Walking into the room, her blue dress swayed around her ankles with ease. She was always wearing odd clothes, but honestly, she was magic born. It meant that she was in fact, different. She had no parents, only that fated with or warlock whom she would serve faithfully, until the day of her demise. Demise, such a ...negative word, when truly it means the same as death. For her kind, death is all there is. They are bound to their witch or warlock, thought some unseen force, and can only be released through death. It is in their nature so search out this bonded person, to whom they shall spend their lives serving, but she has chosen to take a break and attend the Academy. This was her senior year. She was nervous as to how the following year would go. Would she stay and become a teacher like the ghost who wanders the halls and teaches in the choir room? Or would she leave to continue her search?

She grabbed a plate and sat down at a nearby table. She often cared little to what was going on with others around the school, but not because she was mean. She simply has a different mind set, and sometimes people have a hard time understanding her, and she them. It can create, unneeded tension.

~ The Sarcastic Angel ~

Ash walked into the Cafeteria, shirt off and Wings visible. He didn't care about the way he looked because he would Zap anyone if they tried. He smiled and winked at a few of the other Angel, who giggled and swooned and he laughed and walked until a small Junior Familiar blocked his path. "Hey, Ash? Are those Wings?" Ash sighed and then shook his head, in mock sadness. "No Tommy. These are massive legs sprouting out of my back." Tommy pouted and then walked away and Ash laughed. He yawned as he gathered his food and then paused when he saw another Familiar sitting by herself. He laughed softly and walked up to her and said softly, "Being alone isn't fun, darling." He sat down across from her and he smiled. "My name is Acheron. Or Ash." He smiled politely at her and laughed again.

He didn't really know what to say to a familiar. They were different from the Angels, so Ash didn't really spend much time talking to them. But she was rather captivating. He smiled slightly and then flicked his black hair out of his eyes and ruffle his oddly colored wings. As an Angel, his wings were supposed to be white or a lighter color. But Acheron's were a black color. The other Angels didn't know why this was so, so they disregarded the color and accepted him as an angel. Some people said it was because of his personality, but he really didn't care. He flew, that was all that mattered. He continued to wait for the woman to answer him and silenced different looks cast at him with a furious glare towards the Angels that were watching him and whispering. They all stopped and continued to mind their own business.

The brown haired girl smiled kindly at the stranger, and was happy to have the company. Her eyes shined, an odd color for a moment. "Well, then I welcome your company. I am Lyla , a senior. I do think we are in the same class. Am I mistaken?" It was her way of asking his grade level. A roundabout way of asking, but she often spoke oddly. She was created from ancient magic. All familiars were connected in a way. They are made from the same magic, in fact...it is a magic from another dimension.

Dominic had taken a tray piled high with food, and sat down at a table alone from force of habit. He began to eat, quickly and messily, slavering and licking his chops like an animal while he did so, but soon enough, he heard what appeared to be two of his senior classmates talking. He hoped they would accept him, despite his bestial appearance. He walked over to their table, with his easy, loping gait.

The boy said something about being alone. "Not always bad to be alone, though. I've discovered that slowly, but it's been a good lesson." During his wanderings, Dominic would frequently not speak to anyone else for weeks at a time, and his voice was left permanently hoarse from that. Combined with the bestial snarl that his voice normally had around its edges from being a werewolf and his thick Northern English accent, his voice often made people uneasy.

"I overheard your voice. Acheron, is it? Ah, I was told that somebody named Acheron would be my roommate when I came in. My name is Dominic. Pleasure." He offered one big paw for the angel to shake, and attempted to make a smile crack across his broad, flat face, though such smiles usually came out as a predatory sneer. He hoped Acheron wouldn't cut himself up on his three-inch claws - he kept them filed blunt now to prevent it, but you could never be too sure.

She smiled, at them both. She glanced at the second male who sat at the table. His tone of voice interested her, which was ...nifty. "Welcome Dominic. I am Lyla. I am a familiar, and a senior as well." She was happy to accept the second male to the table. Hell, she was happy to have company for once, let alone the fact that they were both in her grade. Most of the freshmen only approached her once, then decided that it was not worth it. She was a strong familiar, due to age. She, as a familiar, would not age past what she was now, but she would always wander until the day she died.

