Vastus♦

Nick Names: N/A
Alias: The Dark One
Alliance: Neutral
Race: Void-Lord

❧Physical Characteristics
Age: Time doesn't exist, in the Void.
Hair: Black
Eyes: Purple
Skin Tone: Blacker than black. Think obsidian, but without the reflective properties. His face and hands are a greyish color, strangely.
Ethnicity: He doesn't really fall into any ethnic categories very well.
Scars, Birthmarks, Tattoos: Even if he had them, you wouldn't be able to see them.
Height: Varies depending on shape
Weight: Varies depending on shape
Marital Status: Single
Physical Structure: Skinny-ish
Orientation: Straight

❧Personal Info
❖Transcripts:
Alignment: Neutral Evil, leaning towards Chaotic Evil
Criminal Record: N/A
Level of Education: The whispers of the Void are the only teacher one ever needs.
If Collegial:
Current Occupation: Restoring the balance of existence.
Past Occupations: Minding his own business in the Void.
Family: N/A
Lovers, Friends, and Others: N/A

❖Personal:
Personality: Vastus' personality can be summed up in three words. Cold. Calculating. Efficient. He has one goal in mind, and that is to keep all of existence from coming to an end. To achieve this goal, no cost is too high, no sacrifice is too great, and everyone is expendable. If you go against what he says, don't expect a happy ending.
People Skills: Nonexistent. He's never dealt with other living things at all, and he hadn't planned on improving his social standing. If you're not with him, you're in his way. And that can't be allowed.
Goals: Restore the balance before all of existence crashes into the Void.
Fears: The destruction of everything in existence and the Void.
Favorites: How can one favor anything over the sweet embrace of emptiness?.
Role Model: In the Void, there is nothing to model yourself after.
Catch Phrase/Motto: (Complete silence)

❧Skills,Abilities, and Powers
Skills:
No real relevant skills...
Abilities:
An innate ability to warp in-space, the Void itself. This allows for instantaneous travel between the Void and conventional existence. While in the Void, he can still see into existence... This can allow for an effect almost akin to teleportation, although it isn't always instantaneous. While in the Void, he is replenished and healed.
Powers:
Voidal Manipulation- Vastus can reach into the Void and bring forth the latent energies within- the most primal forms of darkness and dark magic- to create constructs on a whim, form lethal shadow attacks or bolts and flames of pure darkness, and disintegrate inorganic matter.

Shapeshifting- Vastus' form is hardly sealed to one shape. Being one with the Void itself, he can take on whatever shape he wishes.

Intangibility- he can become intangible, for a short time. While intangible, he is physically incapable of interacting with the world.

Telepathic Block- anyone so unfortunate as to attempt to read Vastus' mind will be driven to madness, or even a coma; this is the price for daring to look into the Void.

Immortality- as he is not truly alive, he cannot be killed through conventional means, nor will he age physically. Destroying his physical body would banish him to the Void, but it is unknown whether or not this would be a permanent solution; the spatial instability caused by the upcoming war- and a few particular temporal rifts- has sufficiently weakened the dimensional walls to allow easy-access between this realm and the Void, as soon as he returns to full strength.

Weaknesses:
Energy-based attacks. Magical energy is the exception, as it is related to the Void; light is one of the purest forms of energy, and thus light-based attacks will harm him. Thermal and electrical energy can harm him as well, but light is the most effective. This isn't to say magical energy will not harm him; their effectiveness is simply dampened somewhat. While he is immune to darkness and dark-related magical attacks, other attacks will cause sufficient damage, and light-based magical attacks will be almost as detrimental to him as natural light-based attacks.

Magical artifacts of sufficient power can also prove damaging to his physical form.

While outside of the Void, Vastus declines in power and health; he must return to the Void every so often in order to replenish his strength.

Technology/Weapons/Pharpenilia:
An ornate black staff, made of an unknown material; perhaps, like Vastus, of the Void itself.

History
To understand Vastus fully, you must have a basic grasp on the concept of the Void. All the realms that exist in an infinite space, some as self-contained bubbles and some as infinitely expanding planes, some overlapping in space and time- the Void is the space between these dimensions, the 'cushion' space where nothing exists. It permeates all existence in the form of the in-space; the space between the components of atoms. Ergo, the Void isn't just the space between universes; it is the space of nothingness within universes, as well. It is the absence of everything. The Void is not, however, just an area or space. The Void is a sentient force, the structure of existence itself; it is fully aware of the finer details and interactions of forces between universes, and as such constantly works to maintain and uphold the fragile balance of the universe. As of yet, nothing has sufficiently threatened to cause the entirety of existence to collapse in on the Void... But with the war closing in, that has changed.

