Just where was that blond headed boy? She had been looking for the freckled blue eyed "Matty" for over an hour now and still hadn't found him.

Why was it boys tended to disappear so easily? Especially when one had something they wanted to give them or return to them? Aglaia sighed and threw her arms up in the air. "Well I guess he doesn't really care to get his homework assignment back!" She cried in annoyance.

She huffed and made her way down to the lake with an annoyed look on her face. "Why does he always have to leave his stuff laying around? I suppose he doesn't really care if someone steals his work and claims it as their own."

Aglaia came to a stop and blinked when she caught sight of the boy digging away at the sandy beach around the lake. Of all the things he could be doing..he was digging a hole? Aglaia shook her head and walked over to him with a scowl on her normally cheerful face.

"You might want to know that I "rescued" your homework from the other boys. You really should be more careful where you leave your papers Matt." Aglaia told him as severely as she could.

This was great! Ever since he had participated in the scavenger hunt that the Care of Magical Creatures professor had held, he had taken an interest in digging around the grounds when he could. It was interesting to see what he could find in the sand and the dirt; so far he had found a few neat rocks and a couple shells. Though he had lost one of the rocks he found and had ended up finding it in his shoe when he went to come outside today.

He pulled back from the current hole he was digging and looked to see if thee was anything interesting. All he saw was a tiny crab trying to burrow its way further down; he grinned and picked up the tiny creature, sitting it down so it could crawl towards the water instead.

He wiped his hands on his trousers that were already covered in more sand than was necessary. He stood up and turned to see one of the girls coming towards him with something in her hand. When she said she had rescued his homework, he gave a slightly goofy grin.

"Thanks! I've been looking for it everywhere!" he held out his sand encrusted hand to take the papers, "Where did you find it?"

Aglaia eyed the other boy's sand encrusted hands and then rolled the papers up neatly and stuck them into her coat's pocket. "Why don't I keep them were they'll stay clean. You don't want to get points off for dirty papers. Seems like the professors will take points off for anything." She murmured. "Oh I found them on one of the common room tables stuck under a library book." She added.

She eyed him closely and saw that he had been out here digging for quite awhile now. He looked almost like a sand man with how much sand he was covered with. She couldn't help but giggle when she thought of that.

"Well..looks like you've been busy. What are you looking for?" She asked glancing around at the various holes that had been dug.

Unlike most girls, Aglaia didn't mind getting dirty or doing things that boys liked to do. Mostly this was because she had been surrounded by more boys in her village in Ireland than girls. So she tended to prefer to run around, act wild, and get dirty over more girly activities.

"I'm not sure if you remember me or not, I'm Aglaia Halloran." She thrust her hand out to him in greeting. "You're Matthew Mason right?"

"Yep, that's me," Matty replied, grasping her hand in his sand encrusted one. "Thanks you finding that for me."

He had watched as she rolled up his homework neatly and tucked the sheets away. At least now he would know where to look for it instead of having to redo it...again...or get points knocked off. He had already had points taken off for attempting to hand in one of his assignments that had some how found its way into a mud puddle.

He noticed her looking at the holes and smiled. "I don't know. Anything really. So far I've found some pretty cool rocks and a crab." He would leave off the bit about misplacing one or two of the rocks he had found.

"Your welcome Matt." Aglaia replied with a smile. "One day we'll get you trained properly." she added with a small laugh.

It seemed that most boys were forgetful of their things, at least to her. She was constantly finding a number of lost or misplaced items that boys in her House or other houses were leaving around. Why was it that teaching them to pick up after themselves was left up to the girls? Really...as if the girls didn't have enough to do while in class. They had to teach the boys how to organize as well.

"Ah neat. Were you just digging for the sake of digging or looking for something special?" She couldn't help but ask.

"A Crab? Did you let it go already?" She looked around to see if he had stashed it somewhere close by. "I wonder how a sea creature would get into the Black Lake. Maybe there's an inlet underneath that leads out to the sea?" She wondered aloud.

Matty laughed at her comment, "Sure, sure," he told her, wiping his hands on his trousers.

He shrugged when she asked him why he had been digging, "I don't know. Just seemed like fun."

His eyes lit up when she asked him about the crab, "Yeah, it didn't seem right to keep him," he answered, glancing back down to be sure the crab had found its way somewhere, "Maybe," he shrugged again, "anyway it was just one. It could have gotten lost and found its way here."

Aglaia was glad that Matt could laugh, most boys got annoyed when they were told they needed to be trained like a dog. She grinned back at him and then eyed the holes in the ground.

"Digging can be fun, especially if you find some really cool stuff." She agreed. "Do you mind if I join you?"

Aglaia nodded when he answered her about the crab. She actually caught sight of the crab about five feet away wandering down the lake's shoreline. Poor thing wouldn't last long on land. She frowned and then dashed over to pick up the crab and walked back to where Matt was standing.

"It could have gotten lost. We should see if we can find a way to get him to the ocean. If we put him back in the lake he'll probably get eaten by something living in there. If he kept wandering around a bird or some forest creature might have gotten him. I wonder if the games keeper would be interested in getting him back to the ocean. Want to go with me and ask?"

