When he had first seen the flier, Alexei had not been sure what to think. Although Sumerki had chosen him almost as soon as he set foot in this country, he had not seen many other guardians wandering about and most people here seemed inclined to believe them myths. But he had seen so little of Sunderland. Perhaps there were more who knew the truth than he thought. At the very least, it could not hurt to look into the poster. Whoever had posted it might know something, and information was a valuable commodity.

So it came to be that the young foreigner found himself standing in front of The Swan. The district seemed a little...questionable, to be sure, but not everyone could afford opulence. He would not let the atmosphere discourage him. At least, that was what he thought before he actually set foot inside the establishment, Sumerki peeking over his shoulder.

Perhaps he was in the wrong place?

Oh no. This one is so young. At least she's come to expect that in the daytime Maeve's guests would be arriving for purposes other than business, but the girl in the foyer has to stifle a sigh when she sees this one, with his wide eyes and his obvious innocence. No one can detect innocence like a seasoned lady of the night, and she is.

Her initial suspicions are confirmed when, as she rises to greet him from the depths of her velvet chair, the deer's face appears over his shoulder.

She is petite and plump and as pleasing to look on as a bowl of apples and cream, and she smiles at him. The house is dimly lit with only small windows and a couple of guttering candles, but it is clean, if painfully overstuffed and frilled, with lace and fripperies crammed into every available corner in a shoddy imitation of opulence.

"Hello, dear. You're here about the flyer?" Couldn't the old bat have at least put her name on them?

Startled by the lady he had not noticed at first, Alexei could only stare for a prolonged few seconds. Then, Sumerki nudged his shoulder, disapproval clear in her mental sending. As a lady, she might not approve of the neighborhood, but as a guardian, she was most curious about this place. Besides, she would not have her chosen standing around like a simpleton.

"Oh," he said at last, suddenly grateful that she knew why he was here without asking. Somehow, he imagined it would have been most awkward to attempt to explain himself otherwise.

"Yes. I am here about that." He offered her an awkward smile that was somewhere between nervous and apologetic with perhaps a dash of obliviousness thrown in.

Now that he was here, he was not entirely sure where to begin. How did one start a conversation about these things? Then again, was this person even the one who had posted the flyer? One way to find out. "Did you post it?"
