Land

Needle Drake [A very territorial reptile, it attacks and protects itself from foes with the thousands of quills lining its back. The quills are poisonous, making this a dangerous animal to tango with, especially for predators. If a quill falls off, a new one will grow in to replace it within 24 hours. Their mating habits consist of the female locating a male by vibrating its quills, thus making a distinct noise that can be projected for over four miles.]

Sand Rabbit [These animals are the literal form of the old term "dust bunny". They usually move alone, though can group together by assimilation, thus creating a larger Sand Rabbit. They also have a hive mind trick, so as to control their larger variations. When threatened, a Sand Rabbit will suddenly vanish, the dust particles floating along on the wind until they reach a location they deem safe, before reforming. It is unknown if they have any organs whatsoever. The only known way to catch a Sand Rabbit is with a vacuum.]

Chameleoraptor [A heavy mutation on the docile lizard, it has now become very aggressive, not to mention undergone a physical change to resemble a small dinosaur, though stands nearly as tall as a man. They are very dangerous, considering they can blend in with their surroundings and strike at any moment, making them very unpredictable. They usually travel alone, though find strength in numbers when invading another animal's territory.]

Ash Spider [These arachnids don't play around. When measured from front to back, they estimate around four feet. Ash Spiders usually travel in small groups, making homes out of the rubble around them and holding it together with their silk, which is about as strong as steel, yet very thin. They get their names from their unique ability, and that is sending out fiery webs to burn and contain their victims. They will then feast on the charred ashes. Everyone who's anyone knows to stay as far away from these arachnids as possible.]

Rothound [Rothounds are very vicious dogs, and always travel in packs, ranging from 3 to 7 per group. They get their name from the condition of their skin. Because of this, chances to save the dogs and de-mutate them is very slim. They will usually attack-and if successful, eat-anything, and this includes the dangerous Goliaths and Harbingers. If you come across a pack of these animals, stay perfectly still; they react to sudden movement and think you're hostile.]

Roadrunner [Not all that different from their ordinary forms, Roadrunners are a species of bird that run at insanely fast speeds. Ever since the meteor struck, these animals have had their speed increased. By running at top speed, they can somehow create a small rift in the space around their path, usually bringing up events in that space that have happened in the past, but also tell something of the future as well. Since no one knows which, they can only watch the event unfold. It is unclear whether these afterimages can be affected by anyone from the present, though on multiple occasions, people have tried, only to have the image vanish a second before.]

Tortuga Fuego [So named because they were first seen around Central America. Tortuga Fuego, the "fire turtle", was first seen crawling around the base of a volcano. Their shells have adopted a similar appearance to volcanoes, and they are even able to shoot lava from the holes. The turtles are unaffected by it, and can even bathe in the molten magma. Their food source is unknown, but they do not appear to be hostile, but rather, cautious. When they spurt, it is a sign that they are afraid, and would like to keep their distance.]

Machine Eaters [A strange creature that does not resemble anything from Earth, both before and after the cataclysm. Machine Eaters, like their name entails, survive by eating anything mechanical. Their prime food targets are Andros, though they can sense Mimics as well, as they have an inept ability to recognize body heat in any person or animal, and use this to avoid anything organic. Sometimes they wander into a Babysitter's nest and munch away at what it has collected.]

Kittik [A small insect-like creature that resembles a cat with insect mandibles, legs, and shell. They make nests by burrowing into a host, from which they then develop a symbiotic relationship with. They provide the host with small doses of their natural power in return for shelter. Such abilities it grants are giving it greater strength and agility. A side effec is that the host will develop feline characteristics, such as ears and tail. However, a Kittik can-and will-burrow into just about any living thing, which includes the pesky mutants of all things. Kittiks feed on the blood of their host, and in doing so, reduce it's lifespan, depending on how long the Kittik stays in, which works against the creature.]

Jolt Kittik [A relative of the Kittik family, the Jolt Kittik is the electirical member, and upon burrowing into the host, they will give them electrical properties in favor of speed and agility. The host can use this power as they see fit, though range is limited. The host will still develop the ears and tail, however, as well as the reduced lifespan.]

Ice Kittik [The Ice Kittik is the frosty member of this family, and will provide ice-based abilities to its host after burrowing into them. Strangely, they are the only member of the family to make the host the longest. This may be due to its ability to cryogenically preserve the host when both are dormant or not active. This preservation wears off if the host wakes up, however.]

