Alright, I know you guys from the way back GEN at least remember this, and no doubt any users who came before november ish...

Remember back when you could drop into the exchange and with a bit of effort and good timing sell an Enchanted Trunk for 4k?
then this drop happened and it's damn hard for even 2.5k ish.......

Jog my memory - What happened? I mean deep down a lot of people knew that most of the items available inside the Trunk aren't even worth 1.1k, but they still sold high for those few good things. What was it that started up the price drop?
I'm pretty sure it happened near the end of October or something right?

I recently got an ET and started wondering [currently wonder what to try and sell it for..or maybe justopen it neutral ]
and also on the topic, there was a few month span where the angelic/nightmare headbands dropped reallly low... like 12-18k low. Was there a sudden influx of them, or did something happen?

I remember those times... I sold a trunk for 4k back then and I bought an Angelic Headband for 14k. @.@

1) Maybe people started to realize the chances of making profit of a trunk is ridiculous...? confused Maybe some of the items in the trunks dropped in price? I remember when the Leather Collar with Cross was really popular. I heard that one sold for 20k! eek But a lot of the prices for trunk items dropped.

2) Headbands... Was that when minis and headbands started to get closer in price? If so, maybe the minis were stealing the headbands thunder. domokun

Oh, and one other thing: Christmas. When that Christmas donating thing happened, a LOT of gold dissapeared. Maybe people got more desperate to get gold and sold things for less.

I remember selling my first 5 trunks in the exchange for about 4k each. That must've been 6-7 months ago. Now I sell them for like 2.3k sad

I agree with the Chort. Also, the blue boxes are keeping the prices of both pink boxes and trunks down. It is in between the rarity of the other two, but it is creating a higher supply of both rares and uncommons as well as taking some demand away from the other two containers.

And the Marketplace may be contributing to overall price drops. I noticed that, slowly, the prices of many rares and uncommons falls--and not just the new items. Between splitting up much of the Exchange group into Marketplace goers and Exchange goers and providing a readily accessible list for price comparison through the search function, the Marketplace forces people to compete in trying to sell items. Especially with the more prolific items (hockey masks, mummy masks, etc.), prices go lower and lower as people continuously try to price lower than others.

The Marketplace probably has a greater effect than just Exchangers going there. It's far easier to access and use than the Exchange. You don't have to bump or haggle, so many who otherwise were too lazy to sell their items have now crept on to the scene.

EDIT: Heh...I weote this this morning and I guess I never hit "post" sweatdrop Apoligies that some of my comments are repeats ^^

I remember when the Leather Collar with Cross was really popular. I heard that one sold for 20k! eek

Mwahahaha! I sold the first Leather Collar with Cross in the Exchange back when it was new...I actually wanted to keep it, but the GENer in me couldn't resist generating the first sale on a new uncommon and recording it xd

*ahem*

Here are two reasons I see for the prices dropping ^^

1) The Marketplace.
Lots of people are trying to undercut each other there, which seems to drive the prices down...check out the current listings(if poor Leon is working again) and look at the prices for trunks. A majority are 2k. That means anyone hoping to sell their trunk fast is going to lower the price of the buy it now - not by much - all you need to do is lower the price of yours by 50 to 100g and chances are you'll sell before all of those 2k trunks.
Eventually, activity like this drives the price down(at least in the Marketplace) because the new average price becomes 1950, 1900, etc...
Though, naturally, there is an invisible bar somewhere - an amount that the majority will, for the most part, refuse to dip below. Perhaps 2k is this magic number?
Another aspect of the Marketplace is the immediate purchase of trunks 24-hours a day(er...when Leon is healthy =-) It use to be you would have to track down someone selling in the Exchange who was actually on-line and could complete the trade if you wanted your trunk ASAP. There were a lot fewer trunks available to the buyer who would then pay more because it was the only way to get the trunk now.
In the same regard, trunk items themselves are now easily attainable in much the same manner - why buy a trunk and leave things up to chance when you could buy the item you really want from it for only a few k more?

2) No new flurry of popular trunk items.
When you compare the release of the of the Prisinor clothes and accessories and the other "new" trunk items to the batch of new items that contained the Cross Collar, Studded Collar, Headgears(remember when they sold for like 5k each? =-p and so on the enthusiasm towards the items is noticably less. Less enthusiasm means more people willing to wait until the price has dropped considerably or many people simply not caring about these items at all. This second group then helps to flood the market if they do obtain the items, thus driving prices down even quicker.

3) There are simply more trunk items than ever before...and more items means there is less of a chance of getting exactly what you want or one of the few things that you want out of a trunk. The odds are against you. Again, this drives down trunk prices because it's often easier to complete a goal for an item by selling any trunks you find and simply applying what you make to the price of a, say 4or5k uncommon that you want - with two or three trunks sales you have enough money to buy your item. Whereas if you open those two or three trunks chances are high that you'll get 3 virtually worthless items(say, all three headgears? blaugh )

it's too bad they lost their values...although i always sell them for 3k, even now when the price is like around 2k, i'm still able to sell them at 3k 3nodding

I don't think so. I think it happened shortly before because I had to sell one of my headbands to get the minis [got my minis for 24k! woohoo!!]

Ahh, the memories of Last Year Gaia... right up there with the Halloween issues and the tree...

I'm still remembering the time back in September when I got my Angelic Headband... traded 25k+September Letter to get it... gonk

Headbands used to be worth around 40k, then as the Minis got more popular, their value gradually declined.
