Mai stood in the kitchen, she didn't know why, she was dead and unable to eat anything. She phased through the wall. She gave a small ghostly smile as she looked at the school, the light was just right. She had just moved in so she was enchanted by its beauty.

𝕬nother great day to forget the responsibilities of a teacher was waiting for Vladdy. Today, he had decided to grab his favorite doll - Rosalinda - and take a look around the school. That place was really huge, and for a kid like him it was like a huge playground full of interesting things.
Today he made a trip to the dormitories. Most students were at classes during that time of the day, so it was a perfect moment to lurk around and "investigate" without anyone noticing hi-....
Vlad saw through his bright, green eyes that someone right next to him.
He had been deep into his thoughts while walking through a few walls as usual, and apparently he had entered a charming, brightly lighted room without noticing it. And indeed, there was also someone else standing in that room. A young, charming lady - who also seems to be a ghost, just like Vladdy.
And of course the little boy had not just forgotten to be careful, but he also had forgotten the fact that dolls can't go through walls like he could. As a result he had lost Rosalinda somewhere between this wall and the 20+ previous ones.
"Uh... Excuse me and my horrible manners!"
He said those words quickly and fled the apartment right away. However, a few minutes later he came back. This time he waited behind the door with his doll. He knocked the door three times and said:
".Hello? And... I'm still sorry about the earlier."
That is what he said when he waited behind the door for someone to let him in. He also tried to wipe off the dust from the doll's perfect, white porcelain skin.
Ghosts have no sense of privacy sometimes. And their actions can be very confusing, too. Especially if they happen to be children, whose actions don't really make any sense to the grown-ups in general.

Mai giggled at the little boy who seemed to shy away and flee. When he left she sighed and waited for her roommate to show up. But minutes later a soft knock resonated through the silent dorm. "Oh hello!" She said, rather perky for a dead girl. She focused momentarily and her hand became solid, then she opened the door. The boy looked so innocent, like death hadn't even effected him.
"It's no trouble, please come in." She said calmly.

𝕿he girl opened the door which was in front of Vlad.
He looked straight into her eyes when the door opened. Those eyes seemed to be very lively and serendipitous in his opinion. Ironically, the boy's own eyes were rather blank. In fact his whole face was usually just as blank and emotionless as his eyes, which made him look rather eerie and melancholic sometimes. However, that was not how he felt deep inside all the time. Not at all. He just has looked like this as long as he can remember - emotionless from the outside. Vlad was able to feel happiness, he could feel curiosity, and he can be amazed too. And indeed, it was possible for him to feel sadness, too. Many humans can't just usually tell that from the outside.
This made Vlad suddenly remember the other ghost student that he had met at the history class. That kid seemed to be so sad and lonely all the time. Actually, most of the spirits that he encounters seemed to be like that kid. Most were just simply sad. But then some, rare individuals were even angry and aggressive. And almost none of spirits seemed to be happy. Vlad was the expert of spirits, after all, so he has seen lots of examples which support this theory.
But indeed, this girl appeared to be very different from most of those previously mentioned dead spirits.
How delightful!
"Thank you, miss."
The blonde boy entered the dormitory. Many items there looked quite new, clean and shiny, which must mean that the students moved in not too long ago.
"Ah... You must one of the new students, am I right?"
Vlad tilted his head a bit and wrapped his transparent, small arms around his doll.

Mai smiled. "Yeah i just moved here today, i heard about this place and decided to enroll. Not that i had better things to do..being dead and all." She giggled.
She played with her hair a bit as she inspected the boy, this time she really looked at him. He seemed so, empty. Like there was nothing inside him.

ℌe listened to the girl. She said that she had nothing better to do, since she was dead and all.
"How odd."
In Vlad's opinion, there was lots of things to do, even if you are dead. You can sit on the graveyard and talk to other spirits, or maybe spend weeks in a library reading books without ever getting tired. Or then you could run around scaring mortals, like some spirits loved to do. Vlad had personally taken the path of studying. His goal was to grow and learn, like a normal kid would do... If they were alive.
Vlad's sad fate was to stay like this, though. He would never grow up or live a normal life. But then again... What does 'normal life' mean for a ghost, exactly? Maybe everyone had their own way of... 'Normal afterlife'.
"Nothing better to do, huh... I know the feeling. We also got bored, so we took a walk and that's how we ended up here."
By "we" the boy of course meant himself and the doll that he was hugging even now. The doll had a curly, raven black hair, dreamy green eyes, and perfect, pale skin. The doll was also dressed in old-fashioned clothes.
"Ah, yeah! I'm actually a teacher in this Academy. My name is Anton Vladimír Friedrich von und zu Kleist, but the students usually call me Mr. von Kleist."
Because Vlad was hungry for knowledge, he had studied a lot during all these years. Despite his small figure and innocent looks, he was surprisingly wise and mature being because of all that work. Also, all this knowledge had given him the chance to even work at this school as a teacher. It is a bit ironic when a kid like Vlad teaches beings who are much older and scarier than he is... But this odd school of magic, which carried lots of secrets and resource material for his study, was really a perfect place for him. So, taking the job had been actually a good deal. And he really didn't mind teaching, but sometimes it really got a bit boring. It was because the grown-ups just can't see the world like he sees.
After all, he still did have a heart of a child.

"Oh wow a teacher! Pardon me, you looked so young." She said waving her hands frantically for a moment. When Vlad mentioned his name, she looked down, her bubbly demeanor dissolved for a moment.
"Nice to meet you Vlad, my name is Mai. Or that's the name i gave myself at least. I remember nothing about my mortal life." She sighed.

