I feel embarressed to admit this, but I'm not sure WHERE I'm supposed to post information about my research or intelligence -- if I am supposed to at all.

anywho, with that in mind, please make use of this however appropriate, and if you can, explain to me my position and responsibilities?

I just read the Manga Update... at first I saw the words "Gino Gambino has been murdered" and freaked out. but as soon as I read Edmund's statement I knew it was a ruse. so my question is, what do you think they are planning?

what is Gino up to, and why does he need to fake his death? if Zhivago hasn't killed him, don't they know that Luca will find out? is it possible this is a trap for the Don?

another possibility... has Gino realy died? and if this is the case, what is the purpose of this plan? is our hero-to-be using eldritch forces to counter the cult magic of the enemy?

I know this is not thought through yet, but that is why I am presenting it. I have been following this story closely and I don't want it to escape me. I want to spark attention to it immediately.

For a discussion, or a quick news flash, the main forum is fine. If you want to submit a detailed and organized report, that doesn't involve discussion, you can post it to the GiB System Database subforum. As of right now, I'd say this post qualifies as main forum material.

Anyhow, on the actual topic of discussion...
I also am highly skeptical that Gino is dead. They wouldn't just kill him "off panel" like that.
Let's consider the name of the story arc for a moment: Gambit. According to Dictionary.com, Gambit means:

1. Chess. an opening in which a player seeks to obtain some advantage by sacrificing a pawn or piece.
2. any maneuver by which one seeks to gain an advantage.
3. a remark made to open or redirect a conversation.

I think we can discard #3, which leaves definitions 1 and 2. These are essentially the same, with one notable exception: The first definition entails a sacrifice. Now, of the two sides in this confrontation--Team Gambino and Team Kuro, we'll call them--Team Kuro is much more likely to perform some kind of "sacrifice" to get what they want. Could it possibly be something like Don Kuro sacrificing Cordell to gain some kind of advantage? In his present condition, I wouldn't put it past him.

But if we take the second definition, it's more likely to refer to what we just witnessed: the announcement of Gino's death. This could be a "gambit" from Team Gambino: a trick they are attempting to pull, in order to gain an advantage over Team Kuro.

As for what Gino is up to, and what he hopes to gain, it may be too early to tell. Obviously, if they can actually make it convincing, then they can get the assassins off their back. Even if they can't fool the Kuros entirely, they're going to have to waste some time and manpower investigating this claim, and trying to find out if Gino is alive or not. So Edmund may simply be trying to buy them some time. Or perhaps it's some kind of elaborate set-up to trap the kuros, or somehow trick them into giving away some important information. That's the extent of what I'm willing to predict at this point... though, if anyone else has a more specific theory, I'd be interested to hear it.

don't be so fast to discard definition 3.... it may very well be that Team Gino is trying to redirect or "change the subject" as it were... perhaps it's a way to lure the Kuros into moving into the next stage of their plan prematurely, thus revealing their intentions?

just a thought. we can never overlook anything.

That would fall into definition #2, though. I think you're reaching a bit.

maybe you are right. I guess it kinda leads into semantics after a bit.

all the same, I'm excited. this has been an arc I have been paying very close attention to.

I for one think it's a sham. They're trying to throw the elves off Gino's trail.

Yeah, I'm excited, too. I can't wait to see how our glorious army of Dark Elves subjugate the planet Gino and crew get out of this one. twisted

I believe it is a sham. And like what Tim said, it is to gain an advantage over the Kuros. What I think Edmund is trying to achieve is making the Kuros move to the next phase of their plan, which requires Gino dead. But because he isn't, it will end up being the wrong choice.

Sadly, I don't believe it will work. Why? Cause the Kuros aren't idiots. Like what Cordella said in the Manga, it is most likely a trick. But I believe she will play a major role in the upcoming events with the Kuros. I believe she is afraid of her brother, the Don, and will eventually help his enemies stop him. But I guess we will wait and see.

given that she loves him dearly, has a certain amount of general wisdom and is in a position to see things more clearly from multiple perspectives... I think you are right about Cordell. she knows that he's gone bonkers, and that what he is doing is dangerous for everyone, himself and the Dark Elves included.
