It was not without some trepidation that Warslik left his dorm in the pursuit of sustenance. Obviously food was not brought on ones room here - much to his chagrin. He would have killed to been able to repast in the exclusion of others - as it was he was loathe to even touch the food here with this new knowledge. How was he to know if it was safe? It could easily been tampered with, its not like he could have the staff try it before he touched it to see if there were any ill effects.
Regardless he may try that anyway - you could never be too sure. It would be terrible if he'd made it this far only to be felled by the long arm of the Loyalist bent of his family. Though he doubted they even knew where he was. But then - he wouldn't be surprised if they managed to find out either.
With a shake of his head and a sigh, he started off down the hallway. His eyes darting along to ensure he didn't run into anyone or anything that might impede his mission. He was hungry - he desired repast - and he doubted there would be any good vintage or potables offered in a common feeding hall.
His heart wept.

Deroy had been wandering the halls merely looking at things. She wasn't accustomed to the school yet, and thought that long walks through its halls on its walls and ceilings would help. And it did, a little. The exertion only really helped to make healthy her appetite, which by now needed whetting. She wasn't particularly picky at the moment so any part of any plant would do.
She stuck herself fast to the wall, eyeing down a possible snack from above. Only after making up her mind did she make her steady approach, before finally gnawing on one of the wooden benches that were found in almost every other hall. Not minding the taste of veneer or wood stain, the tough fibres of the bench still retained had the flavour of oak, or pine, or whatever it was. Nothing stemmed her craving for plant fibre quite like, well, plant fibre. As tough as it was, its fibres did eventually give way, making a kind of moist wood splitting sound.

Following the signs was easy enough - thankfully the language hadn't really changed much and in truth the dictionaries at the Witherson Manse were rather modern. What stopped him dead in his tracks was not the fact that he was lost - he knew exactly where he was.
It was the thing on the wall munching on... a bench?
Ten foot or more long, huge, bulbous... mass of... human? No. It was definitely not human.
Or magic for that matter, as the only sense he had of magic so far lay way back in his room - where his cauldron lay, nestled securely beneath his bed for safe keeping. Though now he was much chagrin he hadn't taken it.
What manner of... THING... was this monster that stuck to the wall.
Was it even intelligent? Was such... vermin... for surely it could be nothing greater - exist in great numbers on the island?
If so - Warslik was of half a mind of ignoring his parents urging to stay at the school and attempt to return home post haste.
Coughing a bit into his hand - he figured he might as well try to communicate with it, lest he try to pass it by and it attack him. His athame would be next to useless against this... monstrous pile of flesh and all the lords of hell knew what bile and ooze.
"Hail, Great Worm Beast," Warslik said, raising a hand in greeting. "I mean these no harm gentle creature - only but to pass thee by on my way to repast, which I offer you a portion of, if thou should let me by."
Unless it ate people - though it was eating a bench, so it might not be a carnivore.

She looked up from her meal, oh hey it was another person. A bit dumbfounded, she waggled a claw at him seeing as he had raised his hand. But what was he going on about? She wasn't getting the jist of most of what he had said, apart from that it was directed at her, the Great Worm.
Maybe he was just saying hello, in a different language or something. In a school like this, there were bound to foreigners. Eyeing him for second, she played with a thought, it possible that he was having trouble fitting in. Oh, maybe he was lost and needed someone to show him around? Or, or maybe that's just an excuse for him to approach her so that they could be friends! He just wants to be friends! That must be it!
Deroy was looking very pleased with her own far-fetched conclusion. She clambered off the wall, momentarily forgetting the half gnarled bench and her hunger in all, and made a bee line towards the shady, red headed, foreign friend to be.
A hug, she thought, or a hand shake would be best to cement the bonds of friendship.

Was it... was it coming closer?
Oh by the seven dark pits... he'd gone and pissed it off! Obviously it was not stupid - at least not completely so - it had shown some ability to mimic, but a sure sign of human level intellect that was not. Plenty of animals showed the penchant to mimic human behavior - several less than intelligent daemons too.
It wasn't a Daemon that much he was sure, but what it was was large, monstrous and moving toward him.
Maybe it was a threat display - maybe if he held his ground and didn't bolt the other way it wouldn't charge. Keeping his hand raised he watched as the creature moved towards him from the wall.
Please don't eat me... please do not eat me... oh by the seven pits don't eat me...
His mind raced with all the possible ways to get the hell out of there if it did decide to try and eat him - his athame was stuck in his boot, and reachable if it tried to latch on. Watching it though, he was unsure the blade would even do enough to pierce its hide. Well... he'd find out soon enough if it even so much as looked to put that oddly human mouth anywhere near his flesh.
"Peace friend," He said softly, in his best horse whispering tone. "I mean thee no harm."

