First off, congrats! Secondly - don’t panic at the rush of doing things for a new faction. The initial start up can be a bit confusing, but hopefully this guide will help answer some questions that are otherwise not stated.
Step One: Waking Up
I need my hunter to wake up! How does that work?
It works in one of several ways. Depending on how large the ‘batch’ of new hunters are, usually either your new hunter will be assisted by an NPC, or, by fellow PCs in the Dark Cove.
Admin NPCs tend to appear in groups of 4 or more, such as after a round of hunter customs or after certain events. PCs might accompany the Admin NPC to help answer IC questions and aid in your hunter’s first few steps in Deus Ex Machina. PCs can be requested by contacting the admin who is in charge BEFORE your hunter awakens. Often Zoobey or Lizbot take care of the larger batch awakenings, and it’s also perfectly alright to ask your friend who owns the PC to contact the admins.
In the cases of small batches, or singular hunters, you have a few options, and usually after a time, an admin will begin/prompt the awakening for you. BUT, you can also ask that with a smaller batch that it be a purely PC wake up, done with either friends or strangers to happen in less time. Like the larger group awakenings, PCs can be requested, or, a PC might be asked to do this. The purely PC awakening does much the same as the NPC aided one, if in a less formal and trained manner more often than not.
The final option is soloing the wake up and writing a generic NPC wake up. For more info, see page 25 of the Dark Cove!
In a general sense, your awakening should happen in a week, either by NCP aid, or by PC aid. If longer it might be due to approvals/enrolls. If you want to get a jump on it for an event, contact an Admin to see what can be done! All awakenings will need to have the hunter enrolled, and have been cleared by an admin to take place.
What do hunters remember about testing?
Right out of the pod, not much. Vague snapshots of memories, but as times moves on, the more a hunter can recall. You DO have the option of full recollection of the testing, but things like PTSD or a general not wanting to think it true can block certain parts of your hunter’s memory. In general, the testing memories may have a dream-like quality unless you wish it otherwise. The entirety of testing memories are archived at a high clearance, so even if you choose to have them forget for now, you can always have them gain more total recall later as part of a plot.
What will my hunter know/be introduced to after waking up? What general knowledge will they have?
Anything in this thread is considered 'known' by all trainees. It is expected that the PC who wakes them up will give them this info, or a life tech from the pod room will if done by NPC. They get this info after they have been taken to the cove to get their weapon.
Here is the Newbie Pamphlet they should be given upon waking, in addition to information they'd gain by attending a (handwaved) orientation.
Step Two: Getting Your Weapon
So I read we need to do a weapon solo, what is that and how does that work? Do we have to make one before we start RPing?
When hunters were first introduced, a weapon solo, or the solo where your hunter and weapon ‘find’ each other, (see the cove for more details), it was considered mandatory for players to post a weapon solo before they could RP. However, as hunters have become more open to players you are not required to post your weapon solo before you RP in things like the case of metas and events. But, you do still need to make a weapon solo. Preferably the sooner the better.
THE WEAPON SOLO IS STILL MANDATORY FOR HUNTER PLAYERS. Without one, you can't take part of training, spars, or the like.
A weapon solo is considered the pivotal moment your hunter becomes a trainee and bonds with their weapon, and it plays a key role in terms of what makes the hunter faction what they are. So as a general rule of thumb, you don’t need a weapon solo right out the gate, but getting it up as soon as possible is ideal if you plan to RP your hunter.
Step Three: Getting Your Coat
When and How do I get my division Coat?
When your tour is done you're lead back to the dorms, (and your room which ICly you don't get to chose. OoCly you do. When picking a room number, make sure there is not overlap!). In your dorm on your bed will be the clean, pressed, new trainee coat along with your scarf. Congrats! You are now considered a hunter- for better, or for worse.
