As Santiel was lead away from her mother, away from her herd and the only lands she had ever known, each hoofstep sent her deeper into the unknown.
The strange dark stallion never looked back, never even spoke a word as he led the way through thick trees. Purple hoofprints lingered behind the demonic stallion, glowing brightly in the shade to slowly fade away to nothing, making an obvious path for her to follow.
The slender mare sidled up to his side, her barbed tail occasionally flicking across his cannons or wrapping, briefly, into his trailing tail. Her glowing blue eyes were on him, but unlike the smoldering stallion, she would occasionally look back with eyes full of mischief and malice, looking to Santiel much as a cat would look to a mouse. There was disdain in those eyes, an annoyed sigh, but a look that spoke volumes - that she would find a way to make this interesting to her as well.
But if retret ever crossed Santiel's mind, the massive bear followed not two strides behind Santiel, covering her delicate hoofprints with his massive clawed tracks. She could feel his hot breath on her flanks, the ever-present growl in his throat as he drove her onwards, making certain that she didn't slow down or else risking him running into her, pushing her forward.
The lush jungles grew damper, cloying. High peaks of mountains could occasionally be seen through the spaces between the trees - dizzyingly high and capped with snow even now. There was an eerieness to these woods that was difficult to place.
And only then did the dark stallion stop. He just stood there for a moment, smelling the air.

Trapped. There was nothing Santiel could do, ever since stepping forward and questioning her two captors, three if you included the bear, Santiel had been doomed. It had been long since she last saw her mother and sister, and she feared it'd be some time before the stallion would keep his part of the bargain and allow her to return to her home, but there seemed to be something more to this arrangement than first meet the eye. Her thoughts wandered and her tiny body began to ache, she was not use to so much strain, and she found it hard to keep up. She noted the purple hoof marks the stallion left scarred upon the ground, slowly losing their eerie light as she dropped further back.
Hot breath on her flanks, and a threatening rumble of growl akin to distant thunder, reminded her of the mammoth sized bear who prowled behind her. She leapt two paces forwards at a quick trot, closing the distance she'd just created. As if signalled by the bears growl the mare flicked her eyes back to stare at Santiel. Santiel danced her own eyes across the blue orbs of the mare's but those fleeting glances noted a taint that caused Santiel so much horror she couldn't bear it any longer, and focused back down upon the glowing hoof prints of Warlock. Out of the trio he was the one she preferred to be in company of, but even so, given the chance she'd rather be anywhere but in the company of any of them, and a million miles away from here.

The bear whuffled a chuckle as she darted ahead, nearly running into the dark stallion who had come to a stop. "We're nearly home, my dear," Warlock rumbled with a voice that was almost made more eerie by its silken baritone. "Your home now."
The woods were humid, dark and they were miles through twisted paths that had led her far from the home she had known.
Warlock turned to face Santiel fully, his expression deadly serious.
"You will stay here... study... train. Most soquili could only wish themselves to be granted such priviledge." Warlock continued, "But this does not come without a price. Your loyalty will be to ME now. You will do as I say. You are bonded to me by pledge and debt. And words hold power my dear." He smiled, revealing wicked fangs.
"Leave here without my permission and you will find your strength sapping. Growing weaker... and weaker...." He spoke slowly, methodically, his voice ensnaring her.
"... Until you can go no further."
He turned quickly, continuing to walk the rest of the way. "And remember... your mother left you to me." Disnia clung to Warlock's side, smiling as he intimidated the little filly. She supposed it might be interesting to see if her philter darkened the filly's heart, or perhaps even brought out the potential in her blood that her mother had squandered. And if not, she would MAKE it interesting.
With a seductive n** at Warlock's neck, she trotted off, to go see who might be lurking in their territory.

