 Liam tried to settle into a quiet evening in his dorm room but sitting inside twiddling his thumbs was not how he wanted to spend it. He had already finished all his homework, and didn't have any books he really wanted to read. Nor were any of his friends around.
He sighed heavily and flopped over on his stomach on his bed and peered around the room. It was rather annoying when it was so empty in here. he wondered where the other boys were. It's not like there was much for them to do, not with the evenings getting darker and longer due to the seasons changing. Not to mention it was drizzling outside again. Liam did not look forward to the foggy dull gray morning that was going to greet him tomorrow.
Liam turned over and was surprised to notice there was actually someone else in the dorm room with him. "Oh hello there." Liam said waving at the other boy. He squinted trying to make out the other's light.
He was sure he had seen him around before, though he really didn't have any sort of features that really stuck out. He had reddish brown hair with dark brown eyes, and what appeared to be a scar on the left side of his face. Liam wondered where he might have gotten that. He couldn't help but think it gave the other boy a roguish type look.
"I don't think we've met yet, " Liam said turning around to sit up on the edge of his bed. "I'm Liam. What's your name?"

Alex folded his arms, looking away before looking back at his roomate. He didn't know him very well, so he wasn't sure just how well he could trust him yet.
He shuffled his feet a little before looking back at the boy. He went move his lips to respond to the boy, only for his lips and throat to become dry. He closed his mouth and wet his lips with his tongue before he stammed out "Alex...Alexander"
He was glad that he finally got it out and now become a little more bold and thought of some questions to perhaps ask Liam.
"Liam," he started. He paused before he thought of something to say "Um, nice to meet you. Do... do you have friends back home?"
Alex realized how dumb he sounded and decided to turn the other way. He only hoped that Liam didn't notice.

Liam could tell by the other's body language that he wasn't comfortable with answering his question. Liam had never thought he'd meet someone who was more introverted than he was. Perhaps his hanging out with Destiny and Anya was changing him more than he thought.
Liam wait patiently as the other shuffled his feet and lick his lips. Liam smiled at the other boy. "Nice to meet you Alexander."
By the way Alex had stammered he had figured the other boy just wasn't up to talking all that much. He figured he could write a letter home since the other wasn't up to talking. He got up to start when the other said his name causing him to turn back.
"Yes Alex?" Liam asked.
It was an almost uncomfortable silence before the other finally spoke again.
"Well thanks Alex. Not really, I do have a sister and a brother that I'm pretty close with, they're attending Hogwarts as well. They're in different Houses though. Leo's in Gryffindor and Maer is a Ravenclaw. Do you have friends back home?" He asked over his shoulder as he riffled through his trunk looking for writing materials.
He pulled out a black ink pot and a quill and settled down on his bed to write a letter home and then turned to look at Alex to see if he was going to say anything else. He frowned when he saw the other kid had turned his back on him. Perhaps Alex just wasn't used to a lot of kids..and that was why he was acting this way.
"Do you write home to anyone?" Liam found himself asking. "I've got a younger brother Casius that I try to write to every other day or so."

Alex looked back up and toward Liam when he returned the conversation.
"It's just and me parents back home. I haven't got anyone else."
Just then Alex lingered thinking about his friends back at his regular school. They weren't much, but they were the only friends he really had, even if Alex wasn't even very social with them. Often, he just felt like a spare wheel in their games.
"I've got two friends from my old school, but they're rather ordinary, I don't think you'd want to know much about them.."
He then thought about Liam's last question, realizing that it was just his parent's he'd really write to, and with him just starting he hadn't a chance to really write to them yet.
"I haven't really written to anyone, yet at least. I write stories sometimes though. Sorry I'm not at talking," he aplogised.

Liam could imagine that it would be rather lonely not to have his siblings around to harrass him. Even though he often wished that he were an only child he was always glad that it wasn't so. He probably would have been even more introverted. He'd probably be a lot more like Alex.
"Ah, well be glad you don't have 8 brothers and a sister. It can be extremely crazy at times." Liam said with a slight grimace.
Liam pulled out a paper, smoothed it out on his desk and opened his ink bottle before Alex spoke again.
"Well ordinary isn't all that bad. Some muggle kids tend to have better imaginations than us kids with magic. What sort of games did you all play?"
Liam was interested in learning more about muggle activities and games as he had never gotten to play many of them. His parents always had too much on their hands to let their kids make a lot of friends outside the family. Plus they had chosen to not own a muggle vehicle so getting to an activity would have taken too much time and effort.
Liam quickly started his letter, still half listening for Alex. He just hoped the other didn't find it rude that he was doing two things at once. Some kids did get like that. Though this Alex didn't seem like the type to get angry about something like that.
"Oh well you have time to write them. I imagine they are wondering about you though. What type of stories?" Liam asked turning around in his seat to get a better look at Alex's face.
"No need to apologize, if you're not up for talking just say so." Liam replied with a sigh. "I just was getting bored waiting for lights out."

