Dec 6, 2012 8:07 PM
Dugaloth Aglaia shivered and pulled her coat closer around her as she stared out on the busy lawn. It looked like there were plenty of people playing with Leo today. And she had no idea where Matt was. She had no idea what to do with her time. She sighed and figured she might as well go to the owlery to send the letter she had written earlier that day.
Dec 6, 2012 8:09 PM
Dugaloth She started off, her feet scuffing through the frosted grass as she made her way over to the tall wing that haoused the owlery. She pulled her hands up to her mouth and blew on them to warm them up and then shoved them back into her coat pockets. She started up the stairs and did so carefully as they were slightly iced over. "Whew, I sure hope no one has any accidents on these stairs."
Dec 6, 2012 8:14 PM
As if a jynx were spoken, boy who was busy hurrying down the steps for whatever reason missed seeing the ice and slipped. His feet slid out from under him and caused him to fall backward. It was so sudden he didn't have time to make a sound.
Dec 6, 2012 8:17 PM
Dugaloth Aglaia looked up to see a white haired afro boy slipping seconds after she had muttered that and fall hard on his backside. She cringed and rushed over to him. "Are you okay?" she asked bending over him and gripping him by his coat to pull him up to see if his head was okay.
Dec 6, 2012 8:21 PM
Jericho winced as he felt his sore bottom, glad he was wearing layered clothes, but wishing frost was more easily distinguishable from the stone steps. He gasped a bit in pain as his coat was tugged on, but he looked up and smiled weakly at the girl. It was a wonder he hadn't crashed into her. Nodding in response to her question, he asked, "You?"
Dec 6, 2012 8:24 PM
Dugaloth Aglaia knew the boy's backend had to be really sore from the fall so she knew he was just saying he was fine to save face. She hid a smile behind a hand and then gave him a hand to help him to his feet. She braced herself against the railing so she wouldn't fall when she pulled him up. "Oh I'm fine, you fell pretty far from me. Do you want some help down?"
Dec 6, 2012 8:28 PM
Taking her hand, he nodded in gratitude and shivered as he carefully got back to his feet. Now his hands were colder than ever, wet with ice and scraped up. He should have brought his gloves. "Slippery..." He murmured. "Thanks." Dec 6, 2012 8:34 PM
Dugaloth Aglaia could tell that the boy was still a bit stunned from the fall. She could feel his hands had gotten scrapped up and he'd need to get them looked at. She glanced back at the owlery and then decided she could send her letter later. It wouldn't take long for her to help him down the stairs and to the infirmary if he wanted to go there. "Yeah it is slippery. I was just commenting on that when you fell." She said with a wince. "I sure hope I didn't jinx you. I'm Aglaia by the way." Dec 6, 2012 8:36 PM
Dugaloth Aglaia held onto his arm to keep him steady and then helped him walk down the stairs. "Do you want to go to the infirmary? I think you should get your head looked at first."
Dec 6, 2012 8:39 PM
He looked up at the pretty girl and committed her name to memory. "Aglaia..." he repeated. Then he shook his head. "Just my hands," he assured her. "Not bad." Glancing at them once more, he walked with her down the stairs. The snow could numb them; the cold was already helping with the pain. This gave him an idea. "Like snow?"
Dec 6, 2012 8:47 PM
Dugaloth Aglaia noticed finally got a look at the boy's eyes and saw that they were a light gray color. With his white hair it made him look like a ghost to her. "Well that's a relief, " she replied as they slowly descended the stairs. She slipped slightly on the last stair but managed to catch herself. "Man..I can't wait until all this frost and snow is over with." She said with a slight shiver. "Snow would help with numbing your hands. My Ma used snow on my thumb after I smashed it in a car door. It was pretty painful." Dec 6, 2012 9:14 PM
Jeri smiled sheepishly. Seemed like she didn't enjoy snow after all. Maybe he could help with that, though. Taking her hand carefully in one of his own, he offered to lead her down to the courtyard where there were piles of snow.
Dec 6, 2012 9:18 PM
Dugaloth Aglai wondered why the boy hadn't told her his name yet. Was he just shy? Or did he just not want her to know his name? Dec 6, 2012 9:20 PM
Dugaloth It wasn't that she didn't like snow, it was more of she didn't like the cold that came with it. It had always been like that. She got cold too easily and then it took forever for her to warm up. She was a bit startled when he took her hand and led her down into the courtyard where the snow had been piled up. She couldn't help but think how much fun it would be to make a snow sculpture. "So what is your name?" She asked turning to look at him.

