Since our monthly contests seem to be dead in the water, the guild staff will be posting monthly prompts instead. These prompts are not contests, you are not competing against your fellow guildies, there will be no prize for completing these prompts. This is simply for fun/inspiration. Something to get the creative juices flowing.

Monthly Prompt - February 2013:

[ 1929 Massacre ]
PostPosted: Fri Feb 01, 2013 3:20 pm

Can I maybe give some feedback here?
I just want to point out that '1929 Massacre' isn't really a prompt.
A prompt is something like a statement that entices and promotes writers to think in depth about a subject.
While I love the idea of monthly prompts, I think it would be more helpful if you gave us something more thought evoking than a time and an event.
Maybe you could develop '1929 Massacre' into a prompt.
Sorry if posting this here is off topic. You can delete this post if you see fit.

Thank you very much for your feedback. Although, in the future, a more appropriate place for it would be the Suggestion and Feedback Sticky in the main forum, I will address your concerns here.

Yes, a Prompt is something that entices authors to write. That sparks inspiration. However, a prompt need not be a full statement. A prompt can be something as simple as one word that that invokes or expresses an idea. Likewise a prompt can have no words at all and simply be an image or a sound.

If you would like to see longer prompts like what they give you in school I'll see what I can do.

You can of course delete mine as well, but I think her point is that 1929 Massacre is an appropriate prompt for history essay or even an original work guild, but not so much for a fanfiction one. Perhaps something more evocative than a historical event IRL? Even an image would be an improvement...
