting either.

With the thought of keeping his routes of patrol from becoming too predictable or trackable by persons that might wish to cause him harm, Aegir tended to vary the areas he tracked through. It was completely opposite from the way he and his boyfriend plotted out their jogs (the routine had once helped them find each other during a very odd time!). But so far, he'd found to reason to extend his cruise into the new-money area of homes; it was just very quiet between all those gingerbread-edged houses and old-fashioned architecture - whether they were still single homes or changed into something else with the growth of Destiny City.
Truthfully, he just liked the trees and the way he could perch in them to watch the world go by while resting fairly comfortably. Colin knew that he couldn't be the only one that found them so calming and pleasant.
Having kicked a youma butt not two days prior, Aegir wanted a calm night; if he got one, it would be a miracle, but he could still dream, right?
A small tingle danced along his spine, tickling his senses: a senshi was near. A normal senshi, not Dark Mirror! Aegir grinned and switched his heading toward the source of the stationary signal. 'Higher up, huh? Must be in the trees - just where I'd be!' Colin grinned to himself but did wonder if this would be a friendly sort...or if perhaps there could be some strange new trap in place, something that mimics the energy signature of an Order-based Senshi. Best to be a little wary, right?
So instead of just meandering all jovial-like into view-space like the villiage idiot, he moved with calm purpose, looking around carefully; ready in case some attack - magic or otherwise - was lobbed his way.

It was certain! There was something. Or someone. Thraen opened his eyes and looked around at the street below-left, right, ahead, behind. He loved trees. Sniper books really were right in calling them birds nests and the primo for getting an idea of what moved around in a location. In the growing dim, the pale cream and gold of the approaching uniform seemed luminescent.
Well...the whole point of this exercise was...trying to meet someone, right? Good or bad. He hoped for the better. Nothing like being suave about it either, "Heyyyyy!"
He waved from his perch in the high branches, lost balance a little and gripped the trees more for a moment, then lifted his hand again. "Up here!"

Energy signature all but atop his head, Aegir paused and started peering up at the overhanging branches, but thankfully the person called out to him first; white hair, green and blue and white - no wonder he'd been partially hidden, he had quite a bit of greenery in the costume. At least, it seemed to be boy - no breasts and the voice wasn't high pitched, it was safe to say this was another guy. If it wasn't...well, it didn't matter.
"Hello yourself!" Aegir grinned up at the perched senshi, "Nice perch. I'm Sailor Aegir. Shall I come up?" Sure, the guy had almost lost his balance for a moment there, but...if they were both sitting up in the tree, there was much less chance of someone spotting their pale fukus right out...less chance of being attacked or noticed.
With that, he hopped up into another of the high branches that put him quite near the unknown senshi; trying to present as harmless a picture as he possibly could so that he didn't accidentally cause a scare.

"Oh, do feel welcome. Not like I own the street. Or the tree." Thraen shifted back towards the safety of the thicker, more stable wood nearer the trunk. He tried to beam a friendly smile when the other landed in the nest as well. "Thraen. It's a pleasure, I hope. I...haven't met any others...so let me know if I do anything untoward. If there's any sort of etiquette. Comics don't inform much on superheros and villainy, and wearing ridiculous costumes. " "I....uh.." leotard? It WAS another guy and he was wearing something better suited to...not battle. He suddenly felt a lot better about his own 'uniform'. "I guess none of us get much choice in get ups. A red coat or brown pants seem better than white breeches and flower petals. So...you found a talking cat too?"