As she approached, the boy seemed to tense up. He had spoke again, this time around she understood more, his speech was just more uptight and formal than she was used to. It was littered with words she hadn't encountered before, but it was english, some weird english.
Stopping in front of him she reconsidered her choice of action, that maybe a lung flattening claw hug wouldn't be the best introduction.
"No worries buddy!" she said, beaming all the while taking and shaking one of his hands distinctive up and down manner. "Uh, 'I mean thee no harm' too! My name's D3-R0Y. You can call me Deroy."

... It... talked...
Warslik allowed the creature - known as D3-R0Y, or, Deroy - to shake his hand. Handshakes he knew - they weren't common in the manse but he knew what they meant. Deal brokering and honesty.
"It is a pleasure to make thine acquaintance Deroy, you may call me Warslik." The Daemonist was unsure how to proceed. Obviously this... creature was smarter than he'd initially given credit.
"Forgive me, for I am unused to life outside of mine home - and I have never encountered such a... being as yourself save that was most foul. Thou seem fair and friendly."
Translation: Sorry I thought you were a dumb animal - you aren't a daemon after all.

She let of the poor lost boys hand, thinking that the length of time needed more establishing a good hand shake had been accomplished. She continued to grin earnestly whilst listening intently as he talked. Yes, it wasn't her imagination this time, he most certainly had a different manner of speech from what she had thought was 'normal'.
"Warslik?" she repeated, getting the pronunciation as close to kin as she could, making sure she had heard him correctly.
"Hehe." she laughed not at his apology so much as it was out of modestly. 'Fair and friendly' had been taken to be a compliment. She appeared to be quite bashful.
Deroy maneuvered the great girth that was her body so that it fell in line behind her as she walked at Warslik's side.
"Oh stop it, you're flattering me." she waved a dismissively dainty claw his way.
"So what brings you here?" she asked having meant it to be a inquiry of why he would've left his home.

It possessed human intellect, that much Warslik was sure now. No, wait - it was no longer an it but Deroy. It had a name. Deroy then. Gender was a mystery, he assumed it had none - but he wasn't about to ask as that was - well rude. "Food," he said, honestly, misinterpreting her query for meaning at that moment. "I essayed forth from mine room in search of repast. It was much to mine trepidation to find that this Academy is lacking in its ability to cater to their student's need for servitude."Warslik nodded slowly then, clicking his tongue as if this were really a major issue. "But alas, I am in effect stranded here until such time as I prove mine worth to those who hold the keys to the world beyond.""What of thou? Why art thou here?" Warslik asked the worm-girl. Though he was repulsed by her physical appearance, he had learned a long time ago how to suppress and inhibit such reactions. Daemons and their ilk were rarely anything short of grotesque (there were some exceptions, but he was not of the ilk to summon Daemons for such base things as personal pleasure.)

Perhaps she hadn't phrased the question specifically enough. Though she was still very pleased by the answer she got, food and homework. That's what he said compelled to him to be in these halls. She could certainly agree to share his feeling of hunger. She seemed to always be hungry lately, or well, she never seemed to ever be full for very long.
"Me?" she asked blinking almost unknowingly. Was that was 'thou' meant? It seemed to fit, given the context.
"I'm hungry too." she plainly answered gesturing to the mangled bench in case the robed Warslik needed evidence to back up her claims.
"That, and the sewers were getting stuffy." she added considering if his question was as poorly specified as her own had been.

"I am curious, Deroy, as to what thou actually consumes for repast?" Warslik asked as he continued to move forward, keeping Deroy's bulk in mind as he moved. It would probably be best to make an ally of it, if only for its sheer size and potential crushing power. "I have never evidenced something that consumes wood so voraciously," he said, chuckling softly. "Most of thine ilk I have met have been concerned only with the consumption of fetid, rotten flesh. Nor did they have the intellect that thou possess."It wasn't a Daemon, but maybe it responded to flattery as they did? If so he could easily rope it into a contract and potentially bind her as a vassal of some sort. "These sewers sound like a foul plane, not fit for such a fine and fair one as thou," He said with a bow of his head. "Mine own manse was fraught with peril and intrigue. Mine parents thought it better that I be removed from such things and live my life divorced of the strife of the politics and power struggle of mine home." He gave the worm a small smile. "If only I hadst someone whom I could call an ally to watch mine back here, for I am sure the long arm of the less savory members of mine family do still seek to cause me harm..." He said with a sigh, putting on a show of being depressed. Take the bait, he thought with a sense of glee. Become mine vassal so that I might further mine own ends.

