I haven't seen you in ages. But I recently happened across Suzaka on tumblr so it got me thinking about you guys again c:
I have been so insanely busy the last few years. I decided I wanted to go to law school, so all of my time was eaten up keeping my grades up during undergrad. Now, I'm in law school and its eating up time that I didn't even know I had. Its been the craziest, coolest semester of my life so far. I did totally uncharacteristic things, like make friends with people in my program, and join a dodgeball team. Also I got a new boyfriend! And this summer, I'll be moving out of my parents house ooooo! Not nearly as grown up as you guys and your houses, but eh, I'm only 21.
Speaking of being 21, I'm also coming up on my 8th year since joining gaia! That actually just blows my mind. There are people in this guild who have known me since I was 13 and incredibly annoying! Wow, you guys. You're incredible. Thanks for putting up with me in those years, you're all brilliant c:

Holy crap. Kitsy is in law school? And 21? Damn! Grats on getting in! Is there a particular area of law you're looking at focusing on? My grades were not nearly good enough to get into law school, and even though when I worked in a law library I loved reading the journals we brought in I don't think I have the work ethic to do law.
You should definitely stop by and update us more! Good or bad, it's always wonderful to hear from old friends.

Haha, thanks Lea. c: I'm not really sure what type of law I'm most interested in... I feel like that's a frustrating decision to make when I'm so uninformed on what actually happens in real law offices. Any actual practicing lawyers I've spoken to have made it abundantly clear that law school is nothing like practicing so how can I possibly know what I want to do...!? Story of my life haha.
To be honest, my grades weren't really good enough to get in either. But! I can read at what turns out to be a vastly above average speed so I got a ludicrous score on my lsat. I had so much more time to work out the answers to the questions because I had finished reading the passages so much earlier! So yeah, I mostly skated in on natural ability. A big thanks to my parents for reading to me so much as a kid, I suppose. It paid off!
And in terms of work ethic...hahaha. I think it is a well kept secret among lawyers that we're all slackers and procrastinators. We're just better at hiding it, and making bullshit up on the fly. If I had dollar for every time a saw another student answering a question in class by skimming wikipedia, I could make a fort big enough to sleep in out of my loonies.

Congrats on getting into law school kitsy. ^.^ I forget that you're the same age as my sister - if it makes you feel any better, you always seemed way more mature than she did at the time. rofl
A lot of my friends are lawyers. Actually, I work with a lot of lawyers, too (I work in tax). It doesn't really seem like any of them chose an area of law to specialise in to start with - I think mostly it depended on where they got a job, basically! The bigger law firms sometimes had rotations, and my friends who work in smaller firms often have to do a bit of everything anyway. So you might not have to choose straight away. ^.^ You must have a couple of years until you graduate anyway? Or is law school only two years in Canada?
Are you planning to apply for clerkships?
I'm still living at home so in that respect you'll be more "grown up" than me. rofl

Thanks, Shells c: I seem to recall revealing my age to a group of you guys over IM one time and hearing a chorus of shocked gasps. Fun times haha.
The only reason I'm worried about specializing is that I have to start choosing my own course in year two. First year everyone takes the same basic classes: contracts, property, torts, constituional and criminal law. But in second year there are a ton of classes to choose from and the ones I choose can affect my eligibility for articling positions later on.
I assume a clerkship would be the australian equivalent to articling here in Canada? I do three years of classes, then a year as an 'articling student' before I'm allowed to write the bar exam and be licensed to practice. Basically I'll be research intern, doing all the boring work no one else in the firm wants any part of. But my eligibility for those positions depends on what classes I take. If i don't have the basic educational grounding in a certain then I can't effectively do the research, basically.

Funny that the US and Aus. have the same term while Canada doesn't. It sounds like making the choice is important, but I wouldn't stress too much. After the first year you'll probably have a better idea of what you like, or at least what you hate.

To be honest my current plan is of the throwing darts at the schedule variety. I certainly like some classes more than others thus far, but I'm fairly certain that has more to do with how interesting and engaging the prof is than anything else. My property law class is taught by Maichael Caine's long lost twin brother. In other words, its fantastic. But I'm pretty sure the actual subject is awful.

Congrats, Kitsy! surprised You could always find out locations of firms you'd want to work with, and make decisions based on back-tracking from there... but throwing darts is less work and more fun, I think.
Side note: you were totally not annoying at 13. I remember being one of the gasping people.

Oh, that's not what I meant, actually! Law graduates here also have to do an equivalent to their articles before being admitted, but by clerkship I meant internship or vacation work. In Australia, most of the law firms offer four to eight week positions over Summer and/or Winter, with the chance of being offered a graduate position at the end.