The young woman looked at the two men and wondered who would be her dorm mate this year. She never really knew. Sometimes she moved dorms, after the first meeting. Its not that she is a mean person, its that she is just...special. Some people just had a hard time wrapping their minds around people like her, who just...exist. They all seem to want to know why and how and all of that. Its rather annoying, really.

She glanced at the two then, her magic wandered about a little, and she could tell there were no witches or warlocks in the room yet, at least...none worthy of any notice. There were always a novice or two, but with her strength level at what it is, she's not going to bond with a novice. And honestly, she has no idea if her witch or warlock will be what mortals call a 'good' or 'bad' witch. It was not up to her, at all. It was up to fate.

Now, there was a general misconception around the bonding. Most assume its romantic, that is not actually the case, it can be, but usually its more like 'good friends' or a family type relationship. The bonding is based on power. Her power would call to another, and the two powers would merge, or something similar to that. Other then that, Lyla is free to make her own choices.

"Familiar, is it? Never met a familiar before. Never met much of anyone before, in fact." While many werewolves did live in a fixed location, like the Drakes' rambling, gothic ancestral mansion high on the Yorkshire moors, they were fundamentally free creatures at heart, bound to nobody. In fact, being bound to the demonic curse of Xauriel was one of the things that grated on the family the most. Dominic did not like the idea of being bound to one person for ever more - to him, it seemed little better than slavery. Of course, he did not tell Lyla that.

"S'pose as a familiar, you know what life's bringing you. You know what you'll be getting, like I do. I've got two hundred more years of being a big hairy thing on the cards. Lucky me." He was a burly man, and his denim jacket and jeans were strained at the seams. Saliva dripped from his yellowed fangs, soaking the light coating of mangy brown fur on his skin. He looked down at the remains of his meal, which he had devoured as if he had not eaten in days. "And that's how I ended up here. Can't fit into human society, you see, not with how I look now. What can I tell you? Elder demons can really screw up your life."

Dominic was quite surprised. For once, nobody was looking at him strangely. Yes, he may have been a rather unusual specimen of werewolf - most were indistinguishable from humans in their normal forms - but he supposed that the student population here were used to all manner of oddities coming through their doors. "Yeah, came here cause it's somewhere I can belong. If I can't get the curse broken - for me and my family - I might just stay on to teach. What's your story? Invited here or came through your own choice?"

Ash looked to the Werewolf and smiled and shook his hand, careful to avoid the claws. "Nice to meet you Dominic. Yes, My name is Acheron. But just call me Ash." He smiled to the wolf and allowed him to sit down. He then laughed good heartedly to the man. "Two hundred years being a Hairy, buff, dude? Man! At least you aren't pampered as an angel." He spat on the floor and folded his arms.

He looked to Dominic and then sighed. "I was forced here. But I can't say that I hate it. This place allows me to strengthen my powers and get a better understanding of what I need to do." He kept the part of him being destined to sacrifice himself for the world. He sighed and then yawned again smiling to the Familiar. He noticed a small magical rift and chuckled softly, giving her an understanding look. "I don't think there are any Warlocks or Witches you can bond with in here. I don't think there are any that powerful yet." He smiled and then flicked the hair out of his eyes and they flashed silver and gold slightly before returning to blue. He blinked and then looked to Dom. "So Dom. Do you have any idea how to break this curse?" He said softly.

She was thrilled by the fact that someone was speaking to her. It was far too rare a thing, to be acknowledged, and not as a weirdo. Or worse. Some have a cruel name for the familiars. The walking dead. They pretty much said her kind were worthless, and would die, so not worth investing friendship or time into. "I was traveling nearby when I stumbled upon the school. I have no permanent address. As a familiar, I spent each day wandering. This school was a break from all of that. A blessing. I might be staying to teach as well, I am...It is a difficult thing. I am drawn to be and do one thing, but I want another." She paused. "And I can instantly feel when a witch or warlock is nearby, so I know there are none in this room, and none of the power I would be attracted to. They have to be ...well, not novices."

