Yes and no.
I'm a girl. An emotional one. I have feelings and like lovey dovey things. So therefore, i like the thought that valentines day can be romantic. I like romance. And my boyfriend got me a valentine's/birthday gift (a mug with a stuffed tiger holding a rose in it). And I got him chocolates.
No, because it's another day that's stressful. Why should there be a day to celebrate being together? There's not a day to celebrate being single, or widowed, or divorced, or anything else. It's mostly a money making holiday, and it's annoying.

I like valentines day. 3nodding Sure, it's stressful, but isn't every holiday? And i know for couples it's just one of those days where the world revolves around the both of you. That's important. Last year my boyfriend went out during his off period to buy me a bouquet of roses and other flowers wrapped in cloth and a bow, and inbetween the stem of each flower were pieces of my favorite candies. And also a love note. (Don't I feel stupid? My love note revolved around ducks.) Anyways, I imagine that for adults who may never get the chance to focus on their relationship...specifically people who are very work-heavy... Valentines day is an important addition.
@Rya
Everyday is a celebration of being single. It just is what you make of it. Going out clubbing...having a great time...stress free... all the good stuff. And there shouldn't be a day celebrating being widowed or divorced because those aren't things to be celebrated. At least not in my culture. Death? The loss of love? These are things to remember, for sure, but not to shower with praise and gratitude. neutral

Meh, it's just like any other day for me. I mostly just celebrate my birthday instead of the actual holiday. People tend to tell me, "Your birthday's on Valentine's Day?That's cool, that means you get double the gifts."
Yeah, not the case. emotion_8c Maybe when I finally get a significant other, it might. But even then, it's not necessary.

Every day should be a celebration of who you are and who you are with, no matter who they are.
I do know many people that would celebrate their divorce days. Many people I know have been married and divorced. Because we fall into this assumption that being together forever will ALWAYS be good and wonderful.
Like I said, I have two sides of this. I am a romantic. I'll fall into the above category of people who think marriage and relationships will last forever and things will always be good and wonderful without any effort. However, based on my sister's marriage, I realize you have to put in what you get out. If you don't put in much, don't expect much.
*shrug* I'm just a weirdo

ah yes the valentines day debate that has happened every single year since its inception ive never done anything for valentines day in my life because my birthday is 6 days afterward so it's like i get a free pass to completely ignore all that noise
i did get a chalk candy heart that said 'fax me' in 8th grade though and that was pretty great