(Continued on Dec. 9th) Kitomyx "Oh. Jericho," he answered, realizing he'd forgotten to intrduce himself. "Jeri. Sorry," he added apologetically, redding a bit in embarrassment. That done, he pointed to the pile of snow with a smile at Aglai and started shaping it meaningfully. 1:37 PM
Dugaloth Aglaia smiled back at him and reached over to brush off some snow that was starting to pile up on his shoulder. "Jericho, that's a nice biblical name. It's okay, you were probably too cold to hear everything I was saying." Aglaia glanced to the pile of snow he had pointed too and then a grin formed on her face when he started to shape it. "Oh, what are we going to make?" She joined him by the pile of snow and then looked it over. There was probably enough to make a castle or even a snow man. 1:46 PM
Kitomyx Jeri blinked, unsure of any biblical references his name might have had. He thought it had something to do with the meaning of 'moon city', but that was just something he vaguely thought he remembered hearing as a chid. He brightened, however, at her use of the term 'we' instead of 'you', indicating that she, too, wanted to help him make something. He scratched his head, thinking for a second. "Snow fort?" he suggested. 1:50 PM
Dugaloth Aglaia noticed he seemed a bit startled to hear his name was from the bible. "Jericho was the name of a city mentioned in the bible. I gather you didn't know that until now. A Snow fort would be fun! I'll work on the wall on this side.." She said and moved over to the other side of the pile parallel from him. "since there are two of us it shouldn't take too long." Aglaia got to work packing the snow and starting to make the beginning of a wall. 1:58 PM
Kitomyx "'Moon city'...?" He asked, curious. He wondered more about what role his name had in the story of the bible. He shook his head to show that no, he hadn't known that until now. He was grateful for the information. "Okay," he responded, working on another wall. "Right!" 2:01 PM
Dugaloth Aglaia was surprised that he knew the meaning of his name. Most kids weren't even curious about what their names meant. Then again..most names didn't even have interesting meanings. 2:04 PM
Dugaloth "Yep that's what it means. If I recall correctly there was a battle for the city, I'll have to look it up again." She paused in her work on the snow and shook her braid to get the snow off of it. She really should have wrapped it up under her coat and scarf. She took a few minutes to do that and then went back to adding snow to the top of her now stable base. "Just how high should we make these? If we make them too high they'll collapse. Maybe we should ice them up so they won't fall in? What do you think?" 2:08 PM
Kitomyx Jericho thought about this for a moment before nodding vigerously. That sounded like a great idea! He gave her a thumbs up and tried to think about how they could 'ice them up' as Aglaia put it. He stood back after he had built up the foundation of his wall, packing it in, and looked to her. "Ice them...?: 2:10 PM
Dugaloth Aglaia was happy to see that Jericho thought her idea was a good one. She grinned to herself as she packed on another layer of snow. She glanced back up when she heard his question. "We could bring out water and just throw it on them. It would freeze pretty easily. Or we could get buckets put snow in them and melt that. Which would be easier?" 2:13 PM
Kitomyx The Hufflepuff glanced at the snow around them and thought that it might be better to take the melted snow. But one thing bothered him. "Water won't melt the snow...?" he asked, fearing their walls would be weakened more than strengthened when they poured the water on. 2:15 PM
Dugaloth "You do know it's like 12 degrees outside today right? the snow won't take much heat to melt it, and then it will cool off really fast. If we pour it on slowly..like with a ladle or something that would help. Or we could go find a spell that would let us just ice over the snow. I'm sure there is one." Aglaia replied. 2:31 PM
Dugaloth Aglaia cast a look around and then frowned slightly. "Well one of us would have to stay here just in case someone were to try and destroy what we've done already. There are some really annoying slytherins that do stuff like that." 2:33 PM
Kitomyx Jeri nodded and gave her a salute, going to stand guard in front of their castle. 2:35 PM (CONTINUED)
Kitomyx "Buckets in the shed...?" He asked, glancing toward the direction of the broom shed where the school's brooms and other sporting equipment was kept. 2:36 PM
Dugaloth Aglaia couldn't help but giggle at his antics. "Well Soldier if you keep good guard of our fortress you shall be rewarded with some hot chocolate for your efforts. There are buckets in the shed, I remember seeing them there." She said and finished packing the snow on her wall. It was now about three feet high. "See you on my return!" She replied saluting Jericho back and then stomped off through the snow to go look up that spell she had read about. " 2:38 PM
Kitomyx The boy grinned. He thought that was really sweet of Aglaia to offer to get them hot chocolate. Also, it'd be nice to have a warm drink while in the shelter of their hand-made fort. "Thanks," he told her gratefully, breathing hot air on his hands. They were already feeling much better and he'd forgotten about the pain from his fall thanks to his new friend. At least, he liked to think of her as one. "See you," he called back.
