THE RIDER

Name: EiranUser Image
Age: 16
Gender: Male
Sexual Orientation:Heterosexual
Craft/Rank: Apprentice baker

History:
Eiran was born and raised a weyrbrat. While many of the other children in the creche had some sort of vague idea on who their parents might be, Eiran never had any inkling and nobody else seemed to be able to remember exactly where he came from. It wasn't something that ever really bothered the good-natured boy, but there were times in his childhood where he would fantasize about who they could have been.

Eiran has always been fairly high-spirited, and he developed a habit of sneaking into the kitchens and filching treats whenever he could get away with it. Since he is not the quietest or most subtle boy, he was often caught, and set to doing tedious chores to make up for the theft. The kitchen drudges and the cooks soon adopted Eiran as a sort of pet, and he started spending more and more time in the kitchens. He was initially given menial chores, but it didn't take long for him to prove himself, and he moved up from basic scrubbing to learning how to cook.

The boy had always had a penchant for sweets, and it soon became clear that his skills lay in baking. He showed a great deal of potential when it came to breads and pastries, and so his training was soon focused on the baking element.

Eiran is well content in the kitchens. The people who work there have become his family, from the head cook down to the lowliest drudge, he cares for them all. It's always warm, and he always gets enough to eat. As far as Eiran is concerned, a boy couldn't ask for much more out of life.

During the attack on Trine, Eiran and the other kitchen staff worked as hard as they could to continue to provide sustenance for the Resistance. The teen's primary duty was to run food packs to those who were trapped safely in the Infirmary. Eiran did a significant bit of sobering up during the attack, watching as people he had known all his life died while he, somehow, survived. But when it comes to feeding people, there is no rest or time to reflect on those who have been lost. The living need nourishment, so Eiran once again threw himself into his work as Trine slowly began to rebuild.

Description:
Eiran is a smallish boy with a little bit of baby-fat remaining on his frame, he appears a lot younger than he actually is. He tends to be soft to the touch, as he eats a lot and doesn't do a lot of concentrated exercise. However he's physically stronger than he looks - lifting heavy pans and scrubbing pots will do that to a person. The boy dresses humbly, but his features are fairly striking. His hair is a surprisingly soft and fluffy puff of blond curls and his eyes are a vividly bright shade of blue. The boy always seems to have a smile on his face and a dusting of flour on his clothes. The best thing about Eiran is the way he smells, though. The scent of sweet pastry seems to follow him around like a cloud of deliciousness.

Personality:
If there is one thing about this young man that is initially striking, it's that he seems so happy. Not the happiness of the moment, Eiran is deeply satisfied and content with his life. He loves the kitchens. He loves baking. He loves eating and being warm. This is a boy who is fairly easy to please, it doesn't take much to make him smile. Praise of his food, a kind word, even a bad joke.

It could be said that Eiran has become complacent in his position, and that wouldn't be too far from the truth. Eiran is not a young man who thinks terribly far into the future. He doesn't have high ambitions for himself, and the thought of doing something that would vault him into a higher social position never really crosses his mind. He likes to be comfortable, and as long as he feels warm, well fed and loved he sees no reason why anything should change.

Eiran is a boy who loves a joke or a prank - so long as nobody gets hurt. He has been known to hide a person's shoes or favorite belt, and he appreciates a bad pun more than most. He loves to play, and this playfulness comes through in his craft, especially when he's shaping little marzipan candies into whimsical shapes.

Seeing people upset or distressed brings out his inherent need to help. Eiran possesses a wonderfully diplomatic personality, he has a knack for smoothing over ruffled feathers with a few well chosen words and, perhaps, a bubbly pie. He values harmony and balance and wants to see other people as peaceful and content as he is. It's not just the way he smells that is comforting to others, it's everything about him.

Because he is a gentle boy, Eiran is naturally vulnerable to bullies. While he gets along with most people very well and can charm his way out of most unpleasant confrontations, sometimes people just want to be mean for the sake of being mean. Eiran is not one to take abuse sitting down, but he does not have the temperament to be cruel or physically abusive. Instead, he employs his wits and finds ways to humiliate people who insist on mistreating him, though only as a last resort after he has tried to resolve things like a gentleman. He might sneak you a pie filled with something foul, he might hide all of your clothing when you're running late for your lessons... Generally, once people have gotten on Eiran's bad side once, they don't usually do it again. And as soon as a bully has been humiliated in front of as many people as possible, Eiran considers the score settled and moves on with things. No grudge-holding here, simply Eiran's version of justice. However, some people just don't take very well to being humiliated, and they get even more enraged after the fact. There are not a lot of people who harbor and maintain an active hatred of Eiran, but his pranks - especially those in retaliation to a bully - have made him some long standing enemies. All the boy can do is avoid these individuals as much as possible, and take advantage of his small stature and quickness to make a hasty escape when necessary.

