EDIT: Heh...I weote this this morning and I guess I never hit "post"
sweatdrop Apoligies that some of my comments are repeats ^^
The Chort
I remember when the Leather Collar with Cross was
really popular. I heard that one sold for 20k!
eek Mwahahaha! I sold the first Leather Collar with Cross in the Exchange back when it was new...I actually wanted to keep it, but the GENer in me couldn't resist generating the first sale on a new uncommon and recording it
xd *ahem*
Here are two reasons I see for the prices dropping ^^
1) The Marketplace.
Lots of people are trying to undercut each other there, which seems to drive the prices down...check out the current listings(if poor Leon is working again) and look at the prices for trunks. A majority are 2k. That means anyone hoping to sell their trunk fast is going to lower the price of the buy it now - not by much - all you need to do is lower the price of yours by 50 to 100g and chances are you'll sell before all of those 2k trunks.
Eventually, activity like this drives the price down(at least in the Marketplace) because the new average price becomes 1950, 1900, etc...
Though, naturally, there is an invisible bar somewhere - an amount that the majority will, for the most part, refuse to dip below. Perhaps 2k is this magic number?
Another aspect of the Marketplace is the immediate purchase of trunks 24-hours a day(er...when Leon is healthy =-) It use to be you would have to track down someone selling in the Exchange who was actually on-line and could complete the trade if you wanted your trunk ASAP. There were a lot fewer trunks available to the buyer who would then pay more because it was the only way to get the trunk
now.
In the same regard, trunk items themselves are now easily attainable in much the same manner - why buy a trunk and leave things up to chance when you could buy the item you really want from it for only a few k more?
2) No new flurry of popular trunk items.
When you compare the release of the of the Prisinor clothes and accessories and the other "new" trunk items to the batch of new items that contained the Cross Collar, Studded Collar, Headgears(remember when they sold for like 5k each? =-p and so on the enthusiasm towards the items is noticably less. Less enthusiasm means more people willing to wait until the price has dropped considerably or many people simply not caring about these items at all. This second group then helps to flood the market if they do obtain the items, thus driving prices down even quicker.
3) There are simply more trunk items than ever before...and more items means there is less of a chance of getting exactly what you want or one of the few things that you want out of a trunk. The
odds are against you. Again, this drives down trunk prices because it's often easier to complete a goal for an item by selling any trunks you find and simply applying what you make to the price of a, say 4or5k uncommon that you want - with two or three trunks sales you have enough money to buy your item. Whereas if you open those two or three trunks chances are high that you'll get 3 virtually worthless items(say, all three headgears?
blaugh )
