History
Skelly might not have the same father as his siblings Mairenn and Caelan. There is some debate if Maireen and Caelan have the same father but with both his siblings with dark hair, eyes, and skin they at least pass as family. When born he actually caused a bit of rift between his parents, Mairenn claims otherwise, but he knows he caused them to argue. No matter what Mairenn says about his possible not father, she calls him by his name! It is so inappropriate.
... before Skelly makes this into more drama.
Skelly was the result of his mother being sick and tired of her husband's adultery and sleeping with a rider to get back at him. It failed, big time. For the first five years after Skelly was born it was alright, her husband was gone, a plus, and she spent it attempting to craft some lie to appease him. It blew up in her face and they ended airing every bit of dirty laundry of their nine year marriage out in the streets of Ruatha hold. Needless to say, Skelly feels as if it was all his fault.
Hoathor thought it was all his fault as well. The man was belittling and left as soon as he had a other trade route set. Rosa hmphed and set about getting rid of her brats, planning to run off with a other trade that would appreciated her more. Hence, Skelly ended up apprenticed early with the messengers along with his elder brother Caelan.
Being a candidate is a rather new thing, and he believes there must have been some sort of mistake. He could certainly see his elder siblings fighting thread but him? He is going to mess up terribly... at least his siblings are here. The Fort search dragon was nice though and fly is so thrilling, despite the possibility of going splat.
Caelan is the only child born of his parents, his sister was a fling his mother had before she married and his younger sibling while absolutely cute is from a fling with a rider. His family if you ask him, well his siblings at least are perfect. His father has likely two or three other wives somewhere along his trade routes. His mother is not a lost, and he likely better without their baggage.
He actually enjoyed his job as a messenger, it gave him an excuses to pose dramatically on top of runner beasts and to momentarily talk to well off people. He didn't like that his sister chose to dance in the streets with her flit and then collapse in the stables. Really, Mari? Find yourself a nice apprentice doing something. What is this? No, Skelly don't fight it. This is better for us all.

Caelan enjoys being a candidate, he hopes that he will find a position of great power eventually. If he was a weyrleader it would mean security at least for him and his family. Not to mention metallic's are so gorgeous.
Mari knows her father isn't the man her mother married. She now knows that her father at least expected, considering she came a month and a half early into the world. Really, she could care less, since she finds him to be an insufferable crack skull and her mother wasn't much better. Likely the only child they had was Caelan, and that could be debatable. Really, if he was around more often, perhaps things wouldn't have ended up how they are.
She is better off on her own, and well she is now a candidate, she has a flit, and both her siblings are with her. She couldn't be on a greater tract to greatness. If ever asked she wants a brown, cause golds don't actually save anyone. They lay eggs and are a bit slow on the take off. She wants to fight thread and while a green would allow her that, it rather expected for a woman to impress a green if they can't manage a gold. She is better than them all!