Mire Kittik [The fourth member of the Kittik family, a Mire Kittik gives the host the ability to survive in the harsh environment, as well as go swimming without any gear, as if they were a fish. Prolonged periods of subsurface exploration are out of the Mire Kittik's capacity, so the host must still come up for air. The Mire Kittik is also the member that has the incapacity to preserve its host, as toxins from water weaken the host and reduce their lifespan at a greater rate.]

Flame Kittik [The fiery member of the family, the Flame Kittik bestows fire-based abilities upon the host after burrowing into them. This also grants the host invulnerability to fire-based attacks, though they cannot absorb flames the way a Senti could.]

Air

Grutt [A mutated bat species that are almost as large as a full grown man. They nest in ruined buildings, avoiding the broken windows as much as possible. They get their name from their sharp claws, which are strong enough to gut a Goliath. Their feeding habits are like that of a vulture, only eating dead animals.]

Skyflyer [No one is quite sure what this creature is, as it is rarely seen. If you do happen to see it, you will spot two very wide wings connected to a rather short, slim body. The hide of this beast is grey, yet somehow it is able to shine. If it is grounded, it will use the claws on its wings as forepaws. This rare beast is currently classed under reptile, as no one knows its genus just yet.]

Bladed Owl [These creatures' habits don't seem to be affected by the mutation, carrying on as if nothing happened. However, their feathers have become so sharp, one can cut themselves just by simply touching them. This makes capturing difficult, as their feathers seem to be able to slice through any material. Many people have died at the hands of these animals, the majority being stupid enough to piss one off. They travel in flocks of four or five, hunting for food, dead or alive.]

Sky Spider [Sky Spiders are a relative to Ash Spiders, though much smaller in size. Their attitude remains, however. Sky Spiders float along through the air thanks to a thin membrane between their legs, much like a flying squirrel. They will spit out webs at anything they perceive as a threat, which is pretty much everything, and if struck, the webs will drag the victim down to the ground. The webs also contain a toxin that puts the victim to sleep. When a Sky Spider goes to claim its prize, it wastes no time in devouring its meal, or as much of it as it can. This results in animals having what appear to be bite marks after the Spider has left and someone stumbles across the scene.]

Ghost Hawk [Ghost Hawks are perhaps the most dangerous animals in the sky. Their aggression has spiked, causing them to attack at random, and seemingly for no reason at all. It is unsure if they even know what they're doing, as one report states one of these animals attacking a trash can that was used as a bonfire the previous day. A logical theory is that said bonfire contained traces of meat. But aside from their random dive-bombs, it is their strange ability to "phase" that earns them their names. These animals are able to phase in and out of tangibility, though still seen with the naked eye. When they've phased, a white silhouette replaces their damp, white color that was a side-effect of the mutation.]

Pigfly [Well I'll be damned. These animals, however, take on a drastically different appearance than one may think at first. Instead of appearing simply like a pig with wings, they instead take on a more insect-like form, though still retain the snout and pig legs. They will even squeal when something draws near, alerting the rest of the colony before producing an odd, noxious gas. Samples have come back to show the gas is actually methane. Their wings are long and thing, much like a dragonfly's.]

Harpy [People who have had the misfortune of mutating have often found themselves turned into this mythological creature, retaining their human head, but their body drastically changed to resemble that of a large bird. It is unknown why the mutation would result in this rather than a regular mutant, though scientists are trying to discover why. People who become Harpies usually have a slight decrease or increase in brain activity, turning them either into mindless monsters or avid scholars. Why it's a toss of the coin is also being questioned. The mindless variety act like any other animal; hunting, eating, protecting its territory, while the more intelligent are often found as companions, usually to Senti.]

Skysnake [A long serpent with several sets of insect-like wings. The older the Skysnake, the more sets of wings it has. They are very aggressive, and try to attack anything that comes near, sometimes eating the smaller aerial animals whole by dislocating its lower jaw and stretching their mouths to as much as three feet. They have a venom in their fangs that rots anything it is injected into, and barbed tail, which resembles that of a scorpion, with paralysis venom, which immobilizes the larger prey, allowing it to feast on its now grounded meal.]

Fungusfly [A relative to the Pigfly, though very distant. A Fungusfly is an insect with spores covering it's thorax. Its habit is infecting humans with its spores by leaving them on the person's skin, which they will then bury into the now host. The host cannot do anything about this, and many come to fear death, as hundreds of newborn Fungusflies will emerge from the corpse. It has been proven, though, that the reproduction of these dangerous insects can be stopped if the host dies prematurely, usually by suicide.]