𝓚ids these days. They were so casual when they talked to authority and their elders. Vlad does not blame them for doing that, since that's how things work nowadays. But he still could remember how things were back in his days.
"I know that my looks are misleading, so don't worry about it," he said calmly.
Well, in fact he could not remember his living days either. Just like this girl.
But he did remember the first days of being dead. It was quite of an shock for a child to notice that he was all alone, and no one could see or hear him any more.
"Ah... I'm so sorry about that. I do have the very same problem, so I know the feeling, miss."
First a child usually seeks for help when they are in trouble. When Vlad didn't find anyone, he had to just simply adapt to the situation. He was alone, and clueless about pretty much everything.
"But... Actually, I'm not just a teacher. I'm also the leader of the Necro branch, who is right now making some research on... This kind of subject. So maybe I could help you?"
But we was not completely clueless or alone any longer. He still had a long way to go, but he was already holding many pieces of the puzzle in his hands. Quite a few were still missing, but he was getting closer to solve this puzzle.
Puzzles, games and toys. Those were Vlad's favorite things. He loved them very, very much. He even seemed to carry them with him where ever he goes.
"But first, could we sit down? Rosalinda is feeling a bit tired. See?"
Vlad raised his doll for Mai to see.

"Ah yes, you must have died rather young a long time ago." She said.
"I guess that happens to all ghosts." She said simply.
"Of course sit down." She said fading and appearing on the couch. She patted the spot next to her and smiled. "How exactly could you help? I've tried for months to remember." She said.

𝖁lad bowed, followed and sat down. He placed the doll next to him carefully. Vlad was the head of Necro, so he - out of all the people - was probably very capable of helping those who have problems with... Spirits. One's own spirit, or other spirits. It didn't matter really, since Vlad was a real whiz kid. He knew a lot about life, death and mortality.
"This... Post-death amnesia doesn't seem to happen to everyone, actually. But it's still very common."
After a short while, Vlad figured that they should start with his special ability.
"Hm... I have an idea. Do you see this chain here?" the boy said and pointed at the chain that was hanging around his neck, like an accessory.
"It carries my cause of death. I can also see very similar.... Invisible bonds or chains hanging on every spirit. Well, the other spirits really can't see them, but I can. "
Vlad was very interested in this ability of his. Other spirits didn't seem to feel any change if he took the bonds away from them. They really didn't seem to carry any purpose at all after you die. But they were indeed needed for Vlad's research.
"The bond used to connect the body and the soul. Now, as you can see, it's broken, but it still carries the memories of the moment of one's death. My skills also allow me to use these to... Re-experience the death by using these bonds and a little bit of magic."
By studying deaths, he was able to study necromancing. The experiences also offered precious historical information, even though it was just a short cut from someone's life. He had actually developed the habit of collecting these causes of death, because it took a while for him to analyze all the mechanisms so it was easier for him just to take the chains with him. However, it didn't take long to perform the skill itself. Vlad can prepare it in no time, it really didn't take much effort.
"Do you understand, miss?"
The bad side of this ability was the fact that it was very traumatic to feel all the agony, all the negative feelings... And the pain.

Mai thought for a moment, she was unsure of what she would experience. But she nodded. "If it means i'll find out what happened to me, then go ahead." She said, she seemed nervous.

𝕽osalinda's hair was still messy. The boy felt bad for leaving her behind like that, so he tried to fix it.
"Ah. yes... But it won't tell your whole story. You will only learn how did you die and what did you feel on the moment you died."
Vladdy would have been glad if he could find out about his life this way. But he was very afraid to even try this skill on himself. Thus, he had never tried it on himself. Not yet.
He was quite curious about it, he really was. But he was also rather afraid of it.
But now it wasn't about him. He was here to help this girl. So the real question was if she's ready.
"So... Do you want to try it out?"
Vladdy did not know that his own death won't reveal much clues about his life at all. He had been a target of seemingly random violence, and then he was simply left to bleed to death. There won't be any memories of his family or personal life found from that experience.
But since he didn't know this yet, he was curious to try the skill on himself... One day.
But it just might mess up his mental state. He knew that, and that's why he hadn't tried it yet. It's normal for anyone to be traumatized by such an experience. And some might get really messed up. Indeed, one might become even more messed up than Rosalinda's hair after such an experience.

𝕿hat girl was a surprisingly brave one, it seems.
Vlad lifted his doll and placed it on his lap. He started to think that this girl was quite interesting in her own way.
"Ah... Before we start, I have to ask this. Miss, do you mind if I take your... "Chain" afterwards?"
Vlad had been thinking this for a while. According to his idea, he could use the causes of death in different techniques than just this one.. He just doesn't know how, yet. But he has the feeling that it is possible.
He just doesn't have enough material yet for the new break-through.
"I have the hobby of collecting them. And... I also need them for my study."
The boy looked at the doll which was sitting in his lap. He seemed to be so innocent. Thoughtful, but innocent.
That blonde girl, who first had looked very carefree and happy, seemed to have more guts than you'd think. She really seemed like a normal teenager, if you ignore the fact that she's dead, but now she had told that she's ready to face her own death once again.
Vlad wondered how could did she die. Such a lovely, cheery lady. Maybe it was a disease, or maybe an accident. Those are the main options that Vlad considered to be possible, since he couldn't think of a good reason for anyone to kill such a good person.
But then again, Vlad had also seen many good people to die because of all the wrong reasons. It wasn't their fault - they had been just too good for this world.
"So, let's start?"