"8 brothers and sisters? That's a lot!" exclaimed Alex. "I don't know what I'd do with all those brothers and sisters." Alex sat and twiddled his thumbs at the thought. "That sounds really crazy to me"
Alex had to thnk a bit about Liam's next question. "Muggle games" Alex thought to himself. "Err, um, let's see, Solitaire. I don't know very many games," he admitted. "I mostly just play by myself."
Alex felt a litle lame not knowing many muggle games, nevermind knowing any magic sort. "Um, there's all sorts of..." His mind drifted off in thought.
"...All sorts of games and stuff, like um, checkers, and..." Alex felt a little foolish trying to act like he knew what he was talking about. His face turned flush and decided to answer Liam's question, something he could answer easily.
"I write all sorts of fantastic stories about dragons and princes and princesses, and all sorts of amazing things. Sometimes I write poetry, and whatever just comes to my head." He looked over at Liam "What are you writing right now?" He looked at the time noticing that Liam was right about it getting late. A yawn escaped his mouth as he thought about it. He cupped his hand over his mouth, trying not to be rude.

"Tell me about it. They're always way too noisy and in the way." Liam replied with a small snort. "Tis one of the reasons why I tend to go off by myself all the time. I need quiet places in order to think."
Liam was disappointed but didn't show it when he realized Alex didn't know any more muggle games than he did. It's not like it was something one should hold against another. He supposed he could always ask the muggle studies teacher and see if she knew more. "That's quite all right, I don't know that many either. I tend to play by myself as well. I don't really care for all the noise other kids make when they play. Perhaps we shall have to find a quiet game we both like and play together some time. soon." Liam found himself suggesting.
Liam could hear the passion in the other's voice when he began to speak about what he liked to write. Hmm..so there was a subject he was enthusiastic about. He would have to see if he could read some of his writing one day, that is if the other didn't mind. "Oh me? I'm writing to my little brother Casius. He's the last one at home and likes to get letters." Liam replied with a fond smile.
"It looks like I shall have to finish this up early tomorrow and then get it over to the owlery before breakfast in the morning." Liam commented as he put his writing materials away. He glanced over at the yawning Alex and then had a sudden thought.
"Perhaps you would like to join me? And then we can eat breakfast together?"

Alex smiled to himself. He could feel like Liam meant well and realized he was like him in a lot of ways.
"Sorry to hear that, it sounds like it would be frustrating." Alex said. "If I can think about it I'll try to teach you some muggle games if you like."
It was nice to think he was gainging a friend and he was looking forward to joining Liam for breakfast. He looked over at Liam and smiled big.
"Yes, I would like very much to join your for breakfast."
With that, Alex laid down to sleep, looking forward to the day in front of him.

"It can be at times. Other times they can be quite entertaining. Especially when the muddle things up." Liam said with a small smirk. "That would be most splendid! Though if you can't think of any I could always teach you Wizard's chess if you'd like. It's not a very quiet game but it is very entertaining."
Liam was glad to see that Alex was now smiling and was happy to hear that he wanted to join him for breakfast. "Then it's settled. If I wake up before you shall I shake you awake? If you end up rising earlier than me you can always shake me awake as well. I really don't want a late start in the morning if I can help it." Liam replied with a toss of his head.
He couldn't help but yawn again, this time much wider. "Well..time to turn in." He murmured more to himself than Alex, as his House mate was already laying down to sleep.
Liam rolled up his parchment loosely and then put away his writing materials away into his trunk. Then he hurriedly changed out of his clothes, laying his dirty ones inside the wardrobe on the floor where the House elves could find it. Once he was dressed in his warm flannel pajamas he dashed across the icy stone floor. It was so cold he could still feel it even with thick wool socks on. Once in bed, he arranged the blankets around him and then reached for his wand and sent a wind charm at the candle to put it out. The flame flickered out abruptly and he laid back into bed shivering slightly under the cold sheets and blankets.
A few moments later he fell into a deep untroubled sleep.