Sea

Ravera [Ravera are a type of anemone, but act more like Venus fly traps and are about as hostile as a Goliath. They wait for anything to pass by, and lash out to ensnare it in their tentacles. The tentacles are laced with a thin film of poisonous gel, which when stuck to its victim, slowly sap its life so it can't escape. The Ravera then devour the victim, bone and all, leaving nothing behind. They range in size from as small as a kitten to as large as a shark. There have been several missing persons reports of people who went in the water, and these creatures are the ones to blame.]

Glowfish [Glowfish look very much like blowfish, and glow when they puff up. When threatened, they bloat, which also lights up the surrounding area, but these fish hold a deadly secret; that glow is produced from electricity. If one provokes them enough, they will release a small burst of static. Glowfish often swim in schools, and can charge each other by producing electricity. If one manages to catch and contain these fish in some kind of container, they can be used as flashlights.]

The Deep Creature [Rumors around the globe mention a rather large creature of unknown origin making its home in the Pacific ocean. Others mention it is found in the Atlantic. Whatever the case, all these rumors hold an undeniable description. The Deep Creature is said to resemble some kind of squid or octopus, with one solitary eye on the other end of the head from its enormous tentacles. It is said this creature lurks in waters so dark, it is as if an eternal night has blanketed the deep. The last thing mentioned in the rumors is encountering the beast, where people claim to spot its gargantuan eye before the inevitable comes.]

Mist Spider [Mist Spiders are the aquatic variant in this arachnid family. They can skate across the surface of a pond, or swim in water by, what people call, farting. The Mist Spider's abilities also differ depending on whether it's above or below the surface. Above, the Mist Spider creates a cloud of gas that slowly knocks out the victims caught in it. The Spiders then drag the victims below to feast. When underwater, the mist takes on a different property, and that is creating air. This might seem refreshing when people or animals above the surface come into its territory, but for sea creatures, it's a quick path to death. The Spiders will then feast on the carcass, leaving only the bone behind.]

Bionite [A strange name given to a particularly interesting species of mutant fish. They appear to have something similar to strobe lights lining their sides and illuminating their physical features. Despite popular theory that these fish possess electrical properties, like the Glowfish, they actually do not, and that their lights are simply natural. They will flee from anything, first blinding the foe by brightening their lights before swimming away and turning them off, so as to avoid detection on where they went. This results in their schools splitting up, and they then use their lights to signal others to their location in order to regroup. Unfortunately, this also attracts unwanted guests, and they repeat the process again. Many Bionites spend much of their lives in recluse, when not fleeing for eternity.]

Piranha Zombie [Piranha fish, regularly, are already bad. Zombie versions only make them more dangerous. They will attack anything, despite its size or hostility, and attempt to bite it. Though the bitten sea animal will not "turn", as the phrase goes, it will instead be sapped of its life until it is nothing but bones at the bottom of the sea. Many people are trying to stop the Piranhas, but with little success. It is unsure just when, if at all, these animals will stop until the entirety of the sea is just a boney grave site. It is also unclear if these fish have any natural enemies.]

Mosquito Shrimp [An interesting mutation of the prawn, a Mosquito Shrimp has all the capabilities of living underwater, even with wings that resemble fins, with only the noticeable difference being their size and snout, which looks like a horn. They use this to suck in their food, freeing up their claws to perform other tasks. Mosquito Shrimp travel in large schools, usually ranging from upwards of 400 members. When all of them suck at once, it sometimes causes an underwater vacuum to be created, distorting the surrounding water and generally messing everything up.]

Leviathan [A crossbreed between a shark and a whale, this enormous creature scours the deeps of the oceans, only to surface for air, which it needs very little of, before going back down. It eats pretty much any type of fish without suffering any consequences of indigestion, making it one of the more dangerous sea creatures discovered so far. It has an extra pair of fins set behind the first, both equally massive to the beast's body, and several dorsal fins that act like blades along its back. Its scaly hide is red on the top, which gradates to a bluish-grey towards the belly. The tail fin is more shark than whale, with the same scaly distinction. The males can have several sets of whiskers, while the females, though fewer in number, have a longer nose. The offspring tend to stick to the mothers, hitching a ride as they feed on the toxins she secretes.]

Underground

Drillpig [Drillpigs are vicious when provoked, capable of taking down a squadron of soldiers on their own. They do not so much resemble pigs, but rather boars. Their hands and feet have extremely sharp claws which they use to drill their way through the ground. Drillpigs also move in packs of four, with one as the leader. This is determined by the length of their claws. A Drilpig sharpens its claws on rock, so as to get the edge in being the leader. Drillpigs also eat molten lava, and are found in some of the warmer climates.]