THE DRAGON

User Image

Egg Name: Knockabout Egg
Egg Description:
This egg is one of the largest in the clutch (not that that's saying much). It's also rather active so far as eggs go, and has whacked into all of its neighbors at one point or another. And it is very happy to see you! You're so much more interesting than anything going on in here. ..Ohh, wait, who's that there?
Egg Clutch: Suunath
Rider Name: Eiran
Dragon Name: Laeonaith
Dragon Size: Below Average/Slim
Personality:
Saying this bronze is quirky is like saying the sky is blue; it's a simple fact. The first thing anyone should know before coming in contact with Laeonaith is that he's a hoarder. He loves shiny things, constantly "collecting" them – with or without their owner's knowledge or permission – and dragging them back to his weyr. If confronted on the matter, bemusement will be his reaction, because obviously the shinies have found a better home, so why can't he keep them?

When it comes to focus and attention span, he is always at one extreme or another. When dealing with something that interests him, he can become so hyperfocused that he'll lose track of time, forget to eat, etc. On the other hand, when not hyperfocused, he is very easily distracted, especially by shinies; it's not unheard of for him to simply wander off mid-conversation. He is also a clumsy dragon, his gangly build and dual nature giving the impression of an eager but awkward puppy. And like a puppy, he often forgets to mind his surroundings, making the unintended destruction of property an unfortunately frequent headache for his rider to deal with.

Bravery and leadership are not really Laeonaith's thing. Oh, he can do it if he must, but he would much rather be left alone to do his own thing. Outside of drills and fighting Thread, this bronze wants to be different. He insists too many people and dragons "go with the flow," and while he doesn't actively flaunt it, he does make a conscious effort to not fit in, regardless of the opinions of others, and encourages his rider to do the same.

User ImageInspired by ground squirrel.

Why Me?
Just as leadership isn't really Laeonaith's thing, ambition really isn't Eiran's, which means they're going to get along just fine! What Eiran does have, though, is a diplomatic mind and wonderful ability to smooth ruffled feathers, which will undoubtedly come in handy when Laeonaith has gotten too excited and inadvertantly made a mess of things (not to mention when he's stolen something!). In exchange, this bronze will shake up his rider's life whether he likes it or not; lack of ambition to rise in rank is fine, but sheer, general complacency is not. Doing something different can bring happiness, too!

All the things that Laeonaith steals will go here. Also, any firelizards that the pair eventually acquire.

THE STORY
RP's and meta-involvement will go here.

META: The Theft and The Impression

The Theft and The Impression

Knockabout gave himself a shake, sending drops of egg goop flying across the cavern. Where was his where was his? He couldn't see him but he could feel him quite close by. Well if he couldn't find His, maybe His could find him. Rearing up on his hind legs the bronze dragon bugled and reached out for the mind that matched his own.

The young baker's apprentice hadn't meant to go along on the hunt. In fact, he hadn't really even been invited. But there had been something that had caused him to follow the group, quietly and unobtrusively and unnoticed. Though he hadn't dared venture into the cave, especially once the fighting had started. Instead, he had hid in the bushes, having difficulty determining what he was even doing here. It was as if the normally cheerful boy had been possessed, overcome by some strange compulsion. It was a good thing he had a pocket full of meatrolls to snack on while he waited for... well. He couldn't really be waiting for anything. Perhaps they would end up camping over night, and then he could cook for them.

When the voice resonated in the blond boy's head, there was an instant of shock. This could not be happening to him! He wasn't a candidate, he was just a baker, a lowly weyrbrat. There was no way a dragon would pick him!

The boy bolted out of the bushes and shoved his way past the dragons and the people in the entrance, eliciting a number of confused and irritated grumbles. But it didn't matter, not in the slightest! He stumbled to a stop in front of Leonaith, his blue eyes wide, panting a little from the sprint.

"Leonaith! You are beautful!" The newly impressed boy said, throwing his arms around the dragon's neck. The bronze was gorgeous and impressive and His. Eiran had never known such an instant, intimate bond with anything or anyone before. Digging the meatrolls out of his pocket, he offered them to the dragon while he looked around for more food.