"Thanks." Thraen. Now wasn't that an interesting sounding name? Colin wondered what it might mean; his apparently related to some weird Saturnine star or other (he hadn't put that much effort into his search, having been distracted by other things at that moment). Thraen looked friendly and was smiling, so it seemed they both wanted to sit in the tree, be friendly and chat about things that related to both of them. Like being senshi, wearing funky clothes...that sort of thing.
"Pleasure's mine. I haven't gotten to meet many Senshi like us. Guys, that is." He chuckled a little bit, expression bright and open. "Don't worry, you haven't done anything weird or strange..." Stranger or weirder than just being a Senshi would already classify them as, at any rate. "I wish comics had prepaired me for this - apparently something called 'manga' from Japan and China is a little more helpful, but..." Colin sighed a little, shifting to find a slightly more comfortable perch, "You're right about the costuming. I'd like to register a complaint with the designer. This get-up would be better on a female ice-skater, not someone that's supposed to kick the bad-guy's butt!" But Thraen's own costume wasn't too overly bad; not the greatest thing ever, but at least he was covered! "Mmmhmm...I've actually met a couple now, but Derpraline was the first, and the one that "found" me. The whole talking cat thing still sort of weirds me out, but you do get used to it. A little."
"Um...so what, er, how much did your talking cat tell you?"

"Oh, just some basics, but there's like...a wiki on the weird phone. Eternal Sailor Kallichore made an old school primer that I've been slowly wading through. I mean...reading on a phone couldn't be more inefficient, really, comparatively to books or computer screens. But use what you have, I guess. " "Then there's the whole difference between the written word and actual real life experience. I mean... like even simulators...there's just a difference in the field compared to just reading about something. SO..." "I guess It all shows...I'm really new. I spoke with a...cat...named *********. " "Are...there not many ...guys? Are most scouts women?"

"Yeah...that wasn't there when I started. It's been super helpful since it came up - but like you say, reading that much on the phone is pretty tedious." He shrugged a little bit about that; other than reading Senshi-related stuff, sending Senshi-related messages or talking to - well, one get's the picture, doesn't one? - the phones weren't really useful for too much more. "It's nice having it. When I met 'Pray, I pretty much muddled about looking like a lost ice-skater and bumping heads with the Negaverse until I got some pointers from Sailor Castor." Poor Sailor Castor...whatever had happened to him couldn't have been pretty; even if he didn't know for sure what had happened, the fact that no messages were returned for so long, that no signs of the other Senshi could be found in ages, did not bode well. Colin assumed that the Negaverse had claimed Castor and unless someone could prove otherwise, that's what he would go with. This new guy seemed nice. And pretty damned smart - not just book-smart but also (apparently) street-smart, which would hold him in good stead in his 'new life' as a walking fashion statement against the Negaverse. "Common sense helps a lot, you'd be amazed how often the Negaverse falls over itself. The Lieutenants, anyway. But I figure they're just like us - some are smarter, some aren't." He pushed one hand through blond curls and cocked his head a bit, thinking. "If you want, we could spar sometime. It's not the best experience you can get, but...fighting's fighting, right? I wonder if I could catch one of those youma things...Castor did that. Caught one and then loosed it on me for practice." Did he mention Castor was something of a bro-d**k? Like, the big brother that wanted you to do well, but also wanted to be sure you got the snot pounded out of you so you'd know better? Colin had liked him. Colin was a puppy. "*********? Never met her...I wonder if she knows Derpraline." Hell, maybe he should see if he could meet ********* too - it wasn't like he'd ever met a Guardian cat that had all it's marbles there...as much as he liked the derpy little kitten with the waffle fetish, she had flat-out told him that she needed help from other Cats. Boy or girl. Boy or girl...Ah, the age old (or was it?) question of gender in the scout world. "I'm not sure, but it seems so. I've met only you and Castor...but a whole bunch of girls. Ones like us an then ones that are sort of like us, but have a different energy to them. Have you heard about the Dark Mirror Senshi at all? I guess what I should say is, d'you have any questions I might answer?"