The stallion stopped and Santiel nearly bounded right into his hind legs as she was trying to get away from the hot bear breath on her flanks. Her eyes widened in fright at being so close to him and she scuttled back a few paces to give herself some breathing space, then span quickly to look behind her, ensuring there was a significant gap between her and the bear also. Not enough as she would of hoped for, as the damned creature like to ensure she stayed close to his master. Her thoughts and occupation of trying to regain some sense of personal space was drawn to a close when her attentions were slowly drawn into the stallion and his words, until her full focus was on him and every syllable that left his lips. Stressed, key words stuck in her head and after he'd finished she was left in no doubt of his statement that words held power was true, as his certainly weren't one's she'd forget any time soon.
As he turned away and began the procession onwards deeper into these lands which were so strange to her, he didn't look over his shoulder, simply allowed his poisonous words to float over his body to fall upon her ears... Santiel's eyes widened in alarm and disbelief, mixed feelings flooded her; she wanted to cry out and run away, she wanted to break down and sob, but neither feeling was actioned instead she buried her emotions down, a single tear formed but with a twist and a slight flick of her head it was gone. She felt the bear coming up from behind and she leapt into action once more and followed her... teacher and his despicable pet. Her eyes dropped down to note the purple hoof mark trail once again, when the sound of mare turning off the path caused her eye level to rise and catch her leaving the dark stallion's side. Santiel watched her go, and whilst she had a deep rooted fear of the mare, she feared her more when she didn't know where she was or what she was doing. Sanitel's wings began to flutter.

Warlock watched the young filly carefully. He saw the belief in her eyes, and that - right there - was half of it. He knew dark magic, and that could do some amazing things, but securing that seed of fear and belief could be almost as powerful. And of course, speaking without any falter in his confidence.
He left her for a moment, shuddering in the silence that hung after his pronouncement, making her wait, anticipate what would happen next before he finally formed words once more.
"Serve me and do as I say and I shall spare your life. BUt if you are useless to me as a pupil, then I will find another use for you. Your heart will be made as offering to Kalona. I am certain that one such as you would be seen as a great sacrifice." He pronounced in no uncertain terms.

Santiel's eyes were fixed upon the group of trees the mare had disappeared into, her wings fluttering nervously, though when Warlock addressed her again her eyes switched to stare up at his flank, but she felt him watching her, those eyes upon her body were an unmistakable feeling and almost daring herself she lifted her gaze up slightly higher; his neck was twisted, her wings fluttered a little faster and with a quick flutter of her eye lids she raised her gaze just that little more to catch the glowing purple orbs of Warlock. Those eyes are unmistakable, they could belong to none other than him, they oozed a soft pale light that simply wasn't natural and Santiel couldn't bare to hold that gaze for more than a heart beat. As soon as her focus was upon that eerie purple light they omitted she quickly dropped her gaze to stare at the floor, her wings fluttering madly upon her back. He confirmed something seeded in her soul that ultimately if she didn't prove to be useful she'd end up dead.
Her wings stopped their mad fluttering and she stared hard at the ground. There was nothing she could do but follow this dark stallion's bidding, there was no glimmer of hope she could escape this deal he'd made with her mother and not only did she fear for her life, she feared the lives of her loved one's. She must prove useful, she needed to get through this at whatever cost and she was prepared to do her up-most to please him, not with a desire to satisfy him to gain his affections like that mare whom always followed him, but through necessity, to protect her own life and her families. She steeled herself and though still not being able to meet his gaze, she stared at his throat and asked in a meek voice, 'You require me as a pupil, but what is it you expect from me?'. The question didn't come easily, she felt she shouldn't question him and just follow, but then perhaps he'd prefer her to demonstrate a little strength of character, she didn't truly know, but part of her needed an answer to certain questions.

