The striped doe slowly picked her way through the swamp reeds, trying her best to avoid the wetter, muddier spots. She didn't feel like getting her feet very dirty today; she'd just spent all morning bathing in the cleanest stream she could find, and didn't want to ruin her shiny-clean fur! Ears folded back, she lowered her head to set the crudely-woven basket she carried around her neck down on the ground. This looked like a good enough spot! Gingerly, so as not to squish them, she picked berry after berry off of a nearby bush, dropping them into the basket. She'd been wanting to make new dyes lately, and these would certainly make a lovely color for her designs. She'd grown dreadfully bored of her white legs, and wanted to spice them up if only for a day. She'd other does around the swamp with intricate markings and patterns, and was a bit down about her simple pelt. Sure, her colors were pretty, but she didn't stand out the way others did.
No, a lady's place was in the background, not in the spotlight. her mate should be the one getting the attention; she was only to speak when spoken to. So she let out a small huff of breath, resuming her berry-picking. Perhaps she'd simply use them for snacks?

Grave wandered the swamp, exploring a little. He'd just finished his rounds of the tribe's territory and all was well, so he decided to expand his knowledge of the swamp. Even as young as he was, Grave knew that the tribe area wasn't the only thing in the swamp and even he was curious as to what lay beyond. With an eye on the sun, the young buck slowly made his way out from his home. Nothing seemed very exciting, but he kept going, hoping something would validate his curiousity soon. Surely if the swamp all looked like this, there was no reason for him to ever leave the tribe's territory... As soon as those words entered his mind, he spotted something blue moving around near some berry bushes. "Hello?" he called, wondering why anyone would be out this far picking berries.

She'd just been picking berries for quite some time, moving from bush to bush and noshing on a few here and there. There was nothing else she really needed to do with her day, so she moved slowly, casually, and didn't obsess about finding other bushes a bit farther off.
When she heard a soft voice from somewhere nearby, Moon Dream stood up and looked around. She barely caught sight of him, what with his murky brown and green pelt among the reeds and swamp water, but she caught the pink flash of his eyes as he watched her. She instinctively set her basket down and dipped her head in greeting, her own eyes falling closed. "Hello, Sir," she murmured, voice soft among the background noises of the swamp. She stood up fully again, pulling her feet closer together to appear proper. Sneaking a peek at him, Moon blinked, wondering if he would speak again or merely go about his business.

He watched her look for him, and realized that in the colors of the swamp, he blended in rather nicely. That was good for a guardian, he supposed, but all of a sudden it made him feel rather....plain. Not like the doe before him, she stood out from the swamp, more closely matching the berries she'd been picking.
He watched her dip her head and close her eyes and had a moment to think what a pity it was that she hid such bright eyes from him. It was strange, her entire being seemed to change when she realized he was there. It seemed like she thought he expected something specific from her and was trying to appear the way she thought she should. With a small sigh, Grave spoke again. "Please don't let me interrupt you," he said, "I was only curious what or who was rustling around in the bushes." He attempted a small smile, but wasn't sure how it came across since smiling was not something he usually did.

Moon Dream noticed the way he merely watched her for a moment, and casually took the opportunity to look him over now that she'd spotted him. His pelt, now that she looked at it more closely, wasn't exactly brown but it wasn't exactly gray, either. The green was very pale and bright, however, sort of like the glow of a glowworm. This thought made the corners of her mouth turn up; she rather liked look at the little worms.
"Oh no, you're not interrupting at all. It's just me out here, picking some berries," she smiled softly at him, her ears flicking as a gnat buzzed by. She noticed the slight awkwardness of his smile but didn't comment on it. Instead, she dipped her head to nudge the basket of berries closer to him. "Please, have some. I have plenty and they're very good."
