Camilla sat on the floor of her dorm room as she stared at what sat in front of her. In one corner was the approved sketch. The sketch! Every time she thought about it Camilla’s face would always hold a huge smile and her heart would skip a beat. It was only last week when her work got noticed by someone and she got hired!
Since she was still young, at least a little, Camilla had went to her parents about it before starting on anything. Just like her, they were more than ecstatic that their little girl was getting noticed, in the art-world, nonetheless. It wasn’t like Camilla wouldn’t have done if her parents said no. She would have just done it in secret. “I’m so glad they’re more accepting now…”
There was a time where Camilla’s parents were not supportive of her hobbies at all. They tried to ‘steer her in the right direction’. It made Camilla’s life completely miserable, which is why she moved out of the house in the first place. She loved her parents, but couldn’t stand them not letting her do what she wanted. Camilla was lucky when she applied to Crystal Academy and got in with a full scholarship. It was the first time she had made her parents proud.
Now, It’s been twice!
She had started sketching the day she was asked and had gone in with more than 20 sketches the first time she talked to the store manager. They had had looked through them all together and chose one eventually. Camilla was now sitting in front of large pieces of poster paper, ready to make the stencils. Normally, she would just do them on a whim, but when she wanted something to be the very best of her abilities, she would make stencils. Sometimes, Camilla would even have to remake stencils.
Camilla had a fear of forgetting and rushing through the stencils, so starting early was a good thing. The manager hadn’t given her a specific date to do anything, but it was better to be prepared and work on the important parts slowly. “Mmm… All the excitement!”
It was only when she heard her stomach grumble when she realized she hadn’t eaten in a while. Camilla knew that the dining halls were most likely closed by now so she grabbed a bag of chips she kept as late night snacks. She made sure to sit on her bed, far away from the pieces, afraid that they’d get dirty or ruined in some way.
The piece that was on top, the one she was working before her snack break, was one of the letters. Camilla stared at it, examining the straight lines and the curves, making sure that all of it felt right. Underneath the first letter, she could see a skateboard and a rollerblade stencil under that. Those were the pieces she had gotten done right after her classes.
It wasn’t just once that she did it either. The skateboard took about 3 tries and the skates 5. Camilla had definitely gotten frustrated, but having her work known and seen by more people… The determination made her push back her frustration and work for hours straight. But it was slowly getting done! Her efforts were paying off!
Camilla took one of the art tubes that were hanging behind her door. She rolled up some of the finished pieces and stuck it in the tube. Tomorrow, she would go to the store and show them the pieces so far. “I hope they like it… Because I’m really exited!”
She finished her bag of chips, threw away the bag, and went out into the hall to wash her hands in the restrooms. Slowly but surely people would know her name and her work. Camilla knew she could go far with this and she would! “Maybe more commissions would come after this one!”
Camilla let out a small squeal as she walked back to her dorm room. Life finally felt right.