junglerunner SO sorry this took so long. I think it got lost in the christmas shuffle and then I forgot it was actually my tag. For a moment, it seemed like there was a ghost of a smile on Warlock's muzzle as she spoke up, without the stutter that punctuated the words of her mother. Perhaps her heart was stronger. Perhaps this one - even so young - showed some promise. Maybe the angeni blood that flowed in her mother was stronger here, or perhaps Disnia's philter had left a touch of something else in the foals that it had borne.
"YOu will learn my ways. If you take to your studies, then you will be stronger than your mother. These will be gifts that I impart to you. You should be thankful of my attention." He paused for a moment, letting hope blossom.
"But no gift is free. Not really. In order for me to teach you, and to abide by your presence and not find another use for you, you must teach ME as well. Prove yourself to me, and I might allow you to visit your family, to learn from them... study the shamanic ways. And bring these teachings to me. Most of my kind are shortsighted and only see the purpose of the dark arts. But magic is a spectrum, and something can be learned from all paths."
Warlock's tail swept the forest floor behind him with a whisking noise as he was pointedly straightforward with the filly in his care. But this was no secret. If she bore this mote of hope, she would focus. It would give her enough strength to proceed.
His ears pricked and he raised his head as the sound of approaching hoofbeats, muffled against the soft earth, began to draw back to them.

Sabin Duvert Now it's my turn to say sorry! RL has been kinda busy at present! Santiel continued to stare at his throat as he responded with little hesitation to her question, she dare not look up to his eyes again for fear of losing her composure. She considered his words; 'stronger than your mother' these words puzzled her, her mother wasn't strong in any sense of the imagination, becoming stronger would be considered an easy task by many, which made her wonder if her mother had studied under Warlock too, for how long and when? There was a bond between Warlock and her mother, otherwise she herself would not be here now, though from the meeting with Warlock and her mother Santiel took away little information. As for learning his ways, well that seemed to be the only way out of this... but after a pause he continued.
As she spoke Santiel's eyes grew wider and her wings started to flutter once again, she blurted out her thoughts before she could stop herself, 'Malis won't teach me the Shamanic ways if she knows I am passing it on to you! Malis knows everything, even if mother hasn't told her of all this, Malis will know!' Santiel stared at the floor and bit her tongue, her wings were now shock still and she waited for the reprimand from Warlock. Even if Santiel wanted to please Warlock simply to save herself and her family, if she did everything to learn his ways, there was no way Malis would pass on her secrets to Santiel to hand them over so freely to Warlock. But before Warlock could answer her the sound of hoof beats reached their ears, she grimaced, knowing Disnia would no doubt be returning to Warlock's side, she'd not stand for Santiel to converse with Warlock as she just had and Santiel had no desire to antagonise the mare. She backed down the path a few steps, away from Warlock, her eyes still on the ground, her wings fluttering ever so slightly.

Warlock's ears flattened and he snapped at Santiel, his teeth clacking loudly shut just a few inches from the filly's face. "Do NOT speak back to me, little filly. You are alive because I allow it. IF you are prone to give up before attempting a task just because it is difficult then perhaps you ARE Of no use to me beyond a sacrifice." He snorted derisively, violet light flashing in his eyes and nostrils.
"Your first lesson, little filly, is that you have to FIGHT for power. You have to not just want it, but NEED it. I clawed my way to where I am now and did NOT just sit by and take what I was given in life. I took my power. And so must you." He held her gaze for a fe moments, the force of his ire nearly a physical force before an ear flicked and he reigned things in just a bit.
"You are already their family. You must prove that you are clever. You do not know what Malis has been told by your mother. They will not know the situation of your return. Or even that it is temporary. But I cannot do all your thinking FOR you, filly."
Warlock stopped talking, his ears swiveling forward as he looked once more to the trees as crunching in the underbrush was heard once more. Disnia returned to the two with an almost feline grace to her step, paired with the suspicious, disdainful expression as she looked over the little filly once more. However, she was not alone. Following in her hoofsteps was another kalona - this one larger than the mare, and a stallion, but not quite with the same presence as Warlock.
The second stallion moved forward to overtake Disnia, not giving the mare a second glance as his ears canted forward curiously. "Who's this tidbit?" He asked with a lazy grin, and eyes that lingered just a bit too long. "Dinner...? Or a plaything? Or both!" His voice wasn't nearly as deep as Warlock's either. THere was a casualness to it, a devil-may-care, irrevarant manner that immediately set Warlock's ears back. "Dareth. This is our new pupil, Santiel." Warlock corrected his son with a note of irritation. "You are to keep an eye on her as well. Make sure she stays to her studies and doesn't try anything foolish." A look of disappointment crossed Dareth's face as he gave an obvious sigh. "Well.." he moved forward, nipping at her wings. "Hopefully she'll be more entertaining than the last one at least."

