The autumn leaves, brilliant in their preparation for winter, rustled and danced in early evening breeze, fluttering here and there before settling on the forest floor where they would wither and decay and join with the earth to nourish the new life that would be born in the spring. Despite its beauty, the elegant doe making her way through the wood had an unfortunate tendency to become melancholy during that time of year. It was unfortunate primarily because Sumerki positively loathed anything resembling self-pity, and melancholia certainly qualified. She could only tolerate so much of it before she became annoyed with herself and sought out new sights and people. So here she was, in a part of the vast and ancient Wardwood that she had never trod upon before, looking for... something.

Golden eyes turned up toward the sky, the doe laid in silence in a patch of grass. She wasn't having any problems, no, but merely wondered if the stars had any guidance for her. Things had been fairly quiet as of late, almost boring. Was there nothing planned for her? Surely the stars could help?
Alcyone's attention was drawn away from the sky when a moth landed on her hoof, and she looked down at it with amusement. They'd always been drawn to her, especially at night, but it was barely even dark yet. Dipping her head to nose at it, she was a bit surprised when it fluttered quite erratically away, brushing against her cheek in the process. The stone around her neck glowed just enough to cast a shadow on the grass in front of her, and she watched it as the little creature flew away.
A sudden crack of a branch made her freeze, ears perking up tall and swiveling toward the source of the sound. She wasn't in the open in a clearing or anything, but she didn't exactly blend in with the forest floor. It could be any number of things in this forest, from a harmless rabbit to a deadly predator. Would she need to run? The muscles in her legs twitched anxiously, stretched taut with preparation.

When she rounded a particularly dense bit of brush, Sumerki was surprised to find herself nearly face-to-face with another doe. She had neither heard nor scented the other female. Of course, there wasn't much to hear if the doe had been lying there for a time, as the matted grass seemed to indicate, and the wind was going the wrong way for her to have scented anything. Still, it displeased her that she had stumbled into another unaware. That was a dangerous thing to do.
Taking a closer look at the doe, Sumerki almost felt as though she ought to recognize her, even though she was certain she had never met her before. How odd. Why would she feel such a connection? She swatted the thought away. It was ridiculous. Probably nothing more than her surprised mind playing tricks on her.
"Good evening," she said at last. If nothing else, she at least had her manners.

Almost as soon as she was about to get to her feet, Alcyone picked up the slightest scent of a fellow guardian. Sure enough, a doe stepped around a large bush a few feet away mere moments later, filling Alcyone with a sense of relief. It wouldn't have been terrible if a buck had appeared instead, but bucks can sometimes be slightly territorial, and she had simply found a nice spot to lay for a while, not having paid attention to any scents. Alcyone slowly relaxed, rising to her hooves gracefully and dipping her head in greeting.
"Yes, good evening," she parroted, tilting her head to the side as she regarded the other doe. The gradiented pelt reminded her of her own, but it was different enough to leave only a slight sense of recognition that Alcyone wasn't sure about. She couldn't recall ever seeing this doe before, and certainly did not know her name, so why did she feel this sense of familiarity with her? Her pale ears swiveled back slightly as she looked at the doe, her tail twitching. "I apologize if I startled you; you looked a little unnerved just now." She offered a soft smile as an attempt to reassure the other doe that she meant no harm.

She had most certainly not looked unnerved, thank you very much, she sniffed. "Not at all," she demurred. "For a moment, I thought you were someone I knew." That was all. Nothing unusual about that. Nothing at all. "I do apologize for intruding. Is this your territory?" She had not thought she had crossed any borders, but one could never say for certain. Cynnybun I do apologize for the brevity. I'm a bit rusty on deer RP.