"Yeah, it is," he agreed with her about digging, "So far I've manged to find a couple neat looking rocks and the crab. That's it."

He went back to look for a decent spot to try next when she came back over with the crab in her hands. He could have guaranteed he had seen it go in the water but let that go; after all he always thought he did a lot of things.

"Sure!" he replied, "we could try. Even if the games keeper can't get him back, he'll, at least, be safe there."

Aglaia shot a look at Matt. Hadn't he just said the same thing earlier? She grinned and shook her head. "Well since you've said that twice now I really do insist you show me those rocks. They must look pretty awesome for you to repeat it again."

Aglai noticed he looked a bit startled to see the crab in her hands. Perhaps he had thought he had seen it somewhere else not that long ago.

Aglai nodded. "True, he could be in the middle of something else. He is quite busy after all. What with caring for the thestrals and the other animals that we have to study during the school year."

Aglaia made her way cautiously around the holes in the sand and picked up her cloak and pulled it over one shoulder while holding the crab close to her body. It was a bit strange that the crab hadn't yet tried to pinch her or try to get away. Perhaps it knew she was trying to help it get home.

"We should name the crab. Have any ideas?" She asked turning to Matt.

A deep blush came over Matty's cheeks when she commented that he had repeated himself. He hadn't meant to but he had forgotten he had already told her about the rocks. "Sorry," he murmured quietly and looked at the crab again.

"Yeah. At least a crab probably wouldn't be too much trouble for him to take care of, if he can't get it to the ocean right away."

When she asked what they should name the crab and if he had ideas, the blush deepened as he recalled a cartoon he had watched back at home. It wasn't really his thing, but his mom had made him watch it.

"Maybe Sebastian?"

Aglaia felt bad for causing Matt to get embarrassed. She wanted to reach out and pat him on the shoulder, but her hands were all full. Instead she shot him an apologetic look.

"I didn't mean to embarrass you. You obviously had other things on your mind and had forgotten you already said that. Don't worry about it too much. I just seem to pick up on that kind of stuff." She said.

"That's true. Even if he can't take care of it, I suppose it would be easy enough for you or I to take care of it for him."

She rather liked the idea of having a pet crab. She wondered how her cat Neasa would like that. At least the fiendish cat wouldn't be able to hurt a crab that much. Also if the terror did try to hurt the crab it would be able to defend itself well enough.

Aglaia noticed Matt blushing yet again. What was it this time? How could that question embarrass him so much? Aglaia shook her head in annoyance as the two of them made their way up to the Hogwarts' grounds.

She was surprised by his suggestion and mused over it for a moment before she said anything.
"Well if it's a boy that would be a perfect name. If it's a girl I guess we could call it something else."
PostPosted: Thu Dec 06, 2012 12:51 pm

"It's okay," he said, shuffling his feet, "I forget stuff a lot. Like my homework," he grinned slightly when he remembered why she had originally come to find him.

A slight bit a panic came over him when she mentioned that one of them would take care of the crab, "If he can't, he might be better of with you." Who knows what would happen if he had a pet crab and forgot about it? It could get lost or stepped on or he could forget to feed it...he didn't need a pet.

He blushed again when she said that his suggestion would be perfect if the crab was a boy, "Maybe if it's a girl, name it Ariel?"

Aglaia couldn't help but grin back at him. "Well I shall have to help you with your memory problems. I'm sure it won't take too much work, I hope."

Aglaia couldn't help but wonder why he had that panicked look on his face. Was he afraid that he might hurt the crab? Or forget to feed it? Well..she could remind him if he forgot. It's not like she'd completely make it all his job. "I could do that. Though if you want to help that might be nice."

Aglaia scrunched up her mouth trying to remember where she had heard those names before. "Are those names from a muggle movie? I think I saw that a long time ago. It's got a mermaid in it and a crab right?"

PostPosted: Thu Dec 06, 2012 1:29 pm

The boy giggled just a bit at the mention of her helping him with his memory problems; he didn't think there was anything that could fix that. "I don't know about that but we'll see."

He shrugged it off when she said his help with the crab would be nice, "We'll see about that, too."

The blush came back in full force when it seemed she had recognized, slightly, where he had gotten the names he picked out for the crab. "Yeah, it's a girls' cartoon movie. I didn't wanna watch it but my mom made me," he said quickly, almost as if he was ashamed of the fact that he had seen the movie.

Aglaia frowned for a moment and tried to think back to something she had read in one of her school books. "I believe there is a potion that's supposed to help with improving memory. Maybe we should see if we can get some for you. We might as well try. Even a little improvement would be better than you are now."

Aglaia had finally figured out why he was reluctant to help with the crab. He had probably never had a pet in his life and didn't want to harm it. She could understand that reasoning.

Aglaia couldn't help but grin at the rosy blush that appeared on Matty's face. It made him look rather adorable. Sure he might have big front teeth, freckly, and be covered in sand, but gosh when he blushed he looked like a ruddy angel.

"Ah, I can understand. Some mothers just don't like their boys to grow up." She replied giving him a knowing glance. "Father's are the same way with their daughters."