2:42 PM
Dugaloth Aglaia was glad to see Jericho in a good mood and grinned back at her. Man..it felt as though it were getting colder. Soon enough the teachers would be making them all come in for the afternoon. After all they couldn't afford to let the kids freeze to death. Which meant she'd have to hurry and get that spell and the hot chocolate before a teacher caught her. "Your welcome Jeri," She called back over her shoulder as she started to walk away. Jericho seemed like a nice kid. She hoped that they'd be able to hang out more after this. She still hadn't made too many friends outside of her own house. That was something that she'd need to work on. 2:43 PM
Kitomyx Jeri was glad for the change in climate because it meant he could spend more time outside without worrying so much about getting sunburned. There was still the blinding snow to worry about with the sunlight glinting off it, but as long as one didn't stare at the ice crystals too long, they could avoid being blinded. He wondered absently if the lake had frozen over hard enough to skate on and what the creatures who lived underwater did. 2:57 PM
Dugaloth Aglaia made her way around the other kids on the lawn who were playing in the snow and made her way up the side steps to the side door on the East side of Hogwarts. She slipped inside and made her way first to the kitchens were she begged a thermos of hot chocolate from one of the House Elves making food for dinner later that evening.
Then with the thermos in hand she made her way down the hallway to the library. She left the thermos at the librarian's desk and made her way over to the charms section of the library and tried to find the book she had looked at only a few days before. She was starting to get worried that someone had checked it out when she couldn't find it on the shelf. She was relieved when she found it a moment later..stuck on the shelf in the wrong place. What was it with kids that they couldn't stick books back where they belonged?
She flipped through the book to the section she needed and then carefully read and reread the spell until she had it down in her memory. She then closed the book and put it back in it's proper place and went back to grab the thermos and then quickly exited the library and skipped down the hall to the side door and slipped back out into the cold afternoon. It took her about two more minutes to trudge through the snow, which was now at least two inches higher than it had been before, to reach Jericho. "Hey, I'm back. Have some hot chocolate." She said and tossed the thermos to him. 3:04 PM
Kitomyx The second year, nodded in thanks and smiled through chattering teeth. His complexion was now a little bluish from the cold, but he didn't seem to mind much at all. Accepting the hot drink, he tilted his head and scooted a bit to make place for Aglaia on a little lump of a seat he'd made out of packed snow. His robes were pulled tight around him. "How?" he asked her, holding up the drink as he took a deep sip* 3:08 PM
Dugaloth Aglaia took a seat nex to Jericho, going a little red in the face at just how close she was to him. She had never sat so close to a boy before. At least he might think her red face was more so because of her being out in the cold. She turned to watch him take a sip from the thermos. "Looks like you got pretty cold out here." She commented taking off her gloves and then reached over to lay her hot hands on his face in an attempt to warm it up. "We can't have you going and getting frostbite now can we?" She asked gently letting them sit there for a few moments before she slide them off and pulled her mittens back on. "Well it's a spell actually. If we use the Augamente spell we can shoot jets of water from our wands. That should work don't you think?" 55 mins ago
Kitomyx The pale-eyed boy, oblivious as he was, did indeed think that Aglaia must have just been red from the cold. He shook his head, saying, "I don't mind," to let her know he regretted nothing. He flinched a bit when she took off her gloves to place her hands on his face, however, and then he knew his -own- cheeks were getting red. They were warmer now, but not just because of her hands. "Thank you," he said softly once he was sufficently warm. "You'll get cold," he told her, putting his hands over hers and then taking her gloves to place them back in her possesion. At her mention of the spell, he chuckled a little. "Not the water," he clarified. "The drinks. How?" 44 mins ago