"Oh, I ....uh.. I only got so far as the entry on 'Power Levels'. Guardian Cats, Senshi and Power levels and ...sensing. That is what I was practicing. I'm. .... really new. Like...this is the first time I've put on uniform and gone out, actually, outside of meeting ********* the first thing, oh, I'm sorry, person, I've sensed. Met. " Castor, Derpraline, plainly names how they were used. Derpraline sounded to be a cat. "Is the poor thing very ridiculous to have a name like 'Derpraline' ? I mean.. Derp as a term hasn't been around many years. And it only has one meaning I know of. Is it a combination of Derp and Praline?" Like Praline and Cream ice cream? Maybe it was a very cute, very ridiculous cat. He couldn't get much of a read on Castor from the language. Who they were other than another guy that was a scout and apparently had helped Aegir out. "Sparring sounds like a really generous offer. ANything has to be better than nothing. I've never been in a fight. Not even when I was small. No siblings, either, so no slap contests even. But the whole business does sound like a lot of ....fighting. Even the ...well. I guess its a title, isn't it? 'Sailor Senshi' is 'Sailor Soldier' roughly rendered. We're supposed to be soldiers." "I couldn't feel less like one in a petal corset, honestly, " he looked over at Aegir through his bangs, holding his hands palm up in emphasis. They were rough, calloused from stoneworking and metal twisting for sculpture, but they were thin and they were white. Unstained. "Any advice you can offer, I would be glad for. I'm not sure what I could offer in return. But I have this phone. I could come and help if you ever needed. Or try to. "

"Ohhh, that makes sense. I thought you might be patrolling, but you weren't moving around so..." Basically, he'd thought that Thraen (unknown at the time) was someone on patrol resting for a minute; the thought that Aegir might find a brand-spanking new baby scout hadn't even crossed his mind. But then again, he had no idea how many senshi there were, or guardian cats or anything else - their numbers were secretive for good reason! "Wow, then I really did catch you new, didn't I?" Colin chuckled and shook his head a little bit; his open attitude plainly one of amusement and some excitement. Derp. What to say about the little cross-eyed kitten? "Well..kind of. She's tiny and cross-eyed and loves waffles. I'm not sure how or why someone would have a name like that, but...hey, talking cats and magical ice-skating costumes." "Yep. And don't worry about the fighting thing, I can show you a few tricks that'll work no matter how big your opponent. I've had to end a bunch of fights my whole life, so it's not a big deal. Plus, we're supposed to work together to protect this planet and it's people, right?" The flower-clad scout's hands were roughened enough that he wondered how the boy had gotten them that way, "Advice? Don't underestimate yourself but don't over do it too. Most of what I can tell you is common sense stuff." It was part of the reason he'd offered to help teach him how to fight - he could defend himself, no matter how pretty-pretty-princess he happened to look in his fuku. "Don't worry about anything like that. You don't owe me anything, just be there if I need back-up!" He grinned; after a moment his face faltered a bit, some memory coming to the fore, "Oh, actually...the primer didn't say anything about it, but Sailor Castor told me that a lot of Senshi are seeking the 'Moon Princess'. They haven't found her yet, but apparently it's a really big deal to some of us." A little shrug and Colin took a moment to look about with eyes and energy, making sure there wasn't danger about, "A long time ago the Princess of the Moon - Serenity - fell in love with the Prince of the Earth - Endymion - but the Negaverse didn't want them together or something like that. I guess that's kind of how the war on Earth started...I wish I knew more of the lore so I could tell you more about it, but I only got to talk to Castor once. After that, he just...disappeared. I think maybe someone in the Negaverse took him out; which is scary as hell, 'cause he wasn't weak. The guy captured a live youma for me to practice fighting with, for heaven's sake! Those things aren't exactly the easiest things in the world to beat." "Something to keep in mind, not all of the 'bad guys' want to fight. I know it was mentioned in that primer, but it's true. I've talked to Sailor Navi of the Dark Mirror before, she's nice-" Colin explained what she looked like, including raising his hand up to show how tall she'd been against him (not that he was tall or anything) before continuing. "And Chariklo, she's a Dark Mirror senshi too - but she's got a nasty temper and tried kicking my butt before she'd talk to me really. She's a strange looking girl with a nice rack." Again, he described the girl as best he could, not knowing if it would help Thraen or not in the future. A thought came to him, "So Thraen...do you know what your attack is? We all have like, one specialized magic attack...do you know if you've got a defensive or offensive attack? Mine's a little bit of both..." He wouldn't discuss this with someone else, but...he was curious and it wouldn't hurt if Thraen knew - or it seemed like it wouldn't.