Vastus is, for all intents and purposes, a physical incarnation of the Void itself. Ergo, he's been around as long as the Void has, which is pretty much since the beginning of everything. However, since the Void is basically the absence of everything, he has never had a need to truly exist in a physical form. Now, however, with the upcoming war threatening to rend asunder the very fabric of existence and end everything- even the Void- Vastus has become real, and has been sent to avoid the imminent destruction of existence as we know it. And he will stop this by any means necessary. While even he doesn't truly know the exact actions that will cause the destruction of everything, he knows that it will happen at the climax of this war, should it be allowed to continue on the path it's headed; thus, Vastus has decided to become directly involved in the war in a desperate effort to avoid the eradication of everything.

Hmm. So, he's basically the Nekron of the guild... Interesting.

However Trace, you've got to remember that pretty much EVERY character in the guild is connected to magic in some way, and if magic can't harm him, then that makes him pretty much unbeatable in a fight. I recommend including magic as one of his weaknesses for the sake of balance. Plus, since the Void is "the absence of everything", how exactly is it connected to magic? Did all magic somehow come from this dimension, and if so why?

If he's a shapeshifter, and thus, as you said, "hardly sealed to one shape", then his height and weight could pretty much be whatever he chooses; make sure you make note of that.

Also, if he's connected to the Void-- And therefore the absence of everything-- Then he isn't connected to death so much as the absence of life itself; this rule applied to Nekron in DC Comics, who is the closest comparison I can make to this guy at the moment. As a result, magical artifacts, such as either version of Excalibur or other enchanted weapons, should also be able to feasibly cause him pain-- Again for the sake of balance.

Matter manipulation... We went over this with Lucien with his Chaos God character; that's something of a no-no because it could be used and abused easily. Obviously you wouldn't abuse such a power, but for the sake of consistency I think you should either remove that or tone it down considerably. He should probably also have a possible limit on how much power he can use outside the Void before having to go back, due to him being directly connected to it and thus likely needing to be in the Void for sustenance.

Also, according to his very nature (and again using Nekron as an example) he has always existed-- As the Void itself before being "created". It's only just now that he's taken a physical form, is what you probably meant.

Okay, that's all I've got for now. If Leo or Twi notice something I didn't, they should speak up.

Alrighty, edited stuff. Pretty much everything you said, I'd already meant to do... But I did this pretty late last night, and while my brain knew what it was doing (more or less), that doesn't necessarily mean my fingers got the memo, y'know?

As far as the matter manipulation went, I meant inorganic matter. Then I realized how little sense this made- why would someone from the space between dimensions- where nothing exists naturally- have control over matter? So I scratched that, and gave him darkness powers instead. Because darkness, being the absence of light, would be the only naturally occurring phenomena in the Void...

Anyway. It's been edited and prettied up. Hopefully that'll be good enough. And yeah, this is a spin-off of the Personification of Death character I wanted to do... I figured that'd be a bit cliche, having a Grim-Reaper dude running around. So I went with this guy, instead. Hopefully he's acceptable.

Though I know very little about the DC Comics Universe, I have to admit, Trace... this profile doesn't look very thought out. It seems pretty rushed, actually.

A. You know the main thing I look for in a character is their History. Usually, your profiles have a one to two page history, but this... is surprisingly short. I mean, I know it's not much considering he's basically the Void itself, but still, there's gotta be more to his life- or whatever you could call his life- than just that. Then again, I could be wrong.

B. Vastus was sent to avoid the imminent destruction of existence? By whom? How could he have been sent by someone if he's the absence of existence? Plus, if he's Evil, whether Neutral or Chaotic, wouldn't he be more inclined to destroying life as opposed to preventing it from falling apart? An Evil character that is the embodiment of nothingness aiming to prevent the end of existence sounds a bit contradictory. It's like saying Demise from Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword wanted the Triforce so he could prevent the people of Hyrule and/or Skyloft from taking it for their own evil desires.

Oncaro pretty much covered everything, and I had trouble trying to figure out what didn't work. There might have been something else I missed, but this is what I've got so far.

And it's understandable... my brain doesn't function well at all during the late nights when I'm busy working on a new character. XD

He's not evil because of his goals, he's evil because of the ways he's willing to go about bringing them to fruition. All he cares about, really, is making sure the Void remains intact- if all of existence is destroyed, the Void is gone too. The Void isn't really its own realm, per say- it's the space between realms, the nothingness you have to cross through to get from one universe to another. If all the universes are destroyed, the Void would be gone, too- and since he IS the Void, he can't let that happen. He's evil because he'll kill just about everything that stands between him and surviving. He doesn't want to stop existing; so he's technically not working towards an evil goal, he's going about it through evil means. That's what makes him evil.

As far as the history goes... I could have typed "and then nothing happened to nothing, which magically exploded into more nothing," about twenty thousand times. But literally, he's never physically existed until I bring him into the roleplay... So he doesn't have a history. I know that's kind of a cheap cop-out, but I couldn't really think of a way around it. I could update it as the story arc continues, but I was really only going to keep him around for as long as the war went on. As soon as it was over, he'd no longer have a need to physically exist. The only real reason he's a Main is only because he's going to be forcing himself into heavy involvement with the war.