Dugaloth Aglaia felt his face flare up under her hands but figured she wouldn't mention it. It would only make him even more embarrassed. "Well that's good." She replied with a small smile. She was a bit surprised when he placed his hands over hers before she could put her gloves back on. "So considerate, it's nice to find a boy like that." She said this time blushing bright red. "Oh I got it from the kitchens. One of the House Elves and I are friends. I owe her some of my christmas candy now, but I don't mind." She said tossing her head back and glancing at the walls around them. "Shall we get this done before it gets any colder?" She asked taking a sip from the thermos before she stood up to start working on a second wall. 41 mins ago
Kitomyx "Um, thanks," Jeri answered, looking at his feet as she complimented him. He wasn't used to being complimented like that. But her story about being friends with one of the House Elves interested him. He hadn't ever even seen one the whole time he had been there, which was over a year now. Almost two. "Oh, right," he responded, brought back to the present by her mention of the wall. He took out his wand from his robes and tried to concentrate. 39 mins ago
Dugaloth Aglaia was surprised that he was so sigh about being complimented. Maybe no one had ever done that before? She frowned slightly. He was definitely going to need to get used to it. From what she knew of him for the short time she knew him, he was a complete gentleman. Something she had been looking for but hadn't found in any of her House mates. "Actually..my parents sent her to keep an eye on me. She used to work for my family." Aglaia replied seeing he was interested in her being friends with a House elf. She made quick work of constructing the second wall, as now she had a better idea of how thick and how high it should be. Once that was done, she pulled her wand out, took a deep breath and then said firmly with her wand less than six inches away and said, "Aguamente." A small stream of water shot out of the end of her wand and over the packed snow, and instantly froze over it, making the snow harden and become a glazed color. "It worked!" She exclaimed excitedly. 12 mins ago
Kitomyx Oh, he hadn't realized House Elves could do that. Perhaps Aglaia's family was very wealthy. They had to be a wizarding family for sure if they had a house elf. It was nice that her parents care enough to send one to watch over their daughter. "Pure-blood...?" he asked offhandedly as they worked, not sure if Aglaia would take offense. Watching the other girl, he held his wand as she did and tried to imitate her, never before having attempted this spell himself. "Aguamenti," he tried, startled by the water that shot out of his own wand in a similar fashion. His astonishment became a delighted smile as Aglaia exclaimed aloud in excitement. "Brilliant," he remarked. "Nice thinking."

Dugaloth Aglaia blushed and shook her head, "No actually I think I'm a mixed blood. Both my parents were halfbloods..or less." She was surprised that he had asked..not that she really cared who knew. She could care less about blood status. The only reason why the House elf had been sent to the school was to keep an eye on her. Not to mention that the House Elf had been attached to her not the family. Apparently one of her god parents had given her family the House elf after she was born so they could have some help. Her family had never treated the House elf like most people did, which was why she was friends with the rather crotchity male. She grinned rather pleased with how the spell worked and then bowed her head slightly to Jeri. "Well..I do have a brilliant mind." Dec 9, 2012 9:44 PM
Jeri tilted his head and grinned as Aglaia blushed. She was really good at magic, though he knew that probably had nothing to do with blood. Like most Hufflepuffs, Jericho believed in fairness, so blood didn't really matter to him either, though he thought House Elves were pretty rare except among richer families, like the aristocratic purebloods. Not like he knew anything, nor was it any of his business. As Aglaia accepted the compliment and seemed to agree, he realized he didn't know what house or year she was in. "...Ravenclaw?" he guessed by her statement. Dec 9, 2012 9:46 PM
Dugaloth Aglaia rather liked the look of Jeri when he was smiling. She wondered if it was something he had a habit of doing. Most likely. If he wasn't then it would look strange or strained. She couldn't help but laugh at his assessment. Then again..she wasn't wearing her house clothing so it was hard for people to figure out her house. "Actually I'm in Gryffindor, but thanks for thinking I'm smart." Dec 9, 2012 9:50 PM