She wanted to find that one witch or warlock and finally belong. But at the same time, she wanted to be free, but she knew that was not written in the stars for her. She could not lie to herself. It would only bring her more pain. She glanced back down at her food, which shed only moved around really. Familiars could eat, but not eating did not harm them greatly. Especially, the older a familiar got.

She wondered what it was like to have a family, someone to care about you. She had no parents, or family. Well, all familiars are technically family, but they do not act like it. After all, a good or evil familiar is determined by the witch or warlock they are bound to. "This school is truly an amazing thing."

xUlysses Eriksonx
The Hunter
╚═══════════════╝

Ulysses arrived on the premises a little late, but at the gate he already knew this was going to be difficult. In his hand was a schedule and a good-bye letter from his mom, his father wanted nothing to do with him at this point. He understood his father's distaste of Ulysses actions, but still it wouldn't hurt the old man to write his son a letter. Actually the last thing they said to one another before Ulysses left was a slur of curses, yelling until it nearly broke out into a fight. While his father taught him the things he knew, it didn't mean he was officially a hunter, he was never awakened. Still Ulysses didn't want to hurt him, or anyone for that matter, that was why he was coming to Rosewater, to control himself so that he could be around the beings that hid in plain sight.

Ulysses yawned, the long flight to Ireland gave him jet-lag, and he couldn't even remember what time it was. The staff member showed him around the school building, he didn't really listen to what she had to say, he was good at finding his way around, so it wasn't much of a bother. From the outside she looked human, but he could tell she wasn't, no one here was human. A small bead of sweat came down the side of his face as she showed him to their final destination, the Cafeteria. “It's lunch time right now, so this is our last stop. I hope you have a wonderful time here at Rosewater academy!” She told him in a happy voice, walking off. He watched her for a long time, as a predator would hunt an animal. He felt his sides for a bit, sub-consciously, when he figured out that he was searching himself for a weapon Ulysses wiped his hands on his slacks. Slowly and cautiously he walked into the cafeteria, for a second he was like a deer caught in head lights.

Doing some light breathing exercises he wasn't sure what he was supposed to do. Folding the papers in his hand he stuffed them into his back pocket and moved into the line at the cafeteria. This was where he felt the most stress. He was surrounded, unable to move and talking was going on around him, making his head swirl. Just barely was he able to hold on as someone brushed passed him, cutting him in line. Luckily though he was able to keep the supernatural instinct in check. The line moved slowly and this reminded him of home, of Jessica, of his old life before he awakened. He missed the crowded cafeteria, filled with mostly humans, which made him feel safe and secure, but he couldn't let what he did to Jessica happen again. It haunted his dreams still, and he was just barely able to shake the thought out of his head as the lunch lady asked “What'll have?” Ulysses pointed at what looked like meatloaf before moving farther down the line.

He grabbed a fruit cup, a mini salad, and a bottle of water. This was similar to the meals that he had at his old school except this stuff actually looked edible which made him smile. Giving the woman at the cash register his student lunch card she tapped in his student number and he was able to move on in the wonderful world of choosing a lunch table. This reminded him of the several prison documentaries that he watched on the Discovery and History channel, this would decide who his friend's would be, if he would have any, and whether or not he would get in a fight on his first day. He wanted to be safe so he moved to a rather unoccupied table so that he could eat in peace. He was acting so odd on his first day and these people probably thought he was a freak, or weird, even though to him they were the weird ones. Still this was still a high school and he had to worry about people messing with him.

His main worry were Vampires, they could smell the blood, he was still human for the most part, that pumped throughout his veins. He didn't necessarily want to be detected on his first day, he was supposed to keep his origins a secret, otherwise things could get hairy. Down the table from him was an Raven-winged Angel, shirt off, unembarrassed, he was talking to girl, in a blue dress and as far as he could tell a Werewolf. If he focused he could listen in on their conversation but he didn't really want to look like a weirdo on his first day. Still he figured it would be good to go talk to someone before he looked like some sort of loner, he made friends before, he could do it again. He finished eating quickly wanting to get the food down his throat in a hurry. When he was finished he stood up and dumped the trash into one of the bins and gave his now empty plastic tray to one of the cleaning ladies near the front.

