((Couldn't find anything anywhere about Dot's hobbies, so I just arbitrarily decided to place the location in the used bookshop where Matt works.)) Another winter had come again, bringing with it a holiday season that had come and gone. Still the ice, the slush, the cold lingered, and Matthäus Bauer found himself outside of his used book shop clearing snow from the sidewalk. There wasn't much left, but he was determined to scrape the last dirty, sloshy remnants of ice from the pavement. Salt on the ice helped melt it and prevent slippage--the last thing he wanted was for anyone to get hurt near his shop. But as pretty as winter could be--and in the countryside, Matt had always considered winter to be pretty--Matt had never enjoyed the cold weather that came with that time of year. He was bundled up in a heavy winter coat and a striped, knitted hat that matched the long scarf wrapped around his neck. His wings shivered under the coat, pulling tighter against his body.
With the outside task at last completed, Matt turned to go inside.

Winter was a strange time for Dot, for while she did see the beauty in the sparkling crystals of snowfall, ultimately this time of the year meant the death or hibernation of the plants she so often used to occupy her time. Most of the herbs she gathered for healing, the spices she used to stock the kitchen, and the flowers she tended to in order to keep the place looking lovely, were all hidden under snowdrifts or frozen in ice. It was during these winter months that Dot resorted to other hobbies in order to keep herself entertained. As she flit across the surface of the snow, her bare feet nearly frozen from the snow, her long sweater barely holding the heat in, she wondered if there was some kind of crafting store around. Turning her head left and right, eyes focusing on the buildings both near and far, she managed to spot Matthaus right as he opened the door to go inside. Setting herself down on the path he had just made, she inspected the small shop and gave a tiny nod. Yes, this would do just fine, she always needed more information on the plants she tended.
Waiting a few moments, she turned the doorknob and peered inside after the other noodle. "Excuse me," she called, seeing him only a few feet away, "Do you know where I could find myself a book on herbs and herbal medicine? Or perhaps one on spices..."

Once inside, Matt stamped the snow off his feet and hung his coat up on a hook behind the counter. He kept the shop warm. Ice inevitably reminded him of the...unpleasantness several years ago. Much better to be warm, and safe, and dry inside and to admire the snow from there. Mornings were usually slow in his shop. They'd speed up later in the day, possibly from people selling him unwanted books they received as gifts, possibly to buy books for late gifts, or just from people passing by. Then again, he did sell some used textbooks. Students, perhaps?
The bell above the door rang softly as the door was opened far enough for another noodle to poke her head inside. Matt squeaked and turned around, startled. Oh! "Um, ve should have vun. Please, come inside." He made a welcoming gesture. Okay, he didn't expect someone so early, especially a pretty someone!

Dot remained in the doorway until he invited her to come inside, always one for formalities and respecting the delicate affairs of others. She could never be sure when it was appropriate to disrupt someone at work, and having only just watched him enter the shop, she was uncertain whether the shop was even open to customers. Delicately stepping into the bookstore, she turned around to close the door firmly behind her, shaking the snow out of her fur before brushing her feet on the mat so as not to drag the dampness around on his flooring. Her ears swiveling every which way, she looked around at the shelves with insatiable curiosity, her eyes finally coming to rest on his multi-patterned pelt. "I did not mean to startle, I simply did not wish to create a loud interruption when I made my way in here. It seems you have an accent." Her half-frozen wings began to thaw in the heated store, and immediately began to twitch and flutter as she spoke. "It is an uncommon feature in these parts, is it not? Are you from another land, perhaps?"
Stepping forward, she picked up her tail and flicked it so that water spattered onto the mat once again before she started to walk along the shelves, all crammed with books both new and old. Her eyes followed the bindings with wonder as she turned back to him and inclined her head ever so slightly. "I would be very grateful if you could lend me a book on such matters as those. Since I can not observe them firsthand in these winter months, I would much rather read about them. My name is Dot."