He blinked in surprised. "Smart Gryffindor," he commented. "Many talents." He sat down in the shelter of their now-foritfied fort, patting some more snow into place to reinforce the frozen-solid walls. It seemed a nice place for a nap, especially after he finished the hot cocoa that Aglaia had brought them. Taking the cup up again, he leaned back against the stablized wall and drank, feeling decidedly cozy. "Thanks, Aglaia." Dec 9, 2012 9:52 PM
Dugaloth Aglaia laughed at his surprise and watched as he sat down inside the four walls. She frowned. Just how were they going to get a roof on it now? That posed a problem. "Thank you." She murmured and laid down next to him to stare up at the open top to try and get an idea. "We need a roof. I wonder if there are any boards inside the shed we could use. Then we could put some snow on top and freeze that with water." She mused. "What do you think?" Dec 9, 2012 9:55 PM
He looked at her sleepily, wondering for a minute about what she was talking about before realizing she was referring to a roof. Did forts have rooves? He'd always thought they had those castle tops or something so that people could see over them and look out for enemies...but then maybe a roof would be a good idea. Would ice work for that? Maybe with boards, sure, but they'd already taken the buckets...would the house elves get mad...? "Boards...sound good..." he murmured, feeling insulated and warm against the snow fort. Dec 9, 2012 9:57 PM
Dugaloth Aglaia couldn't help but laugh at his sleepy expression and slapped him gently on the face. "No falling asleep out here..you'll freeze." She told him as she got up, nudging him slightly as she manuevered to her feet. "Come on," She said grabbing his arm and pulling him to his feet. "Let's get this done and then we can put a protection charm on it and go in."

The Hufflepuff blinked as he was woken abruptly. He wasn't an expert on snow, but he was pretty sure that igloos were made precisely because snow was well-insulated and kept its occupants warm. Of course, unlike their fort, an igloo was round and almost completely sealed off, but Jeri's habit of taking naps in the middle of the day was getting to him. "Go in...?" he asked, wondering if she meant go inside or stay in the fort. That was nice of her not to want him to freeze, but he felt fairly fine where he was, warm and full of hot cocoa.

Dugaloth "Inside," Aglaia said with a twinkle in here eyes. Despite it being warm in the fort, Aglaia knew that without a roof they'd soon be covered in snow. "If we don't make a roof we'll get covered in snow. And..I think it's nearly dinner time." 17 mins ago
So it was. How time flew when you were having fun. Sleepy Jeri grudgingly managed to get himself to his feet to join Aglaia. Whatever became of their fort, maybe they could finish it after dinner. If not, it had been fun to make nevertheless, and they could always create a new one. Maybe a better one, in case they needed to withstand a snowball fight or something. For now, though, he was tuckered out. "That was fun," he told Aglaia. "Thanks for helping." 13 mins ago
Dugaloth Aglaia could see that finishing the fort now probably wasn't going to happen. Jeri looked really sleepy. Perhaps later he'd have more energy to get it done. She smiled at him. "It was fun, next time we should make an igloo. " Aglaia was still holding Jeri's hand. She was surprised that he hadn't pulled it away. "I really enjoyed myself. We should hang out more." 9 mins ago
The pale-haired boy beamed at her drowsily, apperently unaware his hand was still in Aglaia's. He nodded as he trudged back up toward the castle, their empty mugs in his other hand. Maybe next time they could get some other kids involved too. They could make snow angels, snow men, and maybe have those snowball fights in which snow forts were usually used. He figured the one they made today was sturdy enough to last until they needed it for later. "Yeah," he agreed, "We should." 4 mins ago
Dugaloth Despite the icy wind sweeping down on them, Aglaia barely felt it. She couldn't help but beam back at him. He was rather cute when he looked drowsy and sleepy. She let go of his hand once they arrived at the door that lead into the school. "Well..I'd better go change and get dried up for dinner. Shall I catch you later?" just now
By this time, any aches or pain Jericho had felt from his earlier fall were gone. He just felt warm and content, glad to have made a new friend today, and with a pretty, clever Gryffindor at that. Nodding wordlessly with a dreamy look, the boy already felt like he was half asleep with the girl that reminded him of a snow angel bidding him farewell. He waved good-bye and answered, "Later," before shaking his head and rubbing the sleep from his eyes. He would need to keep awake to eat dinner, after all.