Taking a deep breath Ulysses sat down a couple of chairs away from the Angel, the Girl, and the Werewolf. He thought about what to say, and almost nothing came up, he was nervous and it was almost visible at this point. He was afraid to speak, because if he did he feared that it would waver and reveal how nervous he was. Maybe he could lie and chalk it up to first day of school nervousness. Finally getting the courage to say something he smiled over at the group, moving a chair closer as he made an obvious approach to do an introduction. “Uh, Hi there, I'm Ulysses, Ulysses Erikson. I'm new, came from the States.” Ulysses said rather awkwardly to the group of three, almost hitting himself in the face he had to quickly come up with an excuse, “Sorry I'm new here and I'm just really nervous, I wasn't expecting this place to be so, well, big.” He explained with a nervous laugh. Ulysses kept his tattoo hidden for the most part, and either kept his right hand, where it was located, in his pocket or in his lap, he didn't really like gloves in particular so he didn't bother to wear them on a normal basis. He hid this because he wanted to make friends, and if that mean hiding who, and what, he was then that was fine. Luckily the name Erikson was a common enough last name, thank goodness his ancestors got some sense in them before they left whatever country in Scandinavia they came from. This need to get and find friends was probably just him being the new kid, particularly around creatures that tried to blend in with humans, now he had to blend in with them. It was weird being the new kid.

Dom shook his head resignedly. "Sorry, Ash, not a clue. If I had one, I'd've broken the curse by now. Xauriel, the one who cursed us, was an exceptionally powerful elder demon. It'd take a warlock of even greater power to break it, and there hasn't been one that powerful in a long time. And dealing with an elder demon of that level of power... shouldn't have to tell you why that's not a good idea." Truth told, Dom didn't think he'd ever break the curse, truly. His wolfish state was something he would have to accept. Bit of a crap lot, being unable to fit in with humans, but there it was. "We all got something different here. Me with my dashing good looks. Lyla and her need for power. Ash and his black wings - nice color, by the way. Interesting senior year, this one."

Dom was interrupted by the arrival of the new kid, who seemed rather nervous to be there. "No problem. Sit yourself down here. Trust me, I'm aware of the feeling of being the new kid. I was one myself, once. Arrived a year ago, and sometimes, it still feels that big." Dominic made the low growl, deep in his throat, that served him for laughter. "Name's Dom, and as you can probably tell by the fuzz, I'm a werewolf. This here's Lyla, the familiar, and Acheron, who's an angel. Call him Ash. So what's your story? You look human, but obviously, you're not." The new boy did look mostly human, but there was something off about him, something Dom couldn't place. Despite his affable demeanor, something about this boy didn't sit well with him. He'd have to watch himself around him.

She looked at the boys, then made a choice. Everyone seemed like they needed some fun. She smiled, and her eyes held a touch of mystery but also mischief. "I do not know where all of you hail from, but I do think the term 'party' is universal. If you would like, I think we could make this day turn our right." She looked at Ulysses, and she saw nothing wrong with them. She was made of magic, and he felt...odd to her. He called to her, almost as if he was a warlock, though she could taste that he was not. Perhaps, he was cursed or carried a touch of magic? It was very possibly. Very.

She looked around, and decided what she would do. She was magic, she could make a part no one would ever forget. Of course, she knew that she would have to be careful about it. The staff were not all here yet, so now would be the best time to do anything. Especially a party, which was frowned upon, for many reasons. Looking around, she could feel the familiars nearby, and she felt her own power rise, and wondered if they were catching on to her idea.

Standing up, and took her tray to the trash. She emptied the tray then set the tray above the trash can. She walked back to the table and sat down. "We could have one tonight. After all, the rising of the moon is always something to celebrate around here. We could have it in the catacombs. The security is not here yet, so its not like there is anyone to catch up. Well, I know one teacher is here, but she's a ghost. She cant do much." Ghosts. They are strong,a nd yet weak, all at the same time. Poor things.