Santiel was staring at the ground so she didn't note the flatting of Warlocks ears, however she did catch the loud clacking noise as Warlock snapped his jaw shut not far from her face, she stood her ground, but only just and her wings fluttered madly. She understood all his words and appreciated everything he had to say, in any other context she'd find them fitting, but not in this case, for what she had to do to please him was not something she personally wanted to be doing or learning. She'd not be fighting for power, she didn't want it, but she did need it for the sake of her life and her families. Warlock was right, Santiel was part of their family, and because of that she knew them better than him. She knew even if her mother hadn't told Malis anything of this, Malis would be able to read her mother like a book, she just had that way. Also the skills Warlock wanted her to learn from Malis was from the teachings of the spirits, and the spirits saw everything, and the spirits spoke to Malis... Malis would know, one way or another and she wondered how she'd get around that.
Before she could ponder the problem any longer, in search of an answer, Disnia came into view and she wasn't alone. She felt Disnia's eyes upon her, her skin crept and she fought off the urge to run. Besides her came another stallion, larger than herself though slightly smaller in stature than Warlock and holding none of his presence. She noted the way in which he past Disnia, giving her little to no thought and focused on her. Santiel met his gaze for a moment his eyes weren't deep oozing purple like Warlocks but lilac, there was something to him which reminded her of Warlock. His grin disturbed her and she couldn't hold his gaze any longer, she nervously transferred her gaze downwards though took in the rest of the stallion, observing and weighing him up. He spoke and Santiel shuttered slightly, it was one thing to be considered as a sacrifice but another to be considered dinner! Warlock spoke up with the stallions question, a hint of irritation in his voice which made Santiel look up and that pair. To keep an eye on her, Santiel stared at Dareth then, catching the disappointment, he moved towards her snapping at her fluttering wings and she danced to the side out of his reach, she stared at Dareth and then to Warlock, despair written across her face. She dropped her gaze once again and simply stared at the floor, she didn't want to provoke Dareth nor Disnia by asking how she was meant to entertain them, no doubt she'd receive an answer she wished she'd never have been given, so she remained silent, waiting for whatever instruction came from her new tutor next.

Warlock eyed Santiel as her frame quivered under the scrutiny of the three kalona. "You have more mettle than that, little filly," he growled warningly. But that was the end of Warlock's threats... for the time being at least.
"I will show you to where you will be living." He turned again, stepping deliberately and picking his way past dead underbrush that snapped audibly under his heavy hooves.
Beyond the brush was a large stretch of thinner trees and somewhat marshy ground. Many of the trees were draped with hanging moss, at the base of a mountain. It was cooler than Santiel's home herd, but not terribly so. But it felt like the ground was constantly in the shadow of the towering peak. There was an old smell of acrid smoke lingering on the air, and a few dark patches on larger rocks. Worst of all, scatterings of bones - some placed with what seemed to be a deliberate touch - some of which were unmistakably equine.
"Make yourself at home." Warlock uttered with no small touch of irony. "Your studies begin tomorrow.
Disnia followed close on Santiel's hooves, making sure she kept in line, and when they arrived she trotted over to one rock which had a small collection of plants. She nosed it with a look of disdain, "Dinner." She said with a sneer of a carnivore that never touched the stuff. Some of the plants looked palatable - almost tasty. Others seemed to have been haphazardly chosen as plants that merely grew in the area. "Eat up," She smiled wickedly. "Make sure to make it all gone." She snickered and headed back after Warlock to a sheltered area of the territory.
Most of the plants were haphazadly picked, a few just wicked choices of thorny vines. But a few were very deliberately chosen - appetizing looking berries that would make Warlock's pronouncement about leaving the territory a difficult thing without his permission all the more potent. Especially over time.
Dareth remained behind, making no efforts to stifle a yawn, irritated at being placed on 'babysitter' duty. He would have much rather been out with his brother. But maybe this little filly had potential. Eventually.