Soil Leech [A Soil Leech is much like an earthworm, though with a very noticeable difference. The more a Soil Leech eats, the bigger it gets. They live in damp soil, usually near bodies of water, which they will emerge into to unload. Soil Leeches are known for making tunnels, sometimes very small, to which your finger can fit through, to as big as four feet in diameter. If you ever run into these creatures, they will not attack you, considering some of the larger ones can eat someone whole.]

Noctupine [Noctupines are timid creatures at first glance, but come within the boundaries of their nest and you're in for something else. These animals resemble porcupines, which carries over into their name, but prefer to live below the surface. They always travel in groups, and are known to invade nests of other animals, even nests that lead to the surface. They do this by scaring the current inhabitants with their long, spiky quills so that they can easily move in. They then set up what appears to be some kind of organization, with some members guarding the entrances to their nests. When newborn Noctupines grow up, two adult males will travel with them and invade more nests. These animals are considered a menace to all.]

Cave Spider [Cave Spiders, in all meaning of the word, are just that; spiders that live in caves. Unlike its brethren, Cave Spiders do not hide potent abilities in their webs, but instead possess a very large set of mandibles, allowing them to easily rip up its victims. Their mandibles can also crush rock, given it is a certain density. Many times have these creatures battled other subterranean species, most often the Noctupines. They are the only creatures in which the Noctupines have never been able to invade their nests. Cave Spiders travel in small groups of three or so when they decide to explore in order to look for food and scout out possible locations to invade.]

Munchin' Mushroom [No one is quite sure what made these creatures, as they're simply botanical by nature. However, for some reason, they have a taste for meat, and will devour anything that comes near it. If you stand at a distance, these creatures will undulate. You may also spot what appears to be some kind of mouth on the top of the mushroom's cap. Though they may look to be fixed to whatever surface they grow from, these feral fungi are able to stretch in order to eat whatever may be within their range. Fortunately they cannot defend their sides, so it would be optimal to strike there should you have some type of blade, as all other attacks don't affect the fungi..]

The Strange Ones [In particularly foggy or dense areas of caverns are packs of odd creatures running about. These creatures, albeit extremely mysterious, appear to be humanoid in physical appearance, only much shorter and skinnier. They are no taller than a child of about nine or so. Other physical traits still remain a mystery, as they seem to constantly appear as if covered in shadows. Their hair is wild and unkempt, and they speak in a strange tongue that seems only they know what it means. They shun the light, and at the same time, are attracted to it, especially if it is from the flashlights of cave explorers or other such sources. They don't appear menacing, and really don't seem to harbor anything against people that intrude into their domains, but are rather just as curious about us as we are of them.]

Eternal Slug [While this may seem like an ordinary slug to most people, it actually holds an interesting secret. Before the wake of the meteor, these creatures burrowed deep underground to avoid the fires, and reemerged when they died off. Now exposed to the toxins, they have been given abilities bordering on immortal, and are able to1 regenerate if attacked. It was only recently known just how long their life cycles were when one was brought to a biologist, who confirmed the specimen to be over four hundred years.]

Soilrock Mass [No one is quite sure what this is, but its resemblance to a large mound of dirt, stone, or other similar materials is quite uncanny. They are often described as "moving mounds", as they will begin to move as soon as something steps on or near them. The last thing a victim will see is the ground opening up below them. They are also not restricted to below the surface, as some were found above ground, due to some reports of the earth suddenly eating people surfaced.]

Burrowhound [ A relative of the Rothounds, though disant, Burrowhounds act much like you'd expect them from the name. They are canine by default, but sort of resemble moles in he nose and size of their forelegs. They tunnel under the surface, ready to strike at anything they come across-literally. They'll sometimes go after waste barrels and anything inanimate, though will quickly go find something else.]

Dwarfsnake [A subterranean relative of the Skysnake, the Dwarfsnake is as its name would suggest, short in length. It likes to make homes in tunnels carved out by a Soil Leech, thus encroaching on their territory, and may eat the leech if it can catch it-or swallow it, depending on the size of the Soil Leech. Dwarfsnakes are brown in color, so as to blend in with the dirt, though their eyes are a distinct green. They have a way around this though; like many reptiles, they can produce a small film to protect the eye while still being able to see. These films are brown, just like their skin, and thus hiding their eyes to blend in completely.]

Mutant Species

Senti [Though not a lot of people suspect it, this is the first stage of mutation, on the way to more horrifying results if they are exposed to Terranium any more.]