She thought more about the idea, and was starting to love it more and more. I just hope I don't have to turn someone into a rock again. Im a familiar, and Im tried to having to remind freshmen that I can preform magic. Seriously? Why do they think familiars bond so well with witches and warlocks? We are power enhancers. She hated freshmen, they often got on her nerves. In fact, there was one staring at her right now, that she was trying to ignore.

"Oh, Im sorry. Its just that I rarely have the chance to talk to anyone. I might seem a bit...oh, what is the word...hyper. "

Ulysses nodded in response. It was good to see that he wasn't the only person here who felt the nervousness of being the new kid, let alone the hint of loneliness that came along with it. To be honest he felt a hint of happiness as he learned the name of the werewolf who seemed to be stuck in a mid-transformation, a wolf-man of sorts. No Werewolf, and he met a good portion of a pack once, would ever choose that form for themselves. He didn't have the same sense as those around him did, he could only assume such things, he had no ability to trace lineage or even magical power, just that he was able to pick up on those not human. Maybe it was the thinness of the magic in his blood, perhaps he hadn't killed enough for this damned gift, or what he thought of as a curse, for his powers to fully develop. Something in him was bothered by his conscious effort of controlling himself, something that took 3 years and forced him to come to this school to control. He didn't know if he could handle this, but he had to try.

“I'm a Dhampir, half-vampire half-human. My mom fell in love with a vampire. She sent me here after I accidentally bit my cousin in the neck.” Ulysses informed the werewolf, though it was a bold face lie, the Dhampir were a rare breed so not many people would encounter one, so they hopefully wouldn't be able to tell. Ulysses hated lying to Dom, because the guy seemed so nice, but the headmaster informed him that he would have to keep his identity on the down low, there were creatures out there that hated his ancestry and would attempt to take out their anger on him, instead of taking it up in the after-life. It was shameful practice, lying like that, but he reminded himself, constantly, that it had to be done. Even with all of these bottled up and confused emotions and thoughts bubbled underneath he still managed a smile at everyone, though he didn't talk much. His ears perked up when he heard the term 'party', she was thinking of pulling that kind of stunt here? He smiled. Ulysses enjoyed going to high school parties, he would always go to his friend Jordan's house, his parents were relatively wealthy and were gone for the most part so there was plenty of booze and partying to go around. Lyla, or so he heard from Dom, had a sense of mystery around her, something that intrigued him.

“A party sounds like a good time. I've got my I-pod in my dorm, I'm sure someone's got a stereo we could hook it up to. Actually there's a Band room, I can grab a few speakers and the sound board from there. Could anyone get drinks and snacks collected? It seems like a hard sell here.” Ulysses was extremely happy to behave a little bit like a normal teenager for once. He flashed a quick smile at Lyla before looking around, people were still coming in, including staff. Planes must have gotten delayed or something, but he felt sure, deep in the pits of his stomach, that this would work out. At least hopefully it would, Ulysses always loved a good party. Though he was, only slightly, disappointed by the idea of it being down in the catacombs, he was an outdoors kind of guy, inside he never felt as free, as unconstrained as he was outside. Plus it could always help when he needed to quickly escape from something, but he didn't want to sound like a sour-puss, so he didn't raise up any other questions. Lyla seemed to get back a hold of herself, she was self-proclaimed to be a tad hyper, though she was a little polite about it. Still it made him chuckle a bit.

Ulysses checked the watch on his left arm, he had to set it to whatever the time was in Ireland, because it was reading something crazy. Ulysses looked at the Angel with the black wings, what did Dom call him? Acheron? Crazy sounding name, something he only read out of books never heard in real life. The angel had a sort of confidence that Ulysses could only envy, wishing that he had that sort of bravery as to walk around without a shirt, without worrying about his arm. His long-sleeved color shirt didn't help that he felt so hot, he was from Maine so the cold never bothered him, but the heat did, and he burned up wearing this long sleeved shirt. Still it covered up the crazy mark that gave him his power, which was the only reason he with stood such heat. He allowed his eyes to scan the room, to turn around, to move, he made it look like he was just checking out the other people, but in reality he was paranoid of his surroundings, he just couldn't feel safe in this place.

