Business District Guidelines & Info

The Business District is where Citizens and Amityville graduates can run various businesses: shops, restaurants, taverns, etc. All Citizens and Graduates automatically can set up one small business, with additional businesses being purchasable with RP points.

These businesses are effectively permanent RP threads with a shop front aspect to them. They can be run in different ways, depending on what you as the player want to do!

Purely RP style: These businesses are basically a setting owned and operated by a particular character (or group of characters!) that people can come in and RP in. No actual exchange of currency (like Gaia gold) is involved, and there are no OOC items/services provided. It's just all for IC flavor and interaction.

Minishop style: Ever been to the Gaia Mini-Shops forum? Like that, pretty much. These shops actually have something to buy that the player makes - i.e. a bakery might sell little pixel cakes. (Please note that due to Gaia's ToS, all items sold must be sellable for Gaia gold only, not for minipet silver or anything else. And of course you must make everything that you sell! No art theft. Period.)

Game style: You could set up a shop to 'run itself' without requiring intensive interaction from you, perhaps setting up dice rolls that everyone who enters and wishes to buy could use. Think of it like the booths at events like Fright Night and other school festivals, or like Amityville's open classes and the Hunters' training courses.

And more?! If you have another idea, go for it!

So what are the guidelines for businesses?
- They should make sense in the Halloween setting. Ask if you have questions about this!
- They should be law abiding, at least on the surface; while there is wiggle room to have 'fronts' for more shady dealings, there are IC limits to what would be tolerated out in the open. For example, a business that involves killing humans will get a character arrested, but selling scavenged body parts is 'recycling'!
- They should involve materials accessible to citizens of Halloween. For example, a business selling JOY cookies is not possible, but while a shop selling rainbow sparkles might be considered obscene and freaky by Halloween standards, some people might like it? and it would be okay as a usable concept.

Can I make... oh, say, a school?
If you want to make a preschool or elementary school, you can, with the caveat that no learned abilities would be available (that's for Amityville only) and that no school-sanction battling happens. Anything higher than that, schools can be mentioned, like say a Citizen saying they're attending Skellington High, but that's all. This is to avoid confusion with Amityville Academy students.

What about...?
If you have additional questions about very specific sorts of jobs or businesses, please ask HERE!

I want more than one business for my character!
That's fine - while all Citizens and Graduates begin with one 'starter' business, you can 'buy' more with RP points. The cost for an additional business is 25 RP points, with a two month cooldown after each purchase.

Do I have to run a business if I don't want to?
Nope, if you don't want to you don't have to! This is just for people who are interested in exploring careers, professions, etc. for their characters.

Okay, okay, where do I sign up?!
Right here!