Exposed [A blur between human and mutant, Exposed still retain the height and posture of a person, but with horrible deformities like larger limbs, for example. They will also begin the permanent shedding process at this stage.]

Young [This mutation happens directly after Exposed, or if a child has been contaminated enough to undergo mutation. Standing around five or six feet, with elongated, brutish arms, gangly legs and a detachable jaw with wild hair, these creatures will run amok through the wastes, always in groups of three to seven, no more no less. They are easy to take down, however.]

Goliath [Massive brutes standing around four stories, or 40 feet, at most (25 feet at their smallest) these hulking monstrosities are the stuff of nightmares. The arms have gotten larger while the legs have shrunken some, giving them an apelike appearance. They have lost almost all of their hair, as well as their genitalia for some unknown reason, and the canine teeth on their jaw have extended greatly to form tusks. With very low intelligence conversely tied to high strength, they are the most common menace of the wastes, and are very hard to bring down.]

Harbinger [The highest form of mutation known, Harbingers stand anywhere from 60 to 115 feet. They retain many features from their Goliath stage, such as the loss of genitals and tusks, though the latter are more pronounced. Their eyebrows have fused into one and extended outward, while their eyes have sunken in slightly, giving them a rather creepy look. What is interesting about this stage is that they have adopted magnetic properties, which allows them to render anything technological inert. They can also use it to bring anything metal towards them, which is the reason many are seen with metal plating on their shoulders, back, stomach, or other areas of their body. It is unknown at this point just how to bring them down.]

The following are sub-species.

Babysitter [These creatures can spawn from either an old person undergoing mutation, or a Goliath aging. Babysitters are very lanky, roughing it out around 20-30 feet in height. Their hands have extended into claws, as their legs have become more animalistic, similar to a cat or dog's. Their jawlines have extended well beyond the rest of their stretched skulls. They also appear to have lost their nose, as only the nasal cavity is seen. Their eyes have also sunken well into their already hideous visage. Babysitters get their name from taking care of Young until they are old enough to forage for themselves. They primarily take care of the Young in nests, similar to a bird, though the nests are made out of materials other than twigs and wood. Strangely, a Babysitter also has a hobby of collecting various trinkets and other similar objects, which has gone unexplained so far. Anyone who has made their way into a Babysitter's den has found they are capable of teleportation, or very high speeds, which makes them more of a danger than even a Goliath.]

Spine Walker [A relatively new type of mutation standing around 4 feet tall and 6 feet long, a Spine Walker is defined by their extended fingers and toes, so much so that they are long and sharp enough to puncture anything clean. strangely, though, their forearms and shins have receded dramatically, leaving the hands and feet to appear as if they're coming out of the joints. Their heads are very animalistic, with such a pronounced mouth, filled with teeth strong enough to crush concrete. Their eyes have separated and narrowed, adding to the animal appearance, while their noses have fallen off, leaving the cavity. However, from all this, a Spine Walker gets its name because of the pronounced spine coming out of the back, decorated with large spikes, similar to their fingers, though much shorter. The ones directly on the spine seem to be connected by some type of membrane, like the fin of a fish, with smaller needles covering the rest of their back. They travel in groups of varying size, and are relatively easy to take down.]

Wall Crawler [A new type of mutation where the infected being takes on a rather lizard-like appearance. They range in size from 6 to 9 feet across and 4 to 5 feet tall. Their limbs become gangly while their hands and feet adopt a suction quality to them, enabling these mutants to climb any surface. Their heads remain relatively humanoid, though they can shoot their tongues out, which can measure up to three times their body length, to grab their prey. Their tongues are very sensitive though, and can be cut easily. They are speedy buggers, so trying to take them down can often prove a challenge.]

Floor Creeper [These mutant tunnelers can pop up at any moment, ready to bring the stink. They have a worm-like appearance, aided only by the growth of many small insect-like legs to propel them along underground, and can range anywhere from 15 to 300 feet long, with a diameter of about 4 to 12 feet. A pair of antennae on their heads let them know where they're going, as they've lost their eyesight. They eat soil, which they can then convert into a noxious odor, and they let loose this odor whenever they surface. The power of this odor depends on how long they've stayed underground; the less they surface, the smellier it gets. The odor itself can even kill people when potent enough. These mutants are damn near impossible to kill, as they only surface to clear crowds. They are a nuisance to any Junction, and specialized soldiers with suits capable of withstanding the stench have been deployed to deal with these beasts. If you're looking to find one, look for a large group of people rather than just two or three. They like to spring their stench on an unsuspecting populace rather than wanderers.]