She nodded, but then frowned. "I pod?" She asked. She was not good with technology, at all. But she was willing to learn about it. "The band room will have all of the technology that can function here. We would have the party outdoors, but the barrier around the school makes it difficult. If someone accidentally tries to leave through it, things go bad very quickly. " The barrier would sound an alarm, which made a horrible shrieking noise. It was rare for it to go off, but it did happen during her first year. It had been horrid, and had scared her. She had spent three days in her dorm, in a state of shock. Although it was indeed magic, it was not the type of magic she dealt with or in.

Looking at the angel and the wolf, then back at the self proclaimed half vampire, she smiled. They were all very nice, and it was refreshing. Most people seemed to avoid familiar, which was fairly annoying at times. And it was super annoying, because she was a cheerleader for goodness sakes! She was supposed to be very popular. Or at least, that is what a girl from the previous year told her, when she joined the team.

She was a good cheerleader. She could not be harmed if she fell, and she was light and flexible. Oh, and it did not hurt that she was practically immortal until she was bonded. Could she bond to a non warlock or witch? Technically, yes. It was a deep dark secret of the familiar, but it was possible, the only problem is that the person has to be powerful. The individual must not only be powerful but must bond emotionally with the familiar as well. It is much more difficult to bond to a familiar if you are not a witch or warlock.

Of course, there are other ways. A few hundred years ago a dark fey found a amulet which allowed him to control familiars and force them to bond to him. Poor things...they all died when he was executed. Fourteen familiars perished when he did, and the familiar community was not pleased with any of it.

I hope that I never suffer a fate such as that. I could not imagine a worse way to die. And it was true. Dying with your bonded one is painful for the most part, and because the familiars were forcefully bonded to the fey, they were in a lot of pain when they died.

I have a hope,
I have a dream.
I want to belong,
I want to be seen.
I can fly,
but Ive never found somewhere worthy to land.

†Zero ◐Null◑Sifir†

Zero had been staying in Ireland over the course of a week. His mother insisted he did to get a taste of the local culture, not that he cared too much for it. Being from America, it wasn't that he didn't have a sense of cultural appreciation, but it was more of he was anxious of his new school. He spent most of the week cooped in a hotel room; mostly to avoid the humans. He had gone out a few times to sight see, but he had seen everything he wanted within the first two days. When it came time for him to go to the academy, he found himself taking all the time in the world. He was mostly worried about first day woes; new people, new environment, and an entirely new set of rules.

He received the grand tour with a group of peers from a teacher. He listened as much as he could while staring at the immensity of the place; it was grand, just as his mother had said. She had explained the barrier and how it kept humans out. He had felt a tingle as he had entered the grounds earlier, maybe that had been it. When it was announced it was time for lunch, Zero found his mood of not caring go to oh so happy. He hadn't eaten today, and he was looking forward to the menu. When he found himself in line, he wasn't exactly impressed or distressed. It was more of a lukewarm feel to the food being served.

None the less, Zero stacked a ton of fruit on his plate with a piece of meatloaf, and a brownie from the dessert bar. He made his way towards a table that was near an already populated one. From what he could tell, one was a familiar, another was a werewolf, an angel, and something else that smelled almost too human... He could tell it was human, but there something off about it. All Zero knew was that he wasn't expecting a human with supernatural abilities to be here, well he expected them, but not to run into one so soon. He sat down and kept to himself. He mostly didn't want to draw attention, but also he was slightly shocked. He was mostly scared of the possibility of losing control again. He didn't want it to happen... He remembered his mother and father's word of advice though... If he ever started to feel like he was losing control, just burn himself with the fire. He had done it a few times. It still hurt, but luckily there were no serious burns. They usually healed up within a few days due to his vampire side. Of course, he'd need blood or a synthetic form of it in order to fully heal like that.