He listened to all of it at first, giving no reply but eyes grown wide and thoughtful. Were cats supposed to eat waffles? He didn't think so. But neither were they supposed to talk, and ********* had. And here they both were, supposedly reasonable men, dressed like theater rejects and up a tree no one had any business getting into without a fireman's ladder.
"Patrolling? Oh, are there assigned hours and routes? I hadn't got to a part about that yet. So if people are looking...for...a moon princess, you say...then...this is a monarchy? Who gives the assignments? Who is regent in the stead? Is there a commander at arms, as a sword to serve the regent? I mean, some regent in history lead their own armies well enough. "
"Defensive...attack? Isn't that almost an oxymoron?"

"No assigned routes, really...but some have their 'favored' places to prowl for evil. When I go out I tend to stick to the same areas unless I sense trouble somewhere specific." A shrug shifted the silky, golden material that made up the curling neckline of his costume; as far as he knew there was no giant bulletin board posted at a Senshi Central somewhere for each soldier to mark their route(s). "I think, from what I read in that Primer, yes. There are apparently other princesses right now - but I suppose the moon princess is special because she's supposed to have been the 'star-crossed lover' to the prince of the Earth." Aegir shook his head a bit, "It's a really convoluted story that would make Shakespeare clap his hands with glee, I bet." As for who handed out assignments...well, that he did not know - nor did he have any idea how to find out. "Not sure about the rest...but if the Eternal that wrote the Primer knows of the other princesses, she might know the answers - or might be able to put us in contact with someone that does?" "You would think so, but...like. Well, my 'attack' for example seems like some sort of defensive movement, but I can also use it to cause damage if I really want." How to explain? Aegir's 'attack' was to mute spells, voices...that sort of thing. But it took the shape of a rope or chain...and as long as he was still holding onto it, he could totally strangle someone with it. "Okay. So-" And here, taking a big step of faith because he had a really good feeling about Thraen (he had a good feeling about almost everyone, but that's a moot point) and wanted to not sound like a freaking moron to this new 'friend', did Sailor Aegir try to explain what he meant.

"Well...I haven't...so much USED my magic yet. So I don't really know what it does. " "In face of your explanation I'm somewhat speechless about my own bullet-points and particulars other than Step 1 - met cat. Step 2 - joined the magical glitternakedtransformation brigade. Step 3 - felt a little emasculated being covered in flower petals and flowers." "So any help is appreciated so I don't make any more of an jerk of myself than just walking onto a battlefield and calling myself a soldier does to begin with."

"Understandable, since you haven't used it. Can't know until you try." Colin took on an expression of shared pain and understanding at Thraen's voicing of Step 3 - he too had felt a bit emasculated with his costume, though he'd gotten over it pretty quickly once he reasoned that it was no worse than some of the leotards and costuming he'd worn for dance-related occasions. "If I hadn't spent years dancing in a leotard, I wouldn't have been able to stand being dressed like... this." He gestured at his body and ballet-style "boots" that twined up his legs. "But don't feel that bad...you've got more on than I do, and more on than most of the female senshi seem to." Not that he'd know from much experience, but more from hearing about their dress. "Why don't we get together later today and do some sparing? Or maybe we could just find a more...isolated place to do now? Then you could use your magic on me and we can figure out what you've got to work with?" Colin wouldn't have minded either way, he just didn't want to call too much attention to them...getting the Negaverse's attention was easy...getting rid of it, with a somewhat inexperienced senshi and a newly-minted one, was likely a good deal harder.

"Oh...I suppose latter is perfectly reasonable. I don't want to take up all your night- or...your patrol, I guess. If that was what you were off to. It is getting on to an odd hour. I could try to finish more of the primer and be less hopeless by then." "What would be good for you? " Aegir wore leotards a lot? Why would someone CHOOSE to do that? Different strokes for different folks maybe. But he was right, a corset was better than leotards, made of pretty petals or not. "I'll leave the leotards to you, I hope, then. I've stuck to jeans and t-shirts my whole life, so breeches and frills is a bit out of my comfort zone." Most of all because breeches were really awful hugging. How did equestrians and jockeys wear these and DO anything?