"I'm strictly on a pure Vegan diet." she replied without much hesitation. Hey, perhaps she was starting to get used to his kind of lingo. "It's what keeps me lean and mean." she professed proudly.
Deroy visibly shuddered at the thought of herself eating meat, and it wasn't just that, but it sounded like he was talking about something that frequently had the bloody stuff in its rancid state. Blegh. She made face that grimaced in disgust. Meat on it's own was one thing, but that? She suppressed another welling shudder. These 'Ilks' that Warsliks went on about, must be pretty vile creatures.
The worm girl appeared to blush at the boys blatant flattery. She made a weak attempt to hide her embarrassment using her claws, and could only pipe up as if to correct him. "No, no, these sewers are underground." she said, misunderstanding his use of the word plane. The heavy set piping that had proven to be such a haven for her in earlier years were certainly not things that frequented the sky. Though had been a lonely kind of sanctuary. The red heads home was not without it's own problems, wrought with divorce, strife and politics and what not. It didn't sound very fun at all!
The boy went on to speak as if he were seeking a certain kind of companionship and that his family apparently had very long arms that were out to get him.
"Aw, it'll be okay." she put a steady comforting claw on his shoulder as they walked. "After all you're here now. I'm sure you'll make lots of friends! And then maybe you'll even be able to find the one that you're looking for." if she had eyebrows she'd be waggling them, instead the dull protrusions others referred to as antennae would simply have to make do.
"Actually you know what? This here. This. Means that we're friends now!" she proclaimed while heartedly patting him on the back. "Call on me when you need to." she beamed at him, adding the final word in a truly heartfelt manner "Friend."

Yes, the beast took his bait. Warslik was not too partial to being touched by it, but he grinned and bore it as best he could. After all - it would behoove him none to have put all this effort into recruiting a vassal only to have it think he disliked it. Nodding his head then he let out a faux sigh of relief. "It is good to know that I have thine aid, Deroy, thou art truly a noble being." He said, reaching out to pat the worm-girl on the side of her body where he could reach. He kept his pat gentle and light, as if he were afraid to harm the beast. "Thou too, shall have mine should you needst it," He said, his voice growing sad. "For I afear that there are those that would seek to harm thee just for thine form alone. Those that would seek to use thee for their own nefarious ends. Know that I shall always come to thine defense Deroy. Thou art mine cohort."He nodded sagely, crossing his arms and then stroking at his chin. "Therefore I propose a contract, between us - a treaty of sorts."He stopped moving then, turning his body so that it faced Deroy. "I hast a feeling that thou art new to the over-world Deroy, and this puts thee in a sorely disadvantageous position. Whilst I am not familiar with this part of the world - I am familiar with the minds of people. For true, whilst many seem to be trustworthy without - in truth they are vile and wicked within, seeking only to use you for their own gains!"He brought a hand to his heart, reaching up to pull back his cloak so that his face would be fully visible to Deroy, looking up at her with sad, pained eyes. "In mine 13 years I have seen death, pain and strife Deroy. I wouldst much hate to see such a thing happen to one so fine and fair as thou. Thou art truly noble and it wouldst pain me so much to see thee come to harm from others."Straightening then, he cleared his throat, allowing himself to take on a serious guise. "Therefore, I suggest that thou and I swear an oath of partnership. I will protect thee from those that would use thee, and thou shall lend me thine strength when I call upon it. Thou shall serve as my Vassal and aid - and I thous protector against those who would use thee poorly and do thee harm? What say you Deroy? Will thou swear fealty to me and serve as mine vassal so that I might impart my strength and protection to thee? I will honor thine oath, and join thee in a blood pact, on my honor and by the provisions of the compact upon mine very soul."

Deroy was very pleased to have made a new friend that day, so pleased in fact that some of things that the new friend was saying went right over her head. She'd only vaguely heard of him mentioning some kind of treaty before he stopped walking all together. Her head turned to face him ans he had turned to face her. She wasn't intent on listening so much as she blinked in slight puzzlement, why had they stopped? The cafeteria wasn't that much further away. But oh, the words he was saying sounded almost prophetic. He must've been saying something important, and she hadn't been paying much attention to it until just now.
And then he uncloaked himself and looked so sad. What was going on? Warslik was talking about death, pain and suffering now, all the while he making sure to flatter her and mention that she was undeserving of such ill fates.
Then he stood to look serious again, and Deroys eyes widened still very much confused and not at all knowing what to expect. What was he talking about, this 'oath of partnership' business and blood pacts, and what was a 'Vassal' anyways? That sounded intimate. He was describing a life of servitude and protecting one another, that sounded like quite a commitment. What's more there was talk about honour and souls being involved. No wait, that sounded like an honest to goodness relationship relationship. WHOA, was he asking her what she thinks he's asking her?
It goes without saying but Deroy was looking a bit shocked at this point. Things were clearly going a bit too fast for her, after all she had only just met the boy, and charming as he was she did not think she ready for that kind of 'partnership'. Things were getting too serious, too soon.
"Um... I'm flattered. Really, I am, and you seem like a nice guy, but I just don't think I'm ready for that kind of relationship." this had to be typical of boys these days, she figured, give them an inch and they take a yard. So how could she put this lightly?
"I was hoping we could just be friends, you know, for now, and maybe see where that goes. Hm? You understand right?" she smiled comfortingly and put a sympathetic claw on his shoulder once more, really hoping that he did.
