“Damn it!” A cry of frustration echoed through the silent forest, eliciting a few startled chirps from various birds nearby. The Orderite crashed his way through the underbrust, swinging his limbs out in angry kicks and punches at anything that got in his way (that wasn’t alive, that is). He muttered under his breath, obviously irritated and upset, while he dabbed at a nasty cut on his brow. It was bleeding into his eye, and so he kept that eye shut as he stumbled through the forest. “Damn it all! Bloody dragons, with their claws and their tails and…urgh!” He kicked a rock with the toe of his shoe, immediately regretting it as the digit throbbed in pain. While he did wear boots, they were not steel-toed or very thick at all; he should avoid kicking things that were much denser than his foot. He let out an exasperated sigh and continued to trudge along, dabbing at his wound with his sleeve. Mind you, that wasn’t his only injury, but it was certainly the most bloody at the moment. He could already feel numerous bruises forming and many more scratches beginning to sting. He’d have to take a trip to the infirmary when he got home.
He was getting very, very, very tired of losing to these dragons. He understood that, yes, they were strong creatures and he was much smaller than them, but he’d already fought three and had lost to all of them! Surely by now he had some inclination of how to win!? He’d read many books about dragons, about their weak spots and how to beat them, but none of the tips seemed to be working. He was really beginning to doubt his fighting skills. He knew that he was fast enough, smart enough; but was he strong enough? He supposed that he was still rather young at the moment… But still! Isn’t the third time usually the charm?
“I’ll win next time,” he murmured, breaking through the tree line as he headed back home.
